Alford family in Delaware, 1700s

In 1752 John & Lydia Wright sold their land in the Duck Creek area of Kent Co, DE, to Moses Alford. Although I have not found when he acquired this land, I think it may have been bought from someone in the Alford family. Lydia's parentage is unknown, but she may have been an Alford. They married about 1738. I would appreciate any information that may help break down this brick wall.

Groce in Fayette Co TX 12-23-1868.
She may or may not be the mother of James’ daughter, Oceanica Annie Mae Groce, who was born in Fayette Co TX, 7-27-1863.
A guardianship for Oceanica in Fayette Co TX says that Amanda & James are the parents who fought for her custody.
Deed records in Burnet Co TX have an affidavit stating that Amanda & James were divorced [and the parents of Oce], another deed record in Burnet has Amanda living in Marcelena, Wilson Co TX in 1893.

I have not found a divorce record for Amanda & James.
I do not know where or when she died and is buried,
I do not know where she was born except AL abt 1831.
I do not know why they waited until Oce was abt 5 yrs old to marry, which is why I do not know if Amanda was Oce’s bio-mother.

If you have any clues…please respond!
Hello Glenda.
Rutherford Alford would have been a cousin of my grandparents. (Cousin married cousin). His father William was also a jockey and died in Calcutta. His family returned to Perth WA, some of whom are still there. William's parents, brothers and sisters lived in Gippsland Victoria and I have an extensive family tree which I would be willing to share. I do know a little about William's line but would love to hear more.
Hoping that you receive this message
Joan

My Grandmother was born in Cleveland, Tenn. in 1876. Daughter of L.A. Alford b.1849 & Nannie b.1849. Siblings: Reno & 1/2 sister Lenny(married to Tom). Florence E. Alford married Olin 'Coon' Denton b.1874 (from Snowbird Creek NC) in I assume 'Cleveland'. This is where he came to from the 'Snowbird Creek' area in Graham Co. NC. They moved to Charleston where my father Robert Taylor Denton (b.1910) & 'some?' other siblings were born. Later returned to Cleveland and bought farm outside of town (Bradley Co.). Florence died in Bradley Co. in 1918. 'They' had a total of 9 children before Florence died. Olin 'Coon' Denton 'later' married "Grandma Fan" and had "SEVERAL" more children. I have all of their names. Ring any 'bells' for anyone????

I am looking for a link to my g-g-g-grandmother, Sarah Elizabeth Carroll. Her father was Samuel Denison Carroll and her mom was Lydia Baker. She was born abt. 1844 and to the best of my knoledge married an Alford around 1860 and had a son abt 1862. Before 1867 she married a Tyler and had two children. By 1880 she was listed as a widow in the census without ever having a husband listed in the census. Does this ring any bells for anyone?

Can any of you tell me who he belonged to, which branch of the family and from where? Thanks.

I am looking for information on the family of Job Alford (Alvord) and Margaret Wood. I have seen the following on the internet, but have some questions:

Job Alford: b: 26 Aug 1708, Windsor, Hartford, Connecticut
d: 4 Sep 1738, Harwinton, Litchfield, Connecticut
m: Margaret Wood, 12 Feb 1735, in Hartford, Hartford, CT

Margaret Wood:	b: abt 1712

Children:

Job Alford M	b: 3 Jul 1736 in Windsor, Hartford, CT	m: Jerusha Burnham
John Alford M	b: 4 Sep 1738 in Windsor, Hartford, CT	m: Annice Judd
Alexander Alford	M	b: 7 Jul 1741 in Harwinton, Litchfield, CT	m: Elizabeth Ely
Mary Alford F	b: 2 Dec 1743 in Litchfield, Litchfield, CT	m: Unknown
William Alford	M	b: 7 Dec 1745 in Harwinton, Litchfield, CT	m: Abigail Dorchester
Elizabeth Alford	F	b: 22 Jul 1752 in Litchfield, Litchfield, CT	m: Unknown
Eliphalet Alford	M	b: 22 Jul 1752 in Litchfield, Litchfield, CT	m: Dorcas Ely

Here are my questions:

1) Job Alford’s death date is listed as 4 Sep 1738, the same as his second son’s birth date. Yet, there are five more children up to 22 Jul 1755. What is Job’s real death date?

