Classification: Death
Surnames: Alexander, Field, Hillyer, Watkins, Foster
Hooper Alexander had a first wife that has not been recognized: Mary Hillyer Field, the daughter of Joseph W. Field, an extremely wealthy planter/judge of Columbus, MS, and his wife Emily (Emilie) Foster. Emilie was the daughter of Jane Selina Watkins and Dr. Arthur Foster (her first husband). Jane's second husband was Hon. Junius Hillyer, by whom she had 9 children, Emilie being the only child of the first marriage. Jane Watkins Foster Hillyer was the daughter of Maj. George Watkins and Mary Early, of Greene County, GA & Augusta. Very sadly, Mary Field Alexander died within a year of her marriage to Hooper Alexander. [Virginia Sanders-Mylius]

February 2, 1890 ( Sunday) Macon Telegraph (GA):, page 2: DEATH OF MRS. HOOPER ALEXANDER, Atlanta, Feb 1: Mrs. Hooper Alexander died here last night. Mr. and Mrs. Alexander were married only about a year ago. The young wife was the daughter of Judge JOSEPH W. FIELD of Columbus, Miss., and her mother was a sister of Judge George Hillyer of Atlanta. She was left an orphan when only a child. As Miss MAY (sic) FIELD she had many friends in Atlanta, who, with those of her husband, Mr. Hooper Alexander, formerly of Rome, GA, will deeply feel her loss.
