February 4, 1873, Augusta Chronicle, page 3: DEATH OF JUDGE ROBERT A. ALLEN: Death has again invaded the ranks of our prominent and universally esteemed citizens, and borne away JUDGE ROBERT ANDERSON ALLEN, who died at his residence in this city on Sunday afternoon last, in the 66th year of his age. Judge Allen was a native of Richmond County, and was for several terms honored with the confidence of his fellow citizens in being chosen to represent them in the State Legislature with such illustrious colleagues as Hon. Charles J. Jenkins and Andrew J. Miller, a duty which he discharged with honor to his fidelity and ability, and with satisfaction to his constituency. He was, after his withdrawal from active political life, for more than twenty years a merchant in Savannah, in which avocation he attained high estate in the confidence and esteem of a wide circle of friends. He but recently became a resident of Augusta. His funeral services takes place this morning, at 10 ½ o'clock, form St. John's (M.E. Church.)

January 7, 1875, Augusta Chronicle: RAVENSWOOD: This delightful and well known country residence, near ALLEN'S STATION, Augusta and Savannah Railroad, and belonging to the estate of the late ROBERT A. ALLEN, including the plantation - some 2500 acres upland and river bottom, with ample improvements, water power, etc., - is offered for sale or exchange. The land may be sold in tracts to suit. Particulars obtained and maps seen at office of John J. Cohen & Sons, Bankers and Real Estate Agents, Augusta, GA.

Robert married (1) (first wife). [Others say she was Priscilla M. Wood]

They had the following children:

+ 3 M i. Robert E. ALLEN was born about 1830.
4 F ii. Cornelia ALLEN. Married Edward W. HULL and had 4 sons; all buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Augusta, GA.
5 F iii. Harriet ALLEN.

Robert also married (2) Caroline Griffing EDWARDS on Jan 1838. Caroline was born about 1806 in Pennsylvania. She died 10 Jan 1891 in East Point, Georgia and was buried 11 Jan 1891 in Magnolia Cemetery- Augusta, GA.

Caroline Griffing Edwards, born 9 Nov., 1806, daughter of Capt. James and Elizabeth (Griffing) Edwards (216), married, Oct., 1829, in Athens, Ga., Benjamin G. Walker, Esq., of Burke Co., Ga., and settled on a cotton plantation near Tallahassee, Florida. Mr. Walker soon after lost his health, and returning to his old home died there, 1834. Mrs. Walker married, Jany., 1838, Robert Anderson Allen, born Sept., 1807 (son of Rev. Robert Allen of Columbia Co., Ga., of Scotch descent), and settled in the family homestead (Ravenswood) on a large plantation on the Savannah road, ten miles below the city of Augusta. Mr. Allen was a widower with three children, two sons, and a daughter two and a half years old. Mr. Allen represented Richmond County several times in the State legislature, and was for several years associate on the County Court Bench in Augusta. In 1840 he removed to Savannah and embarked in mercantile life, and for twenty years led an active and successful career in that line. Retiring from business on the eve of the civil war, he returned to his Ravenswood home, but survived the change but a few years. Symptoms of organic heart disease appeared early in 1872, and, after eleven months of great suffering, he died Sunday, 2 Feby., 1873, surrounded by wife, children and grandchildren, whose choicest heritage is the memory of his noble example and unblemished life.

Sunday, January 25, 1891, Augusta Chronicle: IN MEMORIUM: Died, at East Point, GA, January 10, 1891, in her 85th year, Mrs. CAROLINE G. ALLEN, relict of R.A. Allen, and for many years a resident of Richmond County. This lady, nee Miss CAROLINE EDWARDS of New Jersey, was twice married, first to Benjamin Walker, and then to R.A. Allen. Her life after marriage was a happy and harmonious blending of northern vigor of soul and body and southern warmth and strength. Her intellect (one of the brightest in women) and grace and tact, rounded off the sturdy, practical and business sense of a noble-hearted husband, and their home at Ravenwood was the seat of cultivation and hospitality. Her Christian character impressed itself upon the hearts and lives of orphans and strangers, who will remember with gratitude her "action of the just." She now sleeps beside her husband under the sweep of the southern willow, in southern soil, that she loved so long and well, where may the Angel of Peace, and Joy, and Quiet, hover lovingly till the loves of earth are lost in the glories of heave. BODY OF FORMER AUGUSTAN FOUND: WARD ALLEN Drowned in River near Savannah; Services Planned Here. The body of WARD ALLEN, well-known and prominently connected in Augusta, was recovered from the waters of the Back River, a branch of the Savannah River, about one and half miles from Savannah yesterday afternoon at 6 o'clock. He had been missing since Sunday. The Chronicle learned over long distance telephone last night. Mr. ALLEN, who was 75 years of age, had been living near Savannah for the past 30 years, going there from Augusta. A lover of hunting and fishing, he had been living on a houseboat, journeying every day to Savannah from Pennyworth Island, where the boat was moored. The pajama-clad body was found about 500 years from the houseboat by friends who had gone to the boat, apprehensive for his welfare when he did not come to town as was his custom in his outboard motorboat. They visited the houseboat Tuesday, and found that a dog he had been keeping was hungry. His clothes were undisturbed. They immediately began a search of the waters near the boat, which continued through the night until the body was found yesterday afternoon. No inquest will be held, a verdict of accidental drowning being made by the coroner. Mr. Allen was known throughout the State as a lover of dogs. The last of his famous Chesapeake Bay retrievers, "Keno," died last April. He was well-known in Savannah as a critic of plays and literature. The body will be brought to Augusta, and funeral services will be conducted as the graveside in Magnolia Cemetery tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. John Wright officiating. He is survived by a cousin, HOPE HULL of Beaufort, S.C.
