Hi,
Since I first posted my message about David Carwithy and the possible maiden name of Grace Carwithy being Alcock, my research has pretty much convinced me that she was not an Alcock. The use of "brother" and "sister" to refer to fellow church members in that context was common. I does not mean any necessary family relationship. The Alcock will document most probably refers to some amount of money owed "brother" Carwity, fellow church member.
David Carwithy and his wife Grace were married by the time they left Devon England for New England. They had children born in England. I found no evidence of the Alcock name in the area of Devon where they were from (being the area around Clawton etc.) In general, Alcock is a name from much further north in other counties of England.
At this point there are not records available to show Grace's maiden name or a record of their marriage.
Part of this reflects that availability of records that might later become available. Part of it reflects the great loss of Devon records in the bombing of Devon and especially the records kept at Exector that were lost in WWII.
Let me know if you find any further records that would help with this family.
