A note in the clipping file at the local library reads as follows:
Frank John Alby, United States Navy, born Sept 2, 1918, died July 8, 1943, Machinist’s Mate Second Class, was aboard USS Strong when it was torpedoed July 5, 1943, during the bombardment of Georgia Island. He died of injuries three days later, July 8, 1943, and was buried at sea in the Kula Gulf.

Frank's mother Liliah died in Aug of 1946. She died in Indianapolis and the funeral was held in Kalamazoo, MI. Survivors listed in her obit were her mother, Lorene Priester of Kalamazoo; four daughters, Mrs. Lorene Shattuck of Farmington, MI, Mrs. Jeanne Myers of Greensboro, NC, Ruth and Marie Alby at home, two brothers Richard Clippinger of Paw Paw, MI and Lawrence Clippinger of South Bend.
Frank's father, Frank Sr., died in Nov 1962 in a state hospital at New Castle, IN where he had been since 1931. His obit listed survivors; four daughters Lorene in Los Angeles, Jean, Liliah Ruth, Marie all in Detroit, two sisters Mrs. Joseph Haney and Mrs. Mary Safety of So Bend. I will see if I can find descendents of the local survivors.
