I believe that Mtichell Sanders and Susannah Springfrog were my gggg grandparents. I'm having a problem tracing the family back.

My greatgrandmother was Mae Sanders. If the information I have is correct my lineage can be traced backed to Mitchell and Susannah as follows:
Mae's (b. 1891 in Nebraska) parents were Charles F. Sanders & Ruth Holbrook
Charles F's (b. 1863 in Nebraska) parents were Charles Sanders & Elizabeth Daniels
Charles (b. abt. 1820 in Tennessee) parents were John Sanders & Dorcas Smith
John's (b. about 1780 in Tennessee) parents were Mitchell Sanders & Susannah Springfrog

Any information or assistance you would be willing to give me to find out more about my family would be GREATLY apprecited! Thanks for your time!

Mary Beatrice Alberty was a cousin to my Grand-father Perry Alberty Gaylor. Mary Beatrice Alberty lived with my great-grandmother until her until my great-grandmother died. Beatrice Alberty then went to live with the Ragsdale Family, which was related on the Alberty side by marriage. I have a little stuff on the McCoys and a lot on the Albertys. Cherokee Heritage Group to Close

MSN will close the Cherokee Heritage Group in Feb. 2009. The Chickamauga message board has an extensive Cherokee Alberty family history published by Windwalker that Alberty
researchers might want to save in case it vanishes in Feb. 2009.

Hopefully you can help me. I noticed the name Douthits and believe that my 5x greatgrandfather, Martin DeWitt of Virginia married an Ellen Douthit/Douthal once he moved to the Darlington District of South Carolina in the mid 1700's (1755/55). I would love to be able to find the Douthits in South Carolina and be able to tie Ellen in with the DeWitts. The Darlington District is just south of the border between North/South Carolina. Can someone help me?

This woman was my great-grandmother. I am one of the great-grandsons mentioned.

The author was my grandmother, Theil Conner Hamm.

The two of them are buried together, with my grandfather, Charles Wesley Hamm, here in Ardmore, OK.

Grandmama was a Cherokee. Her husband, Woody Conner, was an Osage, the son of the famous Billy Conner.

She fell victim to senility (Alzheimers??) in the 1960s. I remember her as an Indian woman in her rocking chair, revisiting times from the past that only she could see.

Till their deaths, both women wore their brown (not gray) hair down to their ankles, brushing it out twice a day and braiding it into a bun on the back of their heads.

A note on the spelling of CONNER, CONNOR.

You'll note that my grandmother, Theil, spelled her mother's name and her brothers name as Conner. She spelled her father's name CONNOR.

We, the family, think she did this purposely.

In the 1930s, Woody ran off to California with another woman, deserting his wife and children. We suspect my grandmother changed the spelling of her name out of anger towards her father. Despite his desertion, when Woody died, my great-grandmother got on a train to San Diego, CA and brought his body back to Oklahoma for burial. I guess the last line of the biography explains why she did that.

Catherine HOOD married Johnson ALBERTY abt. 1820, GA > I.T.

I am looking for the name of Catherine Hood's father, Catherine was born between 1790 and 1810, around Standing Rock Ga.. She married Johnson Alberty sometime in the 1820's. Lived in the Going Snake Dist. I. T. as late as the 1890 Census. She is my wifes Half 2nd Great Grand Aunt.

John H. ALBERTY's headstone is propped up against a tree in the Alberty Cemetery, Mayes County, Oklahoma. This cemetery is in a rural area between the towns of Pryor Creek and Chouteau. A photo is attached to this post.

J.U. ALBERTY was born March 20, 1857 and died October 27, 1906, according to his gravestone. (see attached photo)

He is buried in the Alberty Cemetery on a bluff overlooking the Pryor Creek, near the present-day community of Sportsmen Acres, Mayes County, Oklahoma. At his burial, this populated area was known as Cherokee Nation, I.T. (as Oklahoma was not yet a state).

As our many of the tombstones here, Mr. ALBERTY's marker lays on the earth and is quite weatherbeaten. Do you know more about him? (I am only assuming he was male--not female.)

There are three Alberty cemeteries in northeast Oklahoma: one in nearby Adair County and the other in nearby Rogers County.

The inscription reads: Born Jan. 21, 1826 - departed this life Mar. 21, 1872 - Aged 46 yrs. 2 mo. I cannot read the other writing--except for the word "clint" or "clinton."

This broken tombstone lays on the ground in the Alberty Cemetery in Mayes County, Oklahoma, near many other ALBERTYs.

Anna Charlotte ALBERTY was born Sept. 30, 1854 and her death date is April 5, 1926. She is buried in a rural cemetery on a bluff overlooking Pryor Creek outside of Sportsmen Acres, Mayes Co., Oklahoma: the Alberty Cemetery.

Photos of her two grave markers are attached. One tombstone appears to be the original. There are many other ALBERTYs in this cemetery.

Ellis Cornelious ALBERTY's tombstone photo is attached to this post. His marker is in Claremore, Rogers Co., Oklahoma in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

Judge ALBERTY was born in Fort Gibson, Indian Territory on July 22, 1860. His Cherokee name was: "'Cor-Nel-Sea." He graduated Dartmouth College in 1885. He served as a judge and as a superintendent of schools. His Dawes Roll No. is 7004, with Census Card No. 2757.

On Rootsweb's Native American database from the National Archives in Fort Worth, Texas, I found Shells by the names you gave. Perhaps these Shells and Sallie Alberty from the Cherokee Tribe are your ancestors?

I am stuck on a Frederick Alberty in my tree. He married a Polly Rider and they had at least one son, John G. Alberty, born 1808 in New York. That's all the info I have and have been looking for some time.
