ALAMADO, Mariana 1898 Salem, Oregon

I found the name of Mariana ALAMADO on a list of names circulated by Oregon State Hospital patient memorial workgroup.

From the late 1800s to the 1970s the bodies of patients that were not claimd by family after their deaths at the mental hospital were burned and put into copper canisters/urns and then labeled and put on a shelf in an abandoned part of the hospital. The Oregon State Hospital, a mental facility, has been in Salem for about 123 years. If anyone thinks that their relative may be on the list of people that have gone unclaimed, please contact me at LiMaSum@aol.com and I'll look on the list. Or the list may still be available in pdf format online. You'll have to have adobe acrobat to read it.

This is the available info on the above mentioned:
Last name: Alamado
First name: Mariana
medical records: 6-22-1898 age 45

evidently they were living at the mental hospital in Salem, Oregon in 1898. And again, if he/she is your relation, he/she may still be available to be claimed by his/her family. There are thousands of urns waiting for their families.

Alameda family in Niles

I am looking for my husband's side of the family. His grandparents lived along Mission Blvd between Hayward, CA and Niles, which is now the Fremont area.

The family story goes that there were 15 brothers and sisters. My husband can only remember a few names from when he was little. His father's name was Anthony. Anthony would have been born in the early 1900's and he married a woman named Margaret Ruiz. He had a brother named Bill (william) who married a woman named Ida ad they lived outside of Niles. A different brother who worked in the slaughterhouse in or near Los Olivas. A sister named Polly who married into the Silva family and he worked at the Morton salt plant in Newark. A sister, Mary, who married into the madera family. A sister Agnus who married into the Lewis family. The Lewis's had an airconditioning and sheet metal business in Niles (now Fremont).

If any of this is familiar to you. Please contact me. I would love to learn more!

Jackie & Marty Alameda

Alameda name Santa Cruz, Portugal, Canada

Am grandaughter of John Alameda (Almada oringial spelling in Portugal) came to the
United States in the early 1900's from
Santa Cruz, Maderia Isl. Portugal. He was
born in 1888 father Manuel Almada mother
Francis Freitas Almada, 1 brother Manuel
who stayed and lived a full life in Portugal
where they grew up. My grandfather married
Maria Nunes in 1927, in the Santa Clara
Valley where he worked ranches etc. His
brother Manuel was in sugar cane in Santa
Cruz Portugal he had 2 sons and a daughter,
possibly a 2nd daughter. The one son
Manuel was killed on the main land in Portugal. The sister was married to a car
salewman in Funchal Portugal. The other
brother I do not know his name migrated to
Canada sometime after 1975 as my grandparents
went back in 1975 the first time my grandfather had seen his brother in about
60 years, a whole lifetime. They neither
one of them thought the other was alive.
My grandfather died the year after. Would
like to find cousins, one in Canada and
2 more in Funchal Portugal.
Have alot of cousins and uncles and aunts
located in the Santa Clara Valley.

Hi,
I'm aware of how far back our last name goes. And where it originates. As far as i know it means poplar tree in portuguese. And it also originates from Portugal. It seems to me its a derivative of another name (Almeida). This is what i'm still tryin to find out if it's true. Oh, and we also have a family crest which is cool.
I want to find family i want to go and see where and who are my cousins and uncles and such. Where in NY do u live? my grandfather lived in Brooklyn, and my father lives in Pa., I live in NJ. Maybe we are directly related can yu ask if your dad would know of a cousin or an uncle whoes name is also Pedrito or Pedro Antonio Alameda, and get back to me i would greatly appreciate it. I do hope to chat with you again soon. Ciao. Pedro

Hi,
I'm aware of how far back our last name goes.
Ciao. Pedro

Hi I am Tina Alameda, born in Bklyn NY to Efren Juan Alameda. My grandfather was Tomas Alameda and was born in Yauco, Puerto Rico. Tomas Alameda died in Bklyn in 1986. And I believe he had a sister which died a few years later. Tomas Alameda married Angelica Ortiz, but I am not sure where her family was from in Puerto Rico, but had deep taino roots. They are both buried in Bklyn NY. There are several siblings of Tomas Alameda; Tomas Alameda Jr., he lives upstate NY, Hector Luis Alameda, lives in Manhattan, Lydia Alameda in Bronx, Eliezer Alameda died in about 10 years ago in the city and of course as I mentioned Efren my dad. As far as the roots of our last name...last I heard from another uncle, it's roots actually come from the Moors who invaded Spain. True that Portugues is another posibility, but if so the got it from the Moors (Arabs). This is all the information I have. This is for the Puerto Rican side of the Alameda's. Apparently there is a lot of Mexican's with this surname in California. I am almost certain that the Alameda's in Puerto Rico may all have a common root.

Until next time.......Tina
