Hi again,
Yes we have the same line, just different brothers for great grandfathers. If you send me an email address I can send you the records that I have from reginald Orvis. He is a relative too. There are pages of records going back to 1580. It is really great to look at. So send me an address to email it to.
Thanks, Edie

Hi Edie:

Thanks for the quick response! I'm not sure where your family line ties in with ours. My 4x grandfather is David L. Alger, born in Ripton VT Oct. 20, 1832. There are more than one thread out there that seem to confirm that he was the son of Nathan and Permelia (Lawrence) and married Mary Ann Kinsley. (is this where our family lines tie in?) His son Lewis S. is my 3x grandfather. (was Mary Ann the mother?) David married (again?) after he relocated to Franklinville, NY. around 1871.

So I guess I am looking to confirm that Nathan is David's father and also that Nathan's father was Asa, born April 4, 1758 at Killingly as documented in A. Alger's Genealogical History.

Best wishes.

Mark Alger

I would be very happy to share the information I have. I got it from Reginald Orvis. I can email it to you if you give me an email address to send it to. My great grandfather was Warren Alger, he was married to Delphine Durant. His son Edward Davis Alger, Sr. was my grandfather, he was married to Freda Adelia Dickinson. My dad is Edward Davis Alger, he was married to Edna Mae Zazycki(D-1975). Let me know what other information you would like.
It's nice to find a cousin!
Edie

(My ancestors are his son David and David's son Lewis of Franklinville NY.)

I am also intrigued by your tracing the lineage back to England (predating Thomas Alger of Taunton, MA) if you would be willing to share that info.

Mark Alger

Hello again,

I'm going to continue where I left off in my response to you yesterday 8/21/2009 re the Algers. This is the remaining info that I have in my database on this line.

Parents of Eber Hubbard, husband of Abigail Rumble:
Father: Robert Hubbard b. Sept 30. 1761 Middletown or Middlefield CT d. about 1835, buried Teresa NY.
Mother: Phebe Ford
Siblings:
Selah Hubbard
Joel Hubbard
Dyer Hubbard
Levi Hubbard
Theba Hubbard
Ruth Hubbard
Libbie Hubbard
Manda Hubbard
Sally Hubbard
John Hubbard

Parents of Abigail Rumble, wife of Eber Hubbard
Father: Nathan Rumble
Mother: Cloe Danks, b. about 1765 North Hampton MA

Hope this is helpful to you. If you get chance to talk with the couple who run the Alger Place B&B, if I remember correctly, they know some details about the Algers. I stayed about a week with them when I visited to do my genealogy research.
Wendy Fjelstad
Hello,
I haven't done much genealogy work lately. Have never completely figured out if the family name I'm interested in is Alger or actually Ager/Eager.

Anyway I do have some info on Hester Ann Hubbard who you mention. Her parents were:

Father: Eber Hubbard b. Aug 10 1785 d. Sept 22, 1841 in Alexandria Bay; he is buried 7 miles from Alexandria Bay. In he 1817 lived in Leyden and thereafter in Martinsburg. About 1831 he lived in Theresa. He was a carpenter and an Exhorter.

Mother: Abigail Rumble b. Apr 28, 1789 probably in Vermont d. June 23 1843 in Alexandria Bay; she is buried 7 miles from Alexandria Bay; they were married Feb 3, 1808

Their children were:
Eliza Hubbard b. 1809
Betsy Hannah Hubbard b. 1817
Hester Ann Hubbard b. Abt 1826
Phoebe Frances Hubbard b. Feb 1828
Mary E. Hubbard b. May 1829
Eber Hubbard b. Oct 1833

I've got the names of Eber's and Abigail's parents and some of their siblings, but I'm going to bed now. Will send that info another day.

Of the people listed above I have the most info on Phoebe Frances Hubbard who married William Pitcher. Most of my research has been on the Pitcher family.

My information source on the Hubbards was a genealogy prepared July 1, 1938 by Fred R. Barnes of Minneapolis, Minnesota. His notes state that his information came from Mrs. Clem Pitcher of Martinsburg. Fred Barnes is a descendent of Harvey H. and Betsy (Hubbard) Barnes. I don't remember anymore how I came across Fred Barnes genealogy.

My sister has since been out to Martinsburg and has seen Alger's B&B. She has also found where Fred and Nancy Rossum Alger are buried w/their son Earl who was killed in WW1. We can't get further back on the Alger side then Fred's parents Carlos & Hester Ann Hubbard Alger. There seem to be a lot of Alger's in Lowville but we don't know how their related. I am just getting started.

