Does your family tree include the following: Joannes Marting Alligue (Allig) 1670-1714 married to Verena Ziegler 1669-1730 Children: Josephus, Joh. Martinno, Anna Catherine, Margaritha, Mathias and Johannes Martinus? I have the Aleck (named changed from Alig) which shows a family crest and Aligs from Switzerland. I have many blanks to fill in.

Edith:

My father's grandfather was George Alig, who migrated to the United States from Obersaxen in the late 1900s. He resided in Indianapolis, Indiana, and started an iron foundry which developed into The Home Stove Company, which manufactured cast iron stoves. The company contributed the the World War I effort, and was dissolved after World War II. George had a family of six or seven children, one of which (also George) was my father's father. There are a lot of descendents of George Alig from Obersaxen in Indianapolis, Indiana. I am his great grandchild, and I live in the Washington, DC area.

We may be related. As my line starts at Joannes Marting Alligue (Allig) 1670-1714. Joannes died in Riegel, Baden, Germany. I have not been able to trace his parents. His wife was Verena Ziegler born 22 Sep 1669 died 03 Jan 1730. Parents were Rudof Ziegler and Catherine Hensler.

Children of Joannes and Verena were:
Josephus Allig Alligue b. 31 Jan 1710 Riegel, Baden, Germany d. 21 Jan 1778 Riegel, Baden, Germany
Joh. Martinno Allig b. 13 Aug 1700 d. 30 Apr 1703
Anna Catherine Allig b. 06 Feb 1702 d. 15 May 1707
Margaritha Allig b. 23 Apr 1705
Mathias Allig b. 24 Feb 1706
Johannes Martinus Allig 02 Aug 1712 d. 02 Mar 1715

My line starts from Josephus Allig Alligue who married Magdaline Muntschi. They had five children all of whom were born in Germany.

Julith Allig
Elisabeth Allig
Georgius Allig
Michael Aleck (my line starts here)
Rosa Aleck

Michael Aleck married Franziska Steiger they had 6 children all born in Germany:

Laurentius (Lorenz) Aleck (my line)
Martinus Coelestinus Aleck
Stephan Aleck
Maria Anna Julia Aleck
Franziska Aleck
Johann Adam Aleck

Laurentius (Lorenz) Aleck married Agatha Schill they had 8 children all born in Germany:

Maria Anna Aleck
Joseph Aleck
Franz George Aleck (came to America and died 29 Dec 1899 in Camden, New Jersey)
Therese Aleck
Franziska Aleck
Xaver Aleck (my line, Xaver came to America and settled in Iowa and died 28 Jun 1903 in Logan, Harrison, Iowa)

Xaver Aleck married Christiane Friedericka Geiger they had 12 children: their 3rd child John Xaver Aleck married Mary Ann Birks and they had 5 children. Their oldest daughter was my grandmother Hazel Kathryn Aleck Wall b. 13 Dec 1894 in Logan, Harrison, Iowa and d 17 April 1982 in Park Rapids, Hubbard, Minnesota.

I do have a History of the Alecks that dates to Joannes Marting Alligue (Allig) that a relative put together many years ago and I have tried off and on over the past 20 years to try and find the parents. The history starts out with an Intro to the Pre-American History with a Hans Alig of Ubersax, 1499, then to a Martin Alig, Citizen of Lumbrein, Graubunden, Switzerland, then to a Gaudenz Alig, and then a space with no name, then moves to Johann Alig, born 1630, married Dorothea Leonhard, then moves to Leonhard Alig born November 1665. It states these men all lived in the Canton of Graubunden, Switzerland. Before 1800, all Swiss citizens having the Alig surname were residing in the Canton of Graubunden-in Lumbrein, Vrin, Tersnaus, Obersaxen, and Panix. It is assumed that the Alig fmaily of Riegel, Baden, Germany descended from these men.

This history states also that the Alig name is not a Roman family name, but developed from the German nickname Aliko or Albert. I am not sure if this is correct or not.

I have all dates, places, etc. of all the people that I named above. The only thing that I have not been able to do yet is to verify with original documents if the dates and places are totally correct.

The names in your post match exactly to mine so I can say that yes we must be related. Do you have any information at all on any of the Alecks? Even those dating back to Switzerland? I still have blanks to fill in as I am sure you do also.

Please feel free to contact me via e-mail and maybe we can help each other out. genealogybug04@yahoo.com is the e-mail I use for my genealogy work. My name is Deborah Becker and I live in Minnesota. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

They may be related to my Aleck family, but I do not find them in our direct line. It goes back to Johan Alig b. abt 1630 in Switzerland, then to Joannes Martin Allig, b abt 1670 and wife Verna Ziegler, then Joseph Allig born 31 January 1710 in Reigel, Germany, then Michael Aleck b. 1751 in Riegel and wife Franziska Steiger; then Lorenz Aleck b. 1785 and wife Agatha Schill, Riegel, Germany, then to Xaver Aleck b. 1828 in Riegel and wife Christiane Geiger who both came to America.

