Hello! I am researching my grandfather, Amerigo Andrea Agosto, b. 11/29/02 "on the boat" , d. 1964 in Chicago, Illinois. He was married to Clara May Young ca. 1935 and they had a restaurant called the Marco Polo Inn.
I understand that his mother was an Allegretti, who married Mr. Agosto and stayed mostly in Molfetta with her (3) daughters while her husband and (3) sons managed an olive oil exporting business to Chicago/America.
She is reported to have been a mid-wife and good with herbs/natural remedies. I understand that she served as a midwife to the wives of the workers on the olive oil / tree estate that they owned (maybe my mom exagerated!).
I don't know much more. She was likely born around 1860 in Italy and died in the Molfetta area.
I have also heard that her family founded a bank in Chicago ... and an ice-cream parlor as well ?!??!?!?
Does any of this sound familiar?
Grazie,
Ameriga
