Esther Aldridge of Lenoir Co, NC

Hi, I'm researching one of my ancestors. Her name was Esther Aldridge (also given as "Penelope Esther Aldridge") and she was born in Lenoir Co, NC, on 22 December, 1803.

Probably sometime around 1820-1825 she married Daniel Brown Byrd of Harnett Co, NC, by whom she had numerous children. They lived in Harnett County thereafter.

I have had suggestions that the parents of my Esther Aldridge are a Thomas Aldridge (Alderage, etc), born ca 1779, and his wife Susan (or Susannah) Miller, also born probably during the 1770's. Thomas and Susannah Miller Aldridge may have lived in Randolph Co, NC before moving to Lenoir County, NC.

I am stuck on this line (I have lots on the Byrd family but basically NOTHING on the Aldridge line) and I would so appreciate it if anyone can steer me towards my Esther Aldridge Byrd's parents, siblings, grandparents, etc. All information would be so welcome!!

You can reach me here or at my email address orangeblossom17@gmail.com.

Thanks! :-)

I am looking for information on my grandfather's family. He was Rube James Aldridge, born May 3, 1888, in Mississippi I assume, died Sept 1, 1951, in Leflore County, Mississippi. His parents were Rube Aldridge and Willie Williams. He was married to Janie Cornelia Salley.

His children were Ruby Lee, Marlin, Marshall, D.M.(Daniel), and Glen(my father).

His siblings were: J. D., Lewis, Linn, Maude, Rose, Burt, Charlie, Dewey, Connie, ??.

Some personal records I found spell his name Ruben.

He was probably born in Webster County, Mississippi, or a county close by.

I've learned a little more (potentially) about Jacob. In 1776, he was in Prince Georges County, according to the state census of that year, with wife Elizabeth, 3 sons, a daughter, and 6 "Negroes". So if Elizabeth was a Simpson, there was a John Simpson who witnessed the will of James Hook in 1761, also in Prince Georges County. Can anyone make a connection between a potential Elizabeth Simpson and Jacob Aldridge, or between a potential Elizabeth Simpson and John Simpson?

Still searching...

Janice in Indiana

I may have found your aunt and spouse slightly mis-spelled,
Mont and Rachel Allridge, Butler Co., KS in 1900, both b NC, he was a preacher. A son, Mont Jr was born Oregon--later, in 1920, Mont Jr(Montville P. Aldridge)b OR, is also in MN at Slayton Twp., Murray Co., MN, (wife b IA, son b MN) if this is them they had, in 1900, 9 births and 6 living children born TN, OR, KS, etc. they were all over the place so MO, KS and IA for the next 3 would be very likely, this could definitely open up your family, a lot, if this is them. Best wishes to you, from an unrelated Ohio Aldridge line also researching ministers.

Aldridge of KY and Maury Co, TN

I'm searching for the ancestors of John Aldridge who shows up in the 1850 census of Maury Co, TN. The census shows that he was born about 1801 in KY. We know that this John Aldridge married Eliza Hickerson, daughter of John Hickerson who was one of the founders of Coffee Co, TN, and that John and Eliza with family moved to Bastrop Co, TX and appear there in the 1860 census there. A Bastrop Co, TX newspaper article said that John was born near Louisville, KY. The article also said that John had gotten crossways with his father over helping one of his sisters get married and because of this John refused to accept any of his estate when his father died. They didn't mention the name of his sister or his father.

In searching the 1810 census for KY, I find that there is only one real possibility for a family that would include a son born about 1801, that being a Samuel Aldridge who is living in Nelson Co, KY with three sons under 10 years old, one daughter under 10, 2 daughters over 10 but under 16 years old. There is no wife shown. There are other Aldridge in the 1810 census, but none are close to the Louisville area. Samuel apparently shows up again in the 1820 census in Breckinridge Co, KY with a house full of children and what appears to be a wife. For the 1830 census he is gone. Judging by the census age ranges for Samuel, he apparently was born sometime between 1765 and 1775.

In looking at family trees posted to Ancestry.com, I find several that show Samuel Aldridge died in Maury Co, TN about 1840. I cannot find where this death information comes from or what the proof of it is. Judging by the fact that there was an Aaron Aldridge, about Samuel's age, who did die in Maury Co, TN about 1823, I can see where there may be a close family connection between Samuel and Aaron Aldridge, possibly brothers. I have found references to court records that shows where an adult Samuel Aldridge lived about 1823 in Maury Co, TN. If this Samuel is the same one who formerly lived in KY, then with John showing up in the 1850 census of Maury Co, TN, it seems logical that they were father and son.

When I look at these trees on Ancestry, I see that many people have linked Aaron of Maury Co, TN to William Ezekiel Aldridge as being his father and under William E. Aldridge I find that there is a Samuel listed as his son. No one seems to have made the connection that this Samuel from TN and KY is probably William E. Aldridge's son. I also find trees that show this same Samuel having a son named John, but no other information is provided for him.

What I would like to know is where is the proof that Samuel died in Maury Co, TN about 1840? Was there a will? Did it mention his children, grandchildren? I saw one statement in a tree that said that the will of William E. Aldridge named all his children and grandchildren. Would someone who has access to this listing please post them?

I ordered another child's certificate and this time it was Aldridge.

Honour married James John Roberts who was a wheelwright. They lived in Gloucester until moving to Walsall, Staffordshire in the 1850's.

Ernest Edward Aldridge

Was my grandfather on mothers side. She is now dead but when alive always wanted to know if her father Ernest Edward Aldridge had any living relatives.
From information i have reseearched he was born in Lambeth London in 1882 . Joined the 18th Hussars (Queen Marys Own) and 1901 census shows he was 19 and in Canterbury barracks. He was in the Boer War as i have a medal 1902 for the Transvaal Campaign. He was married in York in 1909 to my grandmother and my mother was born May 05 1910. No further information except two photos taken in York of him one on horsback. Think taken 1914. Was killed in Action 13 May 1915 in france/flanders although theatre of war shows Aldershot which i dont understand. His name is on then Menin memorial.

Yes, that's the family I'm looking for. I've been investigating the possibility that my Aldridge family is related and have collected several documents in the process. Although I'm sure there's a connection, I don't have any documented proof. I've about decided that a DNA test my be my only hope. I know of one male Aldridge descendant that I could possibly test with my father but haven't proceeded yet.

I was once told that your great grandfather Arthur Oscar "Bob" Aldridge knew the whole story about my family. Unfortunately, it's too late to ask him.

I would love to correspond more. I can send you any documents you would like, if you contact me through e-mail. My address is aldridge@tds.net