I would be glad to send to you any information I have. There is also a lady in NewYork state I have been in contact and she I believe is also a cousin. We wanted to do the DNA matching however we have to find a Morrison male and then they can compare us to him. Do you know of any? Since my grandmother died we have lost touch with the Morrisons. I am trying to find one. This is so exciting.
I also am a gggrand-daughter of Peter & Marinda (Alger) Morrison. Together, they had five sons. The information listed on Peter's military pension record (of which I have copies) the son's names are listed as: Peter, Dewitt, George, Lorenzo, and Alvardo. I am descended from their eldest, Peter who married Leanora Kingsbury. The elder Peter of Company A, 92nd NY Infantry, was killed in action at Chaffin's Farm, Virginia on Oct 7, 1864 when fired upon and shot in the neck. He is buried at Fort Harrison National Cemetery, Section A, Grave 132. Marinda remarried on June 7, 1867 to a Daniel Nichol(as) of Litchfield, Herkimer County, NY. I have more info on this family. Let's trade.

Alonso(z) had a brother and son with a MOST unusal first name ELIVARDO, one of my grandmother's siblings.
Hi William, I believe I am a distant relative of yours. My greatgrandfather Patrick Gavin was the brother of John Gavin who immigrated from Ireland where the men of the family were clay pipemakers. They went first to Canada. John then went to New Hampshire. John married Catherine McDerby and their daughter Catherine married William Francis Alger. Brothers James, Michael and Patrick and several sisters went to Boston. Patrick left Boston and went to California along with their mother, Margaret and sisters Bridget, Mary and Margaret. Michael stayed in Boston. If this sounds like your family, I'd love to hear from you.

John Gavin (b. Knockcroghery, Roscommon, Ireland) married Catherine McDerby (b. Canada). They settled in New Hampshire (Goffstown and Manchester.) They had nine children. One of those children was Catherine. Catherine married William F. Alger, Sr. and they had 12 children. One of those children was William F. Alger, Jr who married Ida. Sounds like the same family to me. William F. Alger, Sr. was born 21 July 1861 in Manchester, NH. His son Wm., Jr. was born November 1887. John Gavin was my great great uncle. If you are still researching, contact me.

Hello,

I too am researching Matthew Alger of Warren, CT.

In Fran Johnson's wonderful book, _A Register of Some of the Families that have lived in Kent, CT., 1739-1999_, she shows that Rachail Alger, daughter of Matthew and Mehitable (___) Alger, married Benjamin Swan on 1 January 1794 in Warren, citing Warren Vital Records 1:4.

You probably already have this information, but I would be most interested in corresponding with you. I'm trying to find what happened to Matthew and Mehitable's son Matthew Jr.; I lost track of him after the 1800 census. Did he die soon after or remove elsewhere? If the latter, where?

Thanks!
Judi Watson

I am trying to trace any descendents of Harry & Ellen.

Harry was born in Redgrave Suffolk England in 1863 and the 1910 census has him living in District 82 Township 1 of Shasta California, it also shows that he emigrated to the USA in 1883. He died in 1942 in San Fransico.

In 1910 Harry's brother Charles dies and Harry pays for his widow and children to join him in California from England. They are listed arriving at Ellis Island in September 1910.

Ellen had 2 sons from her 1st marriage, Charles William Alger 1902-1983 & Harry Clifford Alger 1906-1988.

Later censuses show Harry & Ellen as married and in August 1911 they have twin girls Emily M & Lilian E Alger.

If you are related to any of these people or have any further information please contact me.

James

My gg grandmother, Charity ALGER, who was born abut 1813, was the first wife of Orange PECK in Delaware Co., NY. (Orange's second wife was Sarah Vanderwalker.) Charity and Orange had children William, John W., David George, Caroline, Adeline Ruth, Albert and Alfred PECK. Charity died quite young, in the 42nd year of her age, June 8, 1854, and is buried in Congrregational/Pioneer Cemetery in Sidney, Delaware Co.,NY. She is one of my brick walls. Her parents may have been David and Catherine (Charity?) Beams ALGER, but how can one prove it? Does anyone know anything about this Charity Alger?
Thanks very much.
Jayne
perllan987@aol.com

I thought i'd post the links to a video my grandfather took from an Alger Family Reunion back in August of 1986. This family stems from George & Cora Mae Alger from Franklin County, New York. I believe the reunion was in Oxford, New York, but not 100% sure. I also do not recogize most of the people in the video, outside of my immediate family, so if there are any familiar faces, please let me know!! Enjoy!

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byijdcenWeE

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zi32CM1JaJc

The Crouch/Lewis Family Connection from Saint Albans WV

Sorry to have posted this on an old message but I had to get through to you....do you need additional information for the Crouch/Lewis family from Saint Albans WV. Daisy and LeRoy had 5 children...and many, many more grandchildren spread throughout the Huntington WV region that I can give you to complete that history....if you need it.
They were my grandparents.
Please contact me at clally@cinci.rr.com if you would like additional information.

Thank you,
Cyndy
