Alfred Alcox

Alfred John Alcox emigrated from England in 1910. He shows up on the 1911 census as living in Vancouver and working as a police officer. He died August 1962.
Has was married to Charlotte Annie when he arrived and was married to her at the time of the 1911 census. She died 1957.

I am unable to trace any children and some by the name of Lorretta who is believed to be a second wife and after whom I was named. If anyone has any further information about this family I would be very interested.

Jill,
I found in my grandmother's bible, the birth of Daniel Willie Alcox and John Edgar Alcox. Further research has shown them to be the sons of James Alcox and Emma Johnson. Never have I heard these names mentioned in our family. Do not know why they would be in her bible. This is in Dare County, North Carolina which use to be part of Tyrrell County, North Carolina.
What was your grandmother's name.
Betsy

Hi,
I will look for those names for you, I am wondering if you have run across the name Mary E. Alcox who married a R. S. Wright on 18 Feb 1900 in Tyrrell County, North Carolina.
My grandmother's Bible has several Alcox listed as being born and from researching, I think that i have stumbled across the right family. I have never heard the name Alcox mentioned as being part of our family but am wondering why she would have the births of Daniel W. Alcox and J. E. Alcox. If i have found the right family there was another son, Samuel Alcox and a daughter Mary E. Alcox that would be brother and sister to Daniel and J. E. Alcox.
Do you have any information on these persons.
Thanks in advance for any information you will share
Betsy

Looking for any info on James E. Alcox, probably
born between 1900-1915, in NC. Have several letters
from him to my grandmother, indicating that
they are brother and sister. (My grandmother
was adopted) Know that he lived in Winston-Salem
in the 1920s.

James E. Alcox

Dawn, unfortunately I have virtually nothing. I have
3 handwritten letters from him with a Winston-Salem, NC
address, dated 1928. I had assumed he was an older
brother which would put his birthdate before
1908. His mother would have been Katie Watson, we think
although we are not sure. I've not looked into this
very thoroughly yet...any help or ideas would be appreciated.

James Alcox

Dawn, I have found a James Alcox listed there, but the
birthdate is late...how accurate are those dates? This
is such a mystery for us. We never knew my grandmother had
any contact with her biological brother and after she
died we found his letters. The spelling is definitely Alcox
in his handwriting...I would love to have any information you
can find, I believe the James Alcox above is the son of
a Gertie Lupton, also of eastern NC (which is where my grandmother
always said her birth mother was from...) Curiouser, and curiouser...
my email address is jillpmcd@bellsouth.net or I will keep
checking here. Thanks for the help!
