Update on my research of my Aker/Akers/Hale line.

Update on my research of my Aker/Akers/Hale line.

A before unknown cousin was located who is the great granddaughter of Henry Hale a brother to John Hale, my great grandfather. She stated that her mother (Mary Quinn) always told her and her brother they were not really Hale. They were AKERS. Her mother told them an Aker was adopted either by Henry Hale or his father John Hale, my great great grandfather.

Any one know of an Akers that was taken in or adopted by a Hale family in KY, TN, or VA?

Thanks for any help.

John Hale

Aker adopted by Hale family or changed name to Hale?

My name is John Hale, I believe that my gg grandfather (John Hale; born 1800-1820 in one of these VA counties: Grayson, Washington, or Wythe) was an Aker by birth. I believe he was either adopted by a Hale family and took the Hale name or he was indentured as a laborer or servant and changed his name to Hale.

The reason I believe this is after over 10 years of research and finding only the 1850 Perry County, KY census and the 1860 Magoffin County, KY census with him and his wife Sarah "Sally" Fawbush and their children, and no mention in any records of his Hale father, I took a yDNA test at Family Tree DNA.

I only matched one Hale, a known cousin at the Hale DNA Project at Family Tree DNA (who, by the way is related to my gg grandfather, through a brother to my g grandfather, John's sons). Family Tree DNA notified me of another match, an to a Aker. Looking at the DNA match, I found I matched my cousin and this Aker with o genetic distance on the 12 and 25 Marker test, 2 genetic distance for Aker and 3 genetic distance for my cousin at the 37 Marker Test, and finally 3 genetic distance to Aker at the 67 Marker test.

With this DNA evidence I think it is more than possible that my gg grandfather was an Aker, not a Hale. Does anyone know of any Aker in VA that was adopted by a Hale family or changed their name to Hale? Thanks for any help.

John Hale

Need help discovering links between my surname (Hale) and the surname Aker.

I have taken a DNA test at Family Tree DNA and it has no matches with any Hale in their database, but it found an exact match with the surname Aker. I can find no Aker in my family tree and can’t explain how my male yDNA would match a male yDNA in another surname.

My Hale line starts in one of these three VA counties: Grayson, Washington, or Wythe where my gg grandfather was born (John Hale) about 1800-1820. He is known to have moved to Magoffin county, KY by way of Perry County, KY, and before that somewhere in TN.

Thanks for any help.

John
I have a question regarding Martin's middle name. My father was Martin Joseph Aker III, his father was Martin Joseph Aker II, his father was Preston T. Aker, his father was Martin J Aker, whose father was John Aker.

Through my search I have often found Martin's middle name listed as either Joseph or Jacob. I grew up understanding that the name was Joseph.

Does anyone know anything about the name discrepancy? Or where I might find any official paperwork with the middle name listed?

I do not know if she had any children before 1928, son's name was James Beverly Heiss. Does any of this look/sound familiar?
My gr.gr.gr. grandfather was Nathan K. Acre/Acree (also spelled Aker in the 1830's). I know that he was a tin-smith and claimed to be born in VA around 1808(census records). I believe his father to be John Aker who settled in Pulaski County, KY. However, I have no proof. If anyone has ANY info on Nathan, it would be so greatly appreciated. I hit this wall 2 years ago and have yet to be able to get over it. I'm hoping that someone out there can help. Like I said, I know that Nathan was born in VA around 1808 and removed to Pulaski County, KY around 1830, married Frances J. Ridge in Pulaski, removed to Adair County, KY in the late 1830's and settled in Green County, KY in the 1840's. However, I have yet to find a connection to his parents or what became of him. Thanks!!

My ggrandmother was born out of wedlock to John William Aker and Zona Cairns in the Abilene, KS area in 1902. Her name was Marie and later moved to Council Bluffs, IA when her mother married John Bender. Nobody ever knew the circumstances about why her parents didn't marry. John Aker was born abt. 1880 in York Co., Pa to Jacob W. and Elizabeth E. Aker. In the 1880 census they lived in West Manchester with children Ellen, Ida, Joseph Addison, "Jesse" Josiah, and John William. What happened to the parents ? Why did they move to Kansas without their parents ? Later in Dickinson Co.,KS John marries Florence Kimmel, Ida marries Grant Foster, Ellen (Ella) marries Samuel Bennison, Jesse marries Mollie Bender, and Joseph marries Anna Sotung. Any connections ? rashelbraun@aol.com

Re: Thomas Winton Aker

I am trying to find information on Thomas Winton Aker of Wythe Co., VA. He was born October, 1852 and married Elizabeth McMillan. On his 1900 SS application he listed his name as Winton Thomas Akers, so I'm not exactly sure in which order his name actually went. I seem to have hit a brick wall in being able to find his parents, and I've been searching for several years. I would be grateful for any information on him and his family. Thank you.
