Aldred's of Belper

Could anyone assist with my search.
I am trying to locate the death of Sarah Aldred (nee Dudley)born abt 1837 in Shepshed, Leicestershire, England. She marries a James Aldred in Belper in 1856 and seems to stay in this area for the remainder of her life.
I have Sarah throughout the census reports, well until 1901.At this point I lose all trace of her. Some of her children and siblings move to Chesterfield in Derbyshire, but she doesn't appear to go with them. I can find no trace of her in the 1911 census either.
I have searched and searched for her death, it doesn't help that the name Aldred is often mispelt as Alldred, Alldred, Oldroyd etc etc. I have even tried just putting Sarah and an approx date of birth in the search box and come up with nothing. It doesn't help that the Belper records are very patchy to say the least.
There is a family rumour (and its is just a rumour) that some of the family may have emigrated to South Africa, but I can find no proof of this. I have also explored the possibility that Sarah may have remarried, but again have drawn a blank on this one.
Any assistance would be very gratefully received.
Many Thanks

Hello All

I am researching my husbands ancestry and have come across a Caroline Ann Aldred who I believe was a sister to Charles Augustine, the subject of this discussion. As I have only just started with this line and am struggling already I should be grateful if anyone has any information on the ancestors of caroline and Charles Augustine. I believe they had a brother named Bernhard Mette Alldred- this seems a strange name- perhaps Dutch?

Jayne

Hi Ainslie - thanks for the info. I will reply further via your private email.
I agree though about the Sagapore, or Sagpore not being a place in India. Not sure if it may be Nagpur in the modern state of Maharashtra? Can't seem to find Nagapore, except on old posts.
I would like to hear from any other Aldred or Sharpe descendants.
Val

My husband's grandfather was Robert Egbert Sharpe - one of the sons of John Henry Sharpe and Isabella Sarah Aldred. Isabella's mother Isabella was indeed a widow when she married John Henry Sharpe,in Nagpore (from then hand written register it appears to be Nagpore rather than Sagpore as stated in some other posts.) However she was also a widow when she married James Rowe on the 18th April 1831 at Nagpore. Her previous married name was Bell. I have yet to research this marriage. In the marriage register for her marriage to George Aldred, Isabella Rowe is described as widow, Indo-Briton.
Regards
Ainslie
Perth, Western Australia

Hi. Just noted a 2007 query about the Aldred family in India.
My great-grandmother, Anne Isabel Norris nee Sharpe, was one of 8 children born to John Henry & Isabella Sarah Sharpe, nee Aldred. (Anne & Henry Norris & 6 children moved to Australia to live in 1910 from India.)
I believe Isabella to be the child of George & Isabella Aldred, born 1843 in Arcot, Tamil Nadu, India.
I had dismissed this birth previously because most of my family worked, or did military service, in northern India.
I now realise that John & Isabella Sharpe's eldest child was born in the Madras presidency.
So I think I do have the right details now.
I have seen on other forums that George Aldred was a private in Madras European Regiment - also that he married Isabella Rowe in 1834 at Sagapore, India.
There seemed to be a suggestion that Isabella (a widow) may have been Anglo-India or of mixed marriage.
Any further advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks - Val, Queensland, Australia

James, b. 1843 d.1856, Elizabeth, b. 1845, Henry, b.1849, Jane, b.1855, Esther, b. 1857 and Robert. who died 8-29-1857
My father often mention the Roberts family. Infact Lattie Roberts Meisch live next door to us when I was a child.
Do you know if James Aldred b. 1816, had a brother named Robert? If so do you have any information on him?
Joan Aldred Beach

Hello Betty,

Are you a descendant of Mary Jane Aldred and James Fleming? I am a descendant of James and Mary Ann (Durrant) Aldred through their youngest son, John, who married Margaret McCormick. Would be interested in sharing information, although I have little that goes farther back. If you search for "Durrant" on this board you will find a note by David Creelman from 2000 that gives the basics.

Contact me at aldregene @ hotmail.com (without the spaces).

Cheers,
Wayne Neily

Also, Thomas Sr was a methodist minister & 1 son helped found high st methodist church in Nashville.

I know that the family was in Nashville by 1895 if not earlier. I thought that they might have family in Philadelphia who helped them when they first arrived?? I would appreciate any additional information! Thanks!

Kim,
Have you located any additional information on Susannah Treadway?
Susannah appears to be the daughter of one, William Treadway (b 1774-1784), of Buncombe Co NC. She is one of the six daughters listed in the 1820 Buncombe Co NC census. Susannah's only brother, was also, a Robert Peter Treadway (b 1806 NC) who married Elizabeth Ray and migrated to KY by 1840.
Susannah had a son born out-of-wedlock, in the 1820s. His name is Robert Peter Treadway. Robert's father was John Ramsey. [There is a bastardy bond on record in Buncombe Co NC which names John Ramsey as the father of Susannah Treadway's baseborn child.]
Susannah married Hinkle (a widower) and they moved to KY. Susannah & Hinkle, apparently, divorced, and Susannah remarried.
Hope some of this helps.
