Hi Dave my Grandfather was trained at Grove Park ASC, DM2 on the Medal card, trained at the barracks in Woolwich London. He was then sent out to Cairo to serve under General Murray 1917 and then as a Chauffeur to Viscount Field Marshall General Edmund Allenby at GCHQ. The problems being that his records were destroyed in the second world war and there seems to be very little information out there on the GCHQ. So if you know of anybody that served at the GCHQ I would be more than interested. Going back to your problems, I sent to the National Archives to get the Medal roll for my Grandfather this pinpointed where he did his training its on the bottom left hand side. Also if one of his colleagues has a silver war badge the Badge Roll can be find on the Ancestry Deluxe package and will give you some more clues. The technique which works on occassions is to find out what happened to the soldiers he served with, if you can it just might give you that bit of a clue which takes you where you need to go. Also if you want the Secret War Diaries go to Wickapedia Viscount Edmund Allenby, front page find Egyptian Expeditionary Force click on it the page it takes you to go right to the bottom and then back up slightly till you reach an Australian reference you will find them there. Hope this helps Thanks Ian Wayman
