I am interested in connecting with anyone reseraching the Akam family from around Bradford, Yorkshire, England.
I have a tentative connection back to Philip Akam and Ann Wilson.
Philip Akam was born abt. 1724. He married Ann Wilson on 3 Jan 1748 in Bilton-in-Ainsty, Yorkshire, England. Ann was born abt. 1726.
Philip and Ann had at least two sons: Robert, b. abt Jun 1760 in Knaresborough and Major, b. abt Dec 1758 in Knaresborough.
Major Akam married Elizabeth Hargreaves on 25 Sep 1781 in Kildwick. Elizabeth was born abt 1760 in Kildwick. No information on her parents.
Major and Elizabeth had at least one son: John, b. 6 Jun 1782 in Kildwick, Yorkshire, England.
John married Hannah Kendall on 17 Apr 1803 in Otley, Yorkshire, England. John died 6 Apr 1827. Hannah died 11 Feb 1811. John and Hannah had at least one son: William Kendall Akam, b. 22 Oct 1804 in Otley, Yorkshire, England.
Hannah was the daughter of William Kendall, b. abt 1750. No informtion on her mother. William Kendall was the son of Nathanial Kendall, b. abt 1720. No information on his mother.
William Kendall Akam married Elizabeth Mitchell on 10 Aug 1829 in Calverley, Yorkshire, England. Elizabeth was born about 1805 in Calverley and died sometime between 1829 and 1831. They may have had a daughter named Hannah, b. abt 1830, but I am not certain on this.
William Kendall then married Elizabeth Bell on 19 Jun 1831 in Shipley, Yorkshire, England. William and Elizabeth had at least 8 children: Sarah, b. abt 1832, Bradford (m. Joseph Heaton Nov 1872); John, b. abt 1834, Bradford (m. Mary Anne Denbigh Feb 1860); Thomas, b. abt 1839 (m. Catherine Wilkinson May 1861); Major, b. abt May 1841 (m. Miranda Bentham); Ann Bell, b. Aug 1842, Bradford (m. Francis Townsley, Aug 1864); Martha, b. Nov 1844 (possibly unmarried); Mary, b. Nov 1850 (m. unknown); William, b. Nov 1853 (m. unknown).
Elizabeth Bell was b. abt Mar 1811 in Liversedge. She was the daughter of Thomas Bell (b. abt 1780, Liversedge) and Ann ___ (b. abt 1780).
Major and Miranda Bentham had 7 children: Herbert B, Ernest, William K, Clara, Florence, James Bentham, and Major Arnold.
Major Arnold married Margaret Fawcett in 1904. In 1910 they had a son, Walter. In 1913 they immigrated to Methuen, Massachusetts.
Walter was my grandfather.
Although I have sources for all of my links, some of them require additional research. If anyone else is researching this line, I would love to hear your information. I am looking to fill in some of the blanks, and also to hopefully go back beyond Philip and Ann.