2) Margaret’s name obviously would have been Margaret Alford. However, in a 1791 land record in Harwinton she is listed as “Margaret Judd” transacting some property business with her son Eliphalet. Did Margaret Wood Alford re-marry to a man named Judd? If yes, what was the name of her second husband?

3) Neither Mary nor Elizabeth Alford is listed with a husband. Did these two sisters ever get married? If yes, what were the names of their husbands? And what were their whereabouts after the got married?

Please do not hesitate to respond directly to me at juddville@msn.com.

Thank you for your help.

Frank F.
I am searching for information W.W. Alford in Claiborne Parish, (later was Webster Parish) in Minden.

I have him in the 1860 Census, listed as 50 years old, having three children (but I think there are more): Lenorah (married to Elias Hooper), Joseph, age 14, and Allatia (spelled wrong) age 11. His wife is listed as Milla. He shows his place of birth as North Carolina.

I've talked to various family members who say that the Alford's of Claiborne, Washington and Sabine parish are all decended from the same source - but I can't find that source.
Has anyone come across my W.W. Alford?

Roswell Alford (1793-1879) - NY, MI & OH

Looking for information on my husband's ancestor Roswell Alford. He was born about 1793 in New York. Served in the War of 1812 from Wayne County, NY. Died in 1879 and is buried in Springville Cemetery, Seneca County, Ohio. First wife unknown, but they had at least two children - Harriet N. (Alford) Lombard (1825-1878) and Caroline (Alford) Class (1832-1859). Second wife was Cinnet Kendall (1810-1870). Kendall was probably Cinnet's name from a first marriage, she had a daughter Martha Kendall who married Henry Weller.

The family seems to have moved a great deal. I believe they lived in New York until about 1850, at which time they moved to Michigan (Roswell Alford purchased land in Wayne County, Michigan in 1830). They stayed briefly in Michigan but had returned to New York by 1852. Moved to Seneca County, Ohio sometime between 1857-1859.

If anyone is related to this line, or has any ideas how Roswell fits in with the older New England Alfords I would love to talk.

-Kimberly Groth-

My father-in-law doesn't have much information regarding his father (Jack), nor his grandparents (J.E. and Louella).
I am looking for information on William, Franklin, and James Alford. All or some may have lived in Dubois Co. before 1850. The all made purchased in Porters Store in Portersville in Dubois Co. James lived in Daviess Co in 1847 and may have moved to Martin Co. by 1850. There is a James Alford married to a Mary in the 1850 cen. in Martin Co. It has him listed being born in Va. and Mary as being born in Ky. Their children were all born in Indiana. Does anyone know if any of these Alfords married into the Street family in Martin Co.? Any information is welcome. Thanks. Sue

I am currently researching Casualties from the Boer War (or South African War) which lasted from 1899 until 1902. In particular I am looking for any information which someone might have on an E H R ALFORD, who was a Private in the Mounted Infantry company of the British regiment the HIGHLAND LIGHT INFANTRY. I don't have a date of death, but he would have died during the period of the War, as he is listed on the regiment's War Memorial for this War, which is located in Glasgow.

Does this name ring a bell with anyone? I am looking for any information you may have about this person, in particular any details of where he was born, who his parents were, where he was brought up. Ideally, a photograph would be perfect.

I am intending to publish a list of Casualties for this war, and I will give credit for any information received.

Hi Anyone, Does anyone have any information on Jeremiah Hurst who married Jane Alford in Wythe Co, Va, in 1805. The name transcribed by the court clerk is Jeremiah Hewlett, but there were no Hewlett families in Wythe Co at that time. There were several Hurst families. Jeremiah and Jane were on the 1810 Wythe Co Census, but not in 1820. Does anyone know where this couple might have migrated. Ruth

Grover A Alford obit January 1947 in Los Angeles

Looking for an obit for Grover A Alford, I believe he was born in Arkansas about 1887. He was married to a woman named Ida and they lived in Los Angeles, unknown what county - his death date is listed as January 27, 1947 in Los Angeles. Would appreciate any info.
Darlene
