Trying to trace back to William Aitken and beyond. What we know is from relatives, without much backup documentation.
William was born in 1827 in Glasgow. He married Mary Tracy GREEN and had 10 kids before immigrating to Boston, MA in 1881. His wife and at least three of the youngest kids immigrated three months later. He was naturalized in 1887 while residing in Lowell, MA. His occupation was listed as weaver. He died ~1898. Mary Tracy (GREEN) AITKEN died 1923. He and his wife, and daughter Helen AITKEN are buried in Lowell, MA.
The children we know of are: Harriet, Mary Emma, Eli, James, Helen, and William. We are related to William.
William AITKEN, Jr? B. 1874 England M. 1900 Melissa Louise AYEN D. 1957 MA. He was a musician and band leader, playing baritone, trombone, piano and more. He met his wife while performing in Maine. Melissa Lousie (AYEN) AITKEN lived to be 103 years old. They had five daughters: Helen Elizabeth, Doris Viola, Mildred, Edna Norma, Marjorie AITKEN, and one son who was stillborn or died in infancy. William and Melissa Louise (AYEN) AITKEN are buried in Lowell, MA.
James AITKEN we are told moved to Philadelphia, married Sophia ?, had five sons and one daughter (who died by falling out of her high chair).
Eli AITKEN we are told, was also a musician, met his wife in Germany, his wife was from a wealthy family that didn't approve of their plans, so they sneaked out of Germany.
Any help/advice/info to allow us to go back in time to Glasgow (William Aitkens in Glasgow seem to be like John Smiths here), or to fill out more info in the more recent parts of this family tree will be appreciated.
