I was at the reunion, and we may have met; there were so many people that I don't remember every one. I'm Daniel (Danny) Alaniz and I am Andres' grandson. I remember meeting Tia Paula once when I was young at my grandfather's house. I live in McAllen, Texas in the Valley.

My father Ramon Alaniz, Sr was a World War II hero and was in the Signal Corp attached to the 101st Airborne Division during the invasion of Normandy France June 1943.

My great grand parents originally were from Monterrey, Mexico
but my dad was born in Matamoros, Tamalipas but came over to Brownsville, Texas when he was 1 year old. By joining the Army during World War II my dad was granted US Citizenship.

Other than this I have no knowledge of a family crest or Spanish origins. I have always been fascinated by our surname because it is not a common name such as Martinez or Hernandez.

Good luck with your search..Ramon Alaniz, Reno, Nevada.

according to history that was the first alaniz to set foot on texas and his son or grandson (I forgot) was given a land grant that was 4,000,000 acres which is now the alaniz ranch by the way thats 4 times the size of the king ranch but with time it was split among family members and thats why its not in the records.thats where the first longhorn was made and the thing people know as cowboys from the past would not exist if we didnt come. some facts we should know.

Steve, this is your Niece Priscilla Cookies daughter. I am so pleased to have found this post. I have been trying to complete our family tree with little or no information to go by. From your posting alone I was able to retain good information to start from. I would love to hear stories about our family and hear how you are doing. I know nothing about our Native American background and would love to discover our roots. My mom and I are taking grandma (Rita Cadriel) back to Arizonia and Texas to visit. I thought it would be nice to know a little history before our trip. Please sent me a message with contact info and I will do the same so we can catch up!

Felipe Garcia

Hi Alma,
I am a descendant of Felipe Garcia and Eusebia Gonzales via their son Juan Jose Garcia & Maria Faustina Nunez (m 11 Feb 1771). I have also done some research on the other chidren: Maria Catarina (m Santiago Solis 27 Apr 1769), Maria Josefa (m Jose Antonio Gaivan 30 Aug 1767), & Leonarda(m Jose Ignacio Toscano 3 Mar 1783), although not quite as exrensive, and have church records to verify my research.
I see you list Joseph de Jesus Garcia and Maria Josepha Longoria as the parents of Felipe. This is not true. Joseph and Josepha did indeed have a son Felipe, but it is not the same Felipe who married Eusebia Gonzales. Joseph and Josepha married 11 Feb 1779 in Mier Jusrisdiction, their son Felipe was born 6 Oct 1783 in Cer Jurisduction and died 13 Jan 1784 also in Cer Jur. This information is documented in church records.
Felipe Garcia who married Eusebia Gonzales was born ca 1725, more than 50 years before Joseph and Josepha were married. Even the children of Felipe and Eusebia were married before Joseph & Josepha.
Respectfully, Hiram Garcia
Your father was my uncle. Your grandfather Belisario Alaniz died in 1954 and your grandmother Josefina Alaniz died in Oct. 1994 at 94 yrs old. I know that your father has other kids but I don't know them. The ones I know are Alejandro, Ida, and Alma from his first marriage. I have not seen them for years. I am in the military and stationed in South Bend, IN. My email address is mario.rocha@us.army.mil. As far as I know we are related.
