I am also interested in Heman Chapman, born in CT in 1765. I believe I have traced him to Washington County, Ohio. The idea that he spent time in Rutland County Vermont makes sense because of other family connections I've traced back to the same time period. I believe there is a DAR - marked grave in Ohio with his name. Please contact me, Howard, if you have any more info.

Ana

You are asking for a Otis Chillson born Dec. 1797-maybe he could be a brother to my Abigail Chillson Albee-I will look through what I have and see if I can come up with anything on her family and get back to you. I have just recently been searching for the Albee family after I found info written down about them in my grandma's book and when I was in NY last month(Addison,NY Steuben county) I located a lot of family graves and took photos-although the day we went-it was pouring rain and really miserable! So, if we can help each other-would surely love to hear from you! Judy in PA.

I tie into this Albee family line, way back in 1672, My line continues from Benjamin 1672 and wife Abiel (Wheelock) Albee, down to my mother. Do you already have the linage back from Eliba Albee, and wife Abigail Chillson? If not I can help in that regard. I have not researched the 11 children of Eliba. Howard Boswell

Deb:

I found this on the message boards, and jotted it down , I have not researched it, it was submitted by one Judith K. Arthur, her e-mail address at that time, was jkarthur@aol.com . It is odd she did not use the name Wheelock, however I have seen other marriages that the lady has reverted to her maiden name for a second marriage. That could have been because of a divorce, and not a death of the husband as in this case. Howard Boswell

Thanks for your quick reply. May I ask what source you have for the marriage of Beulah to Wheelock? In her marriage record to Israel Sabin, it gives her surname as Albee. If she was married previously, I wonder why it doesn't give the name of Wheelock.

I'm following Israel and Beulah's daughter Elizabeth, who married Robert Swan.

Many thanks.

Deb:

This is what I have on Bulah/Beulah Albee : Born 15 Sep 1749 Uxbridge Massachusetts, the record reads, mother Bethia Woodward, father Eleazer Albee. This Eleazer is my ancestor, he married Nov 8 1743 Mercy Shippee, he evidently not playing by the rules!
Beulah married #1 abt 1767 Daniel Wheelock (Dec 13 1744- 1768) he died shortly after the birth of a son Daniel (1768-1842). She married #2 Sep 27 1770 at Uxbridge to Israel Saben/Sabin and removed to New Hampshire. I don't have any of the Sabin children. Howard Boswell

Douglas:

Some time ago a query on Genforum Albee Message Board, from a grandson of Edna Allbee Stepanek, called the father of Henry L. Allbee, Everett M. Allbee. From this I find the following , on Ancestry.com Family Trees, and messages on Genforum. I have a long Albee Lineage, however your line does not connect with mine until in the 1600s in Massachusetts. I assume you have the census records for Henry in 1920 and 1930, and his 1917/18 Draft Card information.

Howard Allbee, b Dec 10 1825 Collins , Erie Co. NY, d May 20 1897 Waterloo Twp, Grant Co. WI. He married Emily J. Wilson, d/o Thomas and Catherine (Saltzman) Wilson, Jan 5 1852 Potosi Twp, Grant Co. Emily b May 28 1839 Washington Co. Ind. and d Jan 19 1899 Waterloo Twp. They had 2 children, Everett Milton Allbee b Jan 14 1858 & Emma Delilah Allbee b Sep 26 1862. ( this should be the father of Henry Lawrence Allbee)

Howard was the s/o Jehiel Allbee b abt 1792 Rockingham, Windham Co. VT., d Boice Creek, Grant Co. WI, married Irene Parmer who d Aug 26 1877.

Jehiel was the son of Benjamin Albee b 1771 Townsend MA, d Dec 29 1858 Concord NY, War of 1812 Soldier, married Abigail Thompson b 1770 New Hampshire May 30 1791 Rockingham VT. 8 children ( He married #2 in 1816 at Collins NY, Martha Thompson Shout and had 6 more children.

Benjamin son of Ebenezer Albee b Jun 9 1743 Townsend MA, married Rachel Avery b Jul 15 1749 Watertown MA, on Dec 8 1763 Townsend.

Ebenezer son of John Albee of Barnstable MA and Abigail Seatrle, married Apr 25 1732 Groton MA.

John son of another John b abt 1671-75 Mendon Massachusetts. From there back to the Immigrant Benjamin Albee/Alby is a bit fuzzy and not everyone agrees . This will give you something to work on anyway. Howard Boswell

Police looking to return Albee headstone - Mendon, Ma

On Friday April 21, 2006 the Milford Daily News ran an article about a headstone found in the Milford, Ma police station.

http://www.milforddailynews.com/localRegional/view.bg?articl...

The limestone block reads, "Enos T. Albee 1814 -- 1887" and "his wife Deborah H. Nichols 1818 -- 1873."

It has been at Milford Police Headquarters for at least 16 years, he said, though no one seems to know how it arrived.

