Ake in Yorkshire, England

As part of my research into my Sharman family history I have compiled the following paragraph:

"Jane (Sharman) was the first of George’s children with his second wife, Lettice. She was born at Edenham, and was christened there on 25th December 1872. Early in 1899 she married James Ake (Mar 1899 Pboro dist 3b 327), who had been born at Finghall (between Leyburn and Bedale) in Yorkshire and was about the same age as Jane. Jane returned to Yorkshire with James, and in 1901 they were farming at Foal Park Farm, Constable Burton – listed in the census as Foul Park Farm! By then they already had two sons – James H. Ake (aged 2; born Peterborough) and Norman D. Ake (aged 1; born Finghall)."

If anyone can add anything to this, I would be delighted to hear from them.

I'm looking on some information for the Ake side of my family, but have very little information. I know that they both lived in Bedford county, PA, and were wed about 1851. They had two children, Fannie and Franklin Pearce, who was my great-grandfather. Frank Ake married Rosina U. Dennis and Had two children, George Robertson and Virginia. Any help on who Samuel Ake's father was would be appreciated.

Don

It may be coincidence but my grandfather, Charles Ake, was from Kentucky. My mother, Flossie Ake, was from Lawrenceburg, IN. The family moved to Ohio after soem big flood. My grandmother was Augusta C. Ake nee Knipfer. She was born in 1986 so I assume Charles Ake was about the same age.

If you mean children of Charles Ake and Augusta Christina, yes. They had Henry (who died young of diabetes), Flossie (my mother), Louis and Eleanor. I have a death certificate for Augusta Christina. All have passed on but I have birth and death dates. Then Charles Ake married Alta (a widow from the flu epidemic of '18) who had some children. Charles and Alta had Fred, Ralph and Patty. Uncle Fred might help you more with his siblings and half siblings. He's done some family research. 1-937-233-2631. Let me know if I can help more. One of my daughters-in-law works for a detective agency and is pretty sharp about data bases.

I found a photocopy my uncle Fred Ake sent some years ago. I believe it was a family record his mother, Alta Marie Ake, had written out. It clarifies some dates and places of birth that may be helpful to you. My grandfather, Charles W. Ake, was born in Indiana Oct 9, 1883. He married Augusta Christina, born Mar 25, 1886 in Kentucky, on Jan 13, 1903. Their children were Charles Henry 1903, Clara 1905, Flossle C. (my mother), Eleanora R. 1910 all born in Lawrenceburg. IN. Then there was Lewis K. born in Dayton, Ohio in 1914. Charles W. Ake married Alta Marie Gebhart Nov 1, 1919. Her dob was Dec 26, 1894 in Ohio. she died Feb 8, 1974. Charles W. died Mar 31, 1955. Their children were Frederick K. dob Feb. 18, 1924, Ralph W. dob Dec 23, 1928 and Patricia Ann dob Jun 23, 1935. The last three born in Ohio.

Basil Poulos
canchor@pacbell.net

My grandfather was Charles W. Ake from Indiana. DOB 10/9/1883. Married Augusta C. Knipfer 1/13/1903. He died 3/31/1955. Augusta C. Ake died 4/21/1918. Charles W. Ake married Alta Marie Gebhart 11/1/1919. She died 2/8/1974. Augusta had five children. None are alive. Alta had three children with Charles W; Fred, Ralph and Patricia. Fred and Ralph are still alive (last I heard). My mother, Flossie C. Ake, passed away 11/13/97.

My uncle Fred Ake wrote me some time ago that three Ake brothers, Charles, William and James immigrated from England. That Charles was my great grandfather. Fred is my mother's half brother and still lives in Dayton, Ohio area. He has done some work on geneology.

Hope this helps.
Deb,
Thank you. We may have found a common ancestor. I had not heard much of my grandfather, Charles Ake, from my mother. What may be helpful to establish a link augmenting dates and places would be a comparison of pictures. I have a picture or two of my grandfather in his later years. I'll see if I can scan one and send it electronically I do recall he had very dark hair that didn't turn gray as he aged. Odd? Also, there's a history of diabetes on that Ake line. It could be a genetic thing. Does that ring a bell?
Basil Poulos

My G Aunt Nancy E Brown, married Seaborn I Ake in Sabine Parish LA 1 March 1874. I find her in the 1880 census of Williamson Co.shows her with A.J. Ake. with 7 children. Some of the children must have been his before they were married. The only child I know she had was Leatrice Emma, born 14 Oct 1896. I have been unable to find Nancy or Seaborn ,or Leatrice in the 1900 census. In the 1910 census Nancy is living with James Lane in Shelby Co. She died and is buried in the Tennessee cemetery in Shelby Co. TX. Any help on this family would be appreciated. Frances Yates King

I am desended from Samuel Quincy Ake son of Elijah Ake. I do not have a last name for Elijah's wife either.

Samuel married Sarah Jane Smith in Laporte Co, IN. They had a son named Walter Clem Ake who was my great grandfather.

I have data from family members that says that Elijah's father was Francis Ake bn 1777 Frederick Co., MD and died 1847 in Waynesburg, OH. He was married to Susanna Mobley. They had a number of children, but I only have Elijah's name. This information came from Ken Wray, a great uncle who has done a lot of research but isn't so good recording his research.