Hi, I finally got into your Alig website. I see we are not related after all unless its from a branch off one of the children. Our family crest is simlar except it is described as follows: Arms: In a red shield on a green castel, a silver bird with wings spread, a silver fish in it's beak. Crest: same as shield. Mantle: red and sivle, same as shield color. Granted to: Alig, Martin --25 Fr. Citizen of Lumbrein. Authority source: Court of Justice in Trun; Cup in Monastery of Dissentis, 1757; and Tomb in the St. Martin Church in Ilanz. In Switerland any Swiss individual has a right to use arms, whether inherited or personally assumed. I have a color picture of the Alig Coat of Arms. The bird on top is different from the one that shows on your website. When information is passed from one generation to another it is hard to prove where that source came from. It would be very interesting to see if our lines do match up somehow from its beginnings.

What a neat story! Thanks for sharing it. I am sure there are records still out there. I have bought some from time to time from individuals. My suggestion is to contact the Indianapolis Historical Society. I know they have a lot of information on the Parry Companies.[Parry Mfg., Parry Buggy, Overland Auto 1906-1908, Parry Auto 1908-191, Motor Car Mfg Co., Pathfinder 1911-1917,and Parry Truck Bodies] The Parry brothers started in the mid 1880 making buggies in Rushville, IN. There were 4 brother; David, Thomas, Edward and St. Clair. David is the most well know.

If you are interest in more history email me at: resa@omnipages.com

Re: Parry Buggy Co and Parry Bros. of IN

I have a Parry Buggy Company oak octagonal clock that was my grandfather's, Newton Joseph Rabensburg. He had it in his possession in his saddle and leather goods stores located in several towns within the central Texas region including La Grange, Llano and Austin. My family inherited his clock when he died in 1961. The clock is still in operation and located in my home in La Grange, Texas. Since the clock was manufactured about the time of his birth (1889), he probably acquired it from another store that was in La Grange, Texas. He began his apprenticeship in La Grange about 1907 and probably worked for one or more of the local leather shops. These shops all sold buggies. My grandfather left La Grange some time after 1910 and worked in New Mexico, Utah and Montana. He returned to La Grange, Texas to marry in 1915 and bought into an existing leather/saddle shop previously owned by his wife's uncle, Louis Walter. The clock may have come from the Louis Walter Store. However, newspaper accounts also say my grandfather acquired the existing inventory of another like-business in La Grange that closed its operations. Therefore, the clock could have come from that other business. My grandfather was in partnerhip with another gentleman, and they called their store located on the town square, Rabensburg and Zweiner. I would like to know if Parry Buggy Company kept records of stores throughout the United States that sold Parry buggies and if any of these records still exist.

Sincerely,

A. Neale Rabensburg
979-702-0525

Her siblings were Abraham, Margaret and Christian (possibly others as well).

Do you have any information?

As I indicated I do not directly decend from the Alig line I descend from the Wissel/Weasel Line.

I would be happy to share the information that I have.

I have a record showing Johannes Alig born Feb. 15, 1805, married Susanne Heil (born April 13, 1812). Their last address (before leaving for USA) was Mensengesãß 05. They emigrated to USA June 3, 1846 with children: Peter, Gertrud, Konrad, Eva, and Johannes. It also lists that Johannes (born 1805) parents were Joh. George Alig and Anna Maria Oster. Traveling at the same time was Gertrud Alig born October 19, 1824,last address before emigrating was Mensengesãß 05.

I believe this is the only info I have at this time, but do let me know if this was helpful info.

Hi Edith,
I have the Alig Crest on my web page and a picture of our (Sue Alig's & mine) great grandfather. My web pages only have my direct line on them but I have 4-2" binders full of information on our American and Swiss Aligs. Yes, we are from Obersaxon, Affeier to be exact. My great grandfather build a hotel therein Affeier which is still in the family. I have many pictures of most of the family and lots of history as does Sue. I am still part of the family trust "Home Stove" and keep in touch with the family of which most of them live in Indianapolis, Indiana. I live in California.

My web page address is: www.omnipages.com/alig

you can contact me directly by email at:
resa@omnipages.com

I'd love to hear from you. Where do you live?
Best,
Resa
Alig's - IN

Re: Alig's-IN The only Philip Alig I show on my family tree was born in 1985. We are decendants of Johann George Alig from Switzerland. I even checked to see if I had a Philip born at that time with the middle name being "Philip" and found none born in the 1800's. Our great grandfather was born in Switzerland in 1852.
