I'm searching for info on the parents of my 6th great-grandfather George Alder, and I have a lead that he may have immigrated to America from Alnwick, Northumberland, England.
George Alder (d. 1737 Prince Georges Co., Maryland) married Elizabeth Keech (d. 1786 Prince Georges Co., Maryland). They were married 16 Dec 1729 in Piscataway, Prince Georges Co. Elizabeth (Keech) Alder remarried, after George's death, to Joseph Green Simpson. The 4 children of George and Elizabeth (Keech) Alder, all born in St. John's Parish, Prince Georges Co. were:
1) James Alder (b. 7 Oct 1730; d. 29 Nov 1775 PG Co.; m. Elizabeth Latimer)
2) Bowles Alder (b. 5 Jan 1732)
3) Ruth Hawkins Alder (b. 24 Mar 1735)
4) Mary Lindzy Alder (b. 12 Oct 1737)
I found that the parents of Elizabeth (Keech) Alder were James Keech and Ruth Hawkins, of Charles County, Maryland. Note that George and Elizabeth Alder named their first daughter Ruth Hawkins Alder, after her maternal grandmother. So it stands to reason that their other daughter, Mary Lindzy Alder, may have been named after her paternal grandmother. To that end I did discover that there was a Mary Lindsey who married a George Alder on 29 Jun 1680 in Alnwick, Northumberland, England, according to church records there. Does anyone have information on this George Alder and Mary Lindsey, or know whether they had a son named George who immigrated to America? The timeframe seems to fit for them to be parents of my George Alder. I found from Alnwick church records that there were at least two children named George Alder born in Alnwick just after 1680; one was born in 1683 and another in 1692, and in both cases the father was also named George Alder. If my George Alder did emigrate from Alnwick, that may explain why I fail to find earlier records (before 1729) of him or others named Alder in PG Co., Maryland.
Also, I am interested in contacting other researchers who carry the suranme Alder and who participate in Y-DNA testing for genealogical purposes. I would love to share my DNA info with others who may share a common paternal line.