I performed a fast search and found that Enos was a life long resident of Mendon, Ma. I myself am not related to the Albee line but know that someone who reads this would be able to provide a cemetery location.

The reporter for the Miford News is Sara Withee, and she can be reached at 508-634-7546 or swithee@cnc.com.

Steve
is Albee a Scottish or English name?

I have read several threads in here that all the Albee's in the us trace back to Benjamin Albee who is from England. I know this may sound cheesy but every surname database I have typed the Albee into says Albee is of Scottish Origin and is from the original name of MacAlpine I am trying to figure out if there may be any truth to that or if it is just a crock.

Thanks for the info....I finally found the same info you supplied...I'm new to this so I am finding my way...very time consuming...The trail for Edward Sr. ends in Kankakee, IL...His son...Ed C. had a son Edward too...I have found where they are buried...

I'm trying to get a fix on James Albee...he is my great great grandfather...He was married to Lucretia and she committed suicide in Mason City, Iowa in 1906...I have a newspaper article on her and death cert. She is buried in Thorton, IA.

In 1917 James son , David Albee killed himself in Chatsworth, IL...The death cert was signed by James showing James living in Muskegon, MI...his trail ends there...no sign of him after that...

Illinois on line death records do not cover the time period for Edward Sr. possible death...the same with Michigan...I'm thinking that I will have to make a trip to IL and MI and do some manual research in the the local court houses to see what I can find.

My big problem is that when David Albee killed himself my grandfather... Harold Albee was only 6 years old...he never talked about his Dad...All of my grandfather's is now gone.

Thanks again for the help...Brad Albee

ALBEE, John, Ichabod - Cheshire County, New Hampshire

Homestead in One Family since 1787

Westmoreland Boy Lives on Farm Where Great-Great-Great-Grandfather Lived and Died.

Special in The Reformer

Keene, N.H. March 5 (about 1920)

Glenn C. Wellington, 9, of Westmoreland has a distinction which probably no other boy in New England shares, living on the place where his great-great-great-grandfather lived and died. Not only this, but his father, grandmother, great-grandfather, John Albee, and his great-great-grandfather, Ichabod Albee, also lived on the place. All are buried in Westmoreland.

The Albee homestead was settled in 1787 and since that time has always been in the family. The old stone furnace built when the first Albee homestead was erected, a log cabin, is still standing. The only window in the cabin had four lights of glass, measuring five by seven inches, in front of a shoemaker’s bench in the olden days.

There is still standing on the place a small building which was used before 1800 for a schoolhouse. The attic of the building was used by the teacher to hide the children when she heard the Indians coming and the trapdoor and ladder used to get to the loft and always in readiness to escape the redskins is still preserved.

The land on which these old buildings stand is now owned by Mrs. Mary I. Cole, a descendant of the Albee family, and Dr. George Albee of Worcester, Mass.

Ill in 1870 with only child Albert living with him and wife, The son Edward C. was living in Livingston County IL. Forrest Twp, ae 26 born in Maine. I was unable to locate James who would have been only 16, but possibly out on his own by then. With Edward living where James married, it might be why James was there. Sorry I could not find more this morning, but will keep checking. Howard Boswell

Re: locating info on James Albee

Brad:

I haven't had any luck either, after what I sent, finding James in Michigan, of course he could have been somewhere else and if alone might not have been rooted out by the census takers. 1920 is bad for finding people I find. Not sure why so many were missed, but they were. I noticed your message on Genforum this morning. I have a suggestion which might help. On Genforum , Mr. Dubay has answered many queries there. His ancestry are the Albee family that were in Maine, and he has the Albee Genealogy by Robert Albee. My Albee line was from Vermont, and I don't have the Albee Book. Click on his name , and get his e-mail address, write him and ask if he will look up Edward and family. It might be all there, or not, but will be worth the effort.
Another thing , might be to check with the local libraries in those areas, and see about the Genealogy societies in the area, they are ususally very helpful, and have volunteers often who will look up cemeteries records, etc, I will keep checking and see if by chance I can come up with anything else. Let me know of your progress.

Howard Boswell

Caleb Albee (1766-1856), Milford MA

I'm trying to track down the parentage of Caleb Albee (10 March 1766 - 1 August 1856), who married Mercy/Marcy Twitchell 28 August 1791.

Adin Ballou's 1882 'History of Andover NH' suggests that he might be the son of Samuel Albee (along with another possible son, Admiral). (Also, I'm interested in assessments of the reliability of Ballou's 'History.')

Has anyone information on this line? I have information to share about the descendents of this marriage:
Caleb Albee m. Mercy Twitchell 1791
daughter Lucretia Albee m. Richard Currier 1818
daughter Mary Ann Currier m. Abel Bacon 1837
daughter Mary Jane Josephine Bacon m. John Crowley bef 1857
daughter Harriet Crowley m John Raymond c1877
son John Raymond m. Rose Walker c1913
daughter Mary Raymond m. Warren T. Anderson 1937

Thank you!
Peter
