Hi, I am responding to your 2000 email to the ancestry.com board.
I may have info . . . its a VERRRRYYY long shot. I was just hoping your James J. Allen was my Jessie J. Allen, with the names twisted.
My family history is very sketchy on the Allens prior to my Grandpa, Rufus Lee Allen. I cannot find anything about them; no birth, marriage, death records, probably because they were sooooo poor.
My maternal grandfather, Rufus Lee Allen (DOB 5/13/1887 Conroe, TX), his older brother Frank, two-year old brother Jessie J. & sister Mary, were all parceled out to relatives and strangers to raise etc. in the late 1880's in Texas when their mother died in childbirth, as did the new baby later of nothing to eat. The youngest child, Jessie J. Allen was 2 years old.
Their father's name was either Rufus Allen, Billy Allen, R. B. Allen, or William Billy Allen. He went by Billy. He married Molly Gossett of Conroe or Houston, Texas.
According to my Aunt Cleora (96 yoa and very clear minded) Jessie J. Allen was given to a family (name unknown)and raised in Texas. He worked at the penitentiary in Houston many years.
Are you out there still?
