John Meyer, your info on Sebastian Albitre is in error.I recognize it as the work of one Jo Fischer because Sebastian Felipe Albitre was born at Villa de Sinaloa, Nueva Espana, and not Mother Spain. When you wrote Albitreano, I recognize it as my research and its not Albitreano, but Albitrerro and because of this I know you leaned on Jo Fischer's info who makes many mistakes in her spellings and her "fictional additions" to my research of 1972. Jo received it from a relative and began adding fiction to the stories ever since and posting them to our embarrassment. Do not pay attention to her work of fiction. Can you imagine her claiming that the story of Zorro is based on the life of Sebastian Albitre. Keep searching and you will find more fiction. She is not related to the family at all but knew an uncle and she claimed he told her stories which is in fact a lie since he knew nothing except what research he copied from one of my aunts. Anyway, thought I'd inform you of her errors. Ask her for her sources, I promise you will get "no comment" on this. My own info is true, her additions are fictions. She claims Sebastian had a rich Indian relatives with the same name, who could read and write and make maps. The Indians from Baja California were the poorest of the poor ansd much less could they read or write. They were a primitive people. That one Sebastian Albitre rode with the Portola Expedition and another (Indian, the rich Sebastian albitre) came to California with the Anza expedition. By the way, Jacinto, the first born was not born in Alta California, Mexico, Prov of New Spain - Jacinto was born at Loreto, Baja California and he was not married to Francisca Baltez but to Lugarda Moreno, as I recall. Need I say more. ANYWAY, DON'T PAY ANY ATTENTION TO HER BLOGS. John

I grew up near the San Gabrial Mission right next to the Rio Hondo River. My grandfather descends from Juan Baptista De Anza. My step father descends from Filipe Sabastian Albitre.

I was quite surprised to see the awful things written about De Anza here and would like to clear up some things written about him. He in fact was married. Anyone can look up the records about this marriage on the Mission 2000 data base.
Juan and his brother were married to sisters.
Juan Baptista died suddenly in Mexico. I suspect that he was wounded by a poison arrow causing death in several days from the Pima's, but have no way of proving this.
The trail blazing by Anza to Alta California had been a dream of his father Juan Baptista De Ansa who died when Juan was quite young. It should be remembered that Juan payed for the trip from his own money. Everything that I have read about Anza points to an honorable man.
Filipe Sabastian Albitre from what I have read sounds like a very colorful person who got himself into trouble often.

Here is my step fathers family line,
Sabastian soldier of Portela and Anza Albitre Other spellings ALVTRE and and Albitreanno
Birth 1722 in Spain
Death 1790 in Alta California, Mexico, Province of, Spain
married to,
Unknown De Los Angeles
their son,
Filipe Sabastian father of LOS ANGELES Albitre
Birth 1758 in Baja California, Mexico, Province of, Spain
Death 1817 in near San Gabriel Mission, Mexico, Province of, Spain
with,
Maria Refina Hernandez
Birth 1778 in Loreto, Baja, California, USA
Death 1823
their son,
Jacinto Maria Albitre
Birth 1780 in Alta California, Mexico, Prov of New, Spain
Death 1850 in Alta, Placer, California, USA
married,
Francisca Baltez
Birth 1822
Death 16 Oct 1919 in Los Angeles Co, , CA, USA
their son,
Tomas de Las Incentes Albitre
Birth 25 Dec 1829 in Los Angeles Pueblo, District of San Gabriel Mission, Alta Callifornia, Mexico
Death 1 Jul 1910 in El Monte, Los Angeles Co, California, USA
married
Maria Francisco Seles Verdugo
Birth Feb 1840 in San Gabriel Mission, Alta Califonia, Mexico
Death 1884 in Los Angeles Co, , California, USA
daughter,
Esperanza Albitre
Birth Feb 1863 in San Gabriel, Los Angeles, California, United States
Death 12 Jun 1929 in San Gabriel, Los Angeles, California, United States
married,
Domingo Batz
Birth 16 Aug 1857 in San Gabriel, Los Angeles, California, United States
Death 5 Jul 1909 in San Gabriel, Los Angeles, California, United States
daughter
Josephine Batz
Birth 9 Apr 1890 in San Gabriel, Los Angeles, California, United States
Death 2 Apr 1978 in Rose Hills Cemetery
married
Nicolas Escujuri
Birth 10 Sep 1883 in jaurrietta, Spain
Death 12 Jun 1968 in Rose Hills Cemetery
there son,
Both died while living on Puente Ave. Baldwin Park, Los Angeles California
Joseph Nicholas Escujuri
Birth 3 Jul 1921 in California, United States
Death 20 Sep 1991 in Homedale, Owyhee, Idaho, United States
My step father

