Hooper Alexander had a first wife that has not been recognized: Mary Hillyer Field, the daughter of Joseph W. Field, an extremely wealthy planter/judge of Columbus, MS, and his wife Emily (Emilie) Foster. Emilie was the daughter of Jane Selina Watkins and Dr. Arthur Foster (her first husband). Jane's second husband was Hon. Junius Hillyer, by whom she had 9 children, Emilie being the only child of the first marriage. Jane Watkins Foster Hillyer was the daughter of Maj. George Watkins and Mary Early, of Greene County, GA & Augusta. Very sadly, Mary Field Alexander died within a year of her marriage to Hooper Alexander. [Virginia Sanders-Mylius]
