ELRY W. ALDRICH
Elry Wood Aldrich was born in New York, November 1816. He was of English and Scotch descent. He was the son of Turner and Ruth. In 1849 he was married to Cynthia Eurena Cecelia Alice Sweet, who was born in 1831 in Barcelona, Spain . She came to Canada when she was 12 years old with her parents. Then to the United States to Vermont and from there to John Day, Oregon.
Elry and Cynthia Aldrich were the parents of the following children and grandchildren:
1. George Aldrich - husband of Lydia Hardin; children, Herman, Velton, Roma and Alvin.
2. Reno Aldrich - husband of Clara Ingle; children, Harland, Wendell, and Berthel.
3. Frank Aldrich - husband of Dessie Helmick; children, Oll, Lewis, Elvin, Everett, George and Mina.
4. Elmer (Oll) - husband of Louisa Officer.
5. Francelia (Jose) - wife of M. D. Reeves; children, Rose, Pearl, Minnie, Frank and Lewis.
6. Ella - wife of Jim Thorpe; children, Eurena "Kib", Bertha and John. Married later to Ed Noble; children, Ida and Walter.
7. Elnora (Jen) - wife of R. C. Fulkerson; children, Cora, Edith, Ollie and Jack.
8. Ida Cecelia - wife of James C. Lemons; children, Noel, Roland, Frank, Byron, Amy, Myrtle and Clara "Babe".
9. Edawrd E. "Jack" Aldrich - never married.
Elry was a carpenter and teamster. He built the Bonham house which is now a part of the First Baptist Church in John Day. Their son Oliver "Oll" Aldrich was killed by Indians on Murderers Creek on the Billy Stewart ranch, June 29th, 1878, and was buried between Dayville and Mt. Vernon, Oregon. A mountain above where he was buried was named after him.
Elry was killed while driving a freight wagon that overturned on Dixie Mountain, August 28, 1889. He was buried in Canyon City.
His wife, Cynthia, passed away at her son Frank's home in Bear Valley in 1890. Due to the deep snow her body was brought to Canyon on a sled, with men wearing snow shoes. Burial was in the Canyon City Cemetery.

No mention was made of Ellery's (correct spelling) other previous wives and one son of his first wife. There were other children by his wife Cynthia not mentioned. The order of children as shown above is not correct.
Cynthia was born in Barcelona, New York (on Lake Erie). Her parents came from Vermont. They moved to Michigan through Canada when she was 12 years old.
Elnora's daughter Olive is never called Ollie. Frank's son mentioned as Oll is Oel.