Here is my De Anza family line,

Martin de Anza
married
Agustina de Alzega
their son
Juanes de Anza
Birth 16 Oct 1629 in Hernani, Gipuzkua, Spain
Death 6 Mar 1685 in Hernani, Guipuzcoa, Pais Vasco, S
married
Elena Elena de Bula
Birth 1631 in Usurbil, Guipuzcoa, Pais Vasco, Spain
Death 28 Dec 1716 in Hernani, Guipuzcoa, Pais Vasco, Spain
their son,
Antonio de Anza
Birth 17 Jan 1666 in Hernani, Guipuzcoa, Pais Vasco, Spain
Death 17 June 1737 in Hernani, Guipuzcoa, Pais Vasco,Spain
married,
Lucia De Sassoeta
Birth 14 Aug 1658 in Hernani, Guipuzcoa, Spain
Death 28, Nov 1735 in Hernani, Guipuzcoa, Spain
son
Juan Bautista De Anza
Birth 29 Jun 1693 in Hernani, Guipuzcoa, Pais Vasco, Spain
Death 9 May 1740 in Fronteras, Mexico
married,
Maria Rosa Bezerra Nietto
Birth Sep 1700 in Janos, Chihuahua, Mexico
Death 14 Oct 1760 in Tubac, Santa Cruz, Arizona, USA
their 2 sons are
1.
Dear Mary and to the descendants of Manuel Antonio Perez and Florentina Albitre. I'm always happy to exchange info if you wish. I even have an ancient photo of two young sisters that appear like they are of Indian descent in Spanish dresses, real tight around small waists and flows down to their feet. An elderly man with hunched shoulders and bearded is seated between the girls on each side, each girl laying a hand on each of his shoulders. In Bakersfield you have a lot of Florentina's descentdants like Aviles, Montoya, Simoni, Jacomini and many others. I also have later photos taken about 1915 or so, real Indian in appearance but beautiful girls. If you wish to exchange info, write me at "johnalbitre@sbcglobal.net" Just thought I'd let you known. Cousin john

Hi Julie
Nice hearing from you. And though I don't recall meeting you, I know Toni and Louise really well. I went to grammer school with all of them and as a teen-ager I and Fred "hung-out" as they say. Dutch and my Dad Boy, used to go every week to Wrestlings on Wednesdays and boxing on Fridays. They took Ernie, my brother Joe and I every week. As matter of fact, Ernie and I visit now and then and they also attend our yearly Christmas parties. I love all my cousins. As for Sebastian, I don't know of anyone who pulled so many shenanigans during the Mission Era and though imprisononed for short stays, he got away with much of his bad conduct. He was a lively character, colorful as the came. Anyway, love you and tell your Mom hi for me. You can email me at "johnalbitre@sbcglobal.net" if you wish. Cousin john

I talked to my Uncle Ernie and he knew exactly who I was talking about when I mentioned the information that I had read. Uncle Ernie told me to only contact you about our history. I have to get your book. Thank you! I have no ill conceived notions on you being good or bad? I myself have not heard anything bad, plus I'm not a judge...just kidding...

Thank you again!
JuLee
Dear Julie
My name is John Albitre. Gene Albitre is the cousin that provided Jo Fischer with the Genealogy of the Albitre's. Now, she has taken my work and added so much nonsense, it makes me sick. I've asked her to quit, but I see she hasn't as yet. There was only one Felipe Sebastian Albitre, not two. Her writing is fiction, nothing more, making us look ridiculous. The founding (1781)of Los Angeles is well documented. She claims it was Casa Albitre first and the lands he later passed on to officials and it became the City of Los Angeles in 1781. Three men, a Soto, an Avila and Albitre were charged with rape, though it was never proven. He spent several years in ball and chain at Loreto, Baja California. Released, he was sentenced to San Jose, the frontier when it wass founded in 1777. He lived there several years. Displeaserd with his conduct, he was banished from San Jose to Losd Angeles, with animals and farm implements to a land site comparable to the one at San Jose, in the city of Los Angeles. For his conduct, he was banished to Loreto, Baja California. He married Rufina Hernandez, a Spaniard there. Jacinto, his first born son was born in Loret. He regressed to Los Angeles.
Anyway, most of his earlier years were spent imprisoned. Most of his time in the earliest years were spent in ball & chain
Believe, me there was no Casa Albitre
What Jo Fischer writes is all fiction. In one site, she claimsd the story of Zorro is based on the life of Sebastian Albitre, a protector of the Indians? Ha, he was a headache to the Padre's and Don Pedro Fages. In one incident, he was accused of kidnapping, though the Indian woman really left her husband and accompanied him on his way to Sinaloa. But hunger forced him to surrender himself to Pedro Fages at San Gabriel Mission. Sebastian was sent to the Santa Batbara Presidio - ball and chain again. He was one onery cus, creating excitment wherever he set his foot and I see his wild side in many of descendants.
Some relatives accuse me of bad mouthing my ancestor Sebastian? Ha, if they only knew the truth. Please Julie, don't send Fischer more ammo - she gets info and turns around in so many ways, its not recognizable. Ask her for her "Source" - she cannot give you a source because she's too embarrassed to tell you the stories are her own assumptions. Google this site: Los Californianos Query 257, 8 April 2005
This will tell you a lot on Fischer

Queries 251-260 - Los CalifornianosSep 22, 2007 ... Pregunta 257 - 8 April 2005 [See Pregunta #370 for more on this Query]. Note: because this query is so lengthy I am going to interject, ...
www.loscalifornianos.org/queries_251-260.html - Cached - Similar
Julie, your Cousin John - I'm really not a bad guy. Email me sometime.

Hello! I don't if you are still looking for information on the Albitre family. I am the great-grandaughter of Anastacio "Dutch" Albitre. I have the Lineage and a cousin, John Albitre, actually did the research on this, but his information makes Sebastian look like an immoral degenerate. I will scan the documents and then email them to you. I know you are looking into Ernest Albitre, I don't know if you realize that there are so many Ernie's in the family that it can be like a needle in a haystack.

Thank you so much for the information you have provided. I can's wait to tell my Mom and Aunt's and Uncle's if they don't already know this.
