Captain Harry Alison

Gosh, I hope some of you are still out there, I think I might have stumbled over my brickwall. My Massy's have been a mystery to the family. I have a 3rd great grandfather who was a thoroughly unreliable informant but he went by Henry or Harry R Massy at the time he married my grandmother Augusta Cory and later as Harry or Henry R Allison, and I just found a mention of a Rothwell as an unspecified relative mentioned in his brother John's probate record. They lived at one time in Detroit with Jane Massy (listed in directories as the widow of Hugh) and Richard. In his pension file he mentions coming from Limerick and settling in Ontario before coming to the States and that his mother went back to visit family in Canada and died there.

Anyway, I suspect I am a descendant of Jane Alison and Hugh Massy and I would love information on the Alison family.

Thanks,

Jessica

im looking for anyone with information on my grandmothers grandfather Alexander Fraser Victor Alison b. 21 June 1857 Dysart, Fife, Scotland. He married Janet Fraser (b. 29 September 1857 Dysart, Fife) on 10 Aug 1880 Dysart, Fife. They had 4 children. 2 Boys Alexander (Sandy) and William (Willie) who we think were born in Ireland ( Alexander in Dragheda, County Meath), and 2 girls Elizabeth (Bessie) and Margaret (Maggie) who we think were born in Scotland. We think Alexander was in the Merchant Navy. Alexander Fraser Victor Alison owned three farms in the Dysart/Kirkaldy area, one was called Wester Balbeggie.
Alexander (Sandy) Alison is my grandmothers father, he married Beatrice Syme Fraser (b. 10 March 1887 Dysart, Fife) in 1918.
(My grandmothers parents are cousins)

Israel Alison - Pike Co., AL (Lost headstone found?)

My husband and I were in Pike Co Alabama today photographing the headstones in Carter Cemetery when I noticed a headstone in the woods outside the fence. Jeff went around the fence, cleaned the muck away from it and got a picture of the stone.

http://www.paradoxdesigns.com/celtic/img/Alison_Israel.jpg

I have a copy of the survey of this cemetery that was done in 1971 and it doesn't list this Alison, nor are there any other Alisons in the cemetery. I am not related to any Alison as far as I know but thought someone might be looking for this person. I'll leave the image up on my webspace for future searches here. If you are on the mailing list and want more information on this cemetery please email me as I'm not on the list myself.

Kat Reece
kat@hallofmaat.com

Does anyone have a Mary ALISON c. 1739? This is probably about the time she married - d.o.b not known. Other names which appear on descendants tree are NOBLE, JAMES, FOSTER,SNEDDON, HURLY. Items belonging to Mary Alison have been inherited eldest daughter to eldest daughter.
It would appear that Mary ALISON was Esther Mary NOBLES Grandmother and Alison may not have been her married name. Can anyone help? There appears to be a generation missing between Mary and Esther Mary NOBLE on dates known for others listed. Will welcome any help at all with this one. Thanks in anticipation.
My great Aunt Jeannie was born 26th September 1871 in Dundee Scotland. As a young woman she went to Rio to nurse. She returned a rich widow(?) having supposedly married Mr Massey of Massey Ferguson. This is not actually true since his wife outlived him, but she certainly came back rich enough to marry again, support her next husband and launch three daughters into English society. So far I have been unable to find any records of her marriage(s).

Any information welcome

Ida Cordelia Alison

I know little about this lady, but she was my great-grandmother. She was probably born sometime around 1860, where I don't know.

She married William H. Diehl. They lived in South Dakota in 1884 when my grandfather was born (according to his obituary). His name was Carl William. They also had a daugher, Cora.

In 1910 or so Ida and William were living somewhere in Alabama. My father, their grandson, lived with them there. During that period, William died on a Thanksgiving Day, year unknown. Ida later came to Illinois, I believe, because both of her children lived here.

Carl married Edith Strand and they had a son, Charles Henderson. Cora married a man named Hawes. He owned the Chicago Blind Co. and they were quite well off - built a home in Chicago Heights named Haweswood. Still stands and the street is named Haweswood.

Carl later married Leta Carroll and lived in Marshall County, IL where he was a newspaper editor - his wife's father owned the paper first.

I'm just starting on this line, so if anyone has any clues I'd be happy to hear from them.
