ALLENDER - HOLLAND family intersection, Baltimore County, MD

I'm looking for family records of George M. HOLLAND and wife, Bridget (DEVINE) HOLLAND, AKA Mary Bridget DEVINE. They had two daughters who married ALLENDER brothers.

George and Bridget were married by Father James DOLAN on 13 August 1853 in Baltimore city (exact location unknown).

George and Bridget had children: Araminta (HOLLAND) ALLENDER; Carrie, AKA Clara (HOLLAND) ALLENDER; Carville W. HOLLAND; Mary HOLLAND. All of the children were likely born in Baltimore city between 1854 and 1863.

George and Bridget and their family lived in Baltimore city until some years before the 1870 census. There is some evidence that George HOLLAND and family lived in or near Govanstown (now northern Baltimore city) in 1860.
By 1870, George HOLLAND and family was established in a home near the intersection of Fork and Bottom Roads, east of Baldwin, MD.

Family records indicate that George HOLLAND died in 1884 and that Bridget (DEVINE) HOLLAND died in December 1894. They likely are buried in St John's catholic cemetery in Long Green / Hydes, MD where they likely were part of the parish.

If you have or know someone who has family records of George and Bridget Holland or their daughters Araminta and Clara, I'd like to share info.
I do have some records of Araminta and Clara already, but would appreciate photos or pertinent records

Thanks, Joe Holland

Hi, I am also descended from Urias Allender and have quite a lot of information from a book titled Calcutta by Marjorie Tipping. It details his time on the Calcutta and Tasmania. I have visited the Sorrento Historical Society where there is a miniature replica of the boat he help row from Sorrento to Bateman's Bay, en route to Sydney. I'd like to learn more ...

I am looking for information on an Allender family that would have been in the Ohio area around 1940's and before. They had serveral children and put some up for adoption. It is my understanding an Aunt with the last name of Maynard adopted one of the girls. This would have been in the 1940's time frame. Would appreciate any help or pointers.

I have George Allender, father of Dennis and John L, as son of Jacob and Christina as shown by the 1850 census for Morgan County Virginia, and the close fit of records in that line. Jacob is son of William and Crestine of the Moveables Plantation, a line that does not show a connection to the MD Allenders. I have not found much new on the MD Allenders. Most of my sites are public and I am happy to share directly as well.

I also have lots of information pertaining to the Maryland Allenders, as I am the grandson of Howard Allender, the last direct male descendant of the Maryland Allenders tied to the original Allender Farm in Maryland. I have been providing almost the entirety of my documents and knowledge to the Allender Family website run by Kristina, one of the frequent posters in this thread. And I am more than happy to share my information directly with anyone interested, as well as learn any new information that may fill gaps.

I have found that Sarah Brandt was the incorrect name for Augusta and Edna's mother. On their marriage license John M. Allender's bride was Sarah Boroughs. I still haven't found out when Sarah died but it must have been between 1875 snd 1880.
I went to Union Co. but death records/birth records don't go back that far.
I have found out a lot about John M. Allender from the military records and saw his burial place at the National Military cemetery in Dayton, OH. You can see it on Findagrave.com.
Have you found out anything else about Edna's origins?
Jeanne almamagis@fuse.net

Allender Reunion Rush county and Willis book

Came across these articles while researching Arizona McMullen, who married Oliver Chester Allender. Evidently this reunion was an annual event. Posting in case it might be of use to someone.

Daily Republican The
11 May 1912 p 1
Rushville Indiana
PREPARES HISTORY ALLENDER FAMILY
Mrs. E. A. Willis Hopes to Arrange For Reunion at or Near Arlington This Summer
First Settled Here In 1862
Mrs. E. A. Willis of Bluffton, Ind.,is engaged in arranging a history of the Allender family. Mrs. Willis is the youngest daughter of Garland S. Allender, who many older Rush county people well remember. It is their purpose to have an Allender reunion at or near Arlington some time the latter part of August or the first of September. Strenuous efforts are being made to get the history ready for the printer by that time. This book will contain the names, dates of birth, dates of death, and to whom married of all the descendants of George Allender, Sr., who with his family came from Kentucky in 1926 and settled two miles west of Arlington.
Mr. Allender had fourteen children and ninety nine grandchildren. Mrs. Willis says she has already found relatives as far west as Seattle, as far north as Minnesota and as far east as Washington D. C. "And as I have only just begun no one knows where I will get to before I finish." she says. She has prepared a ledger and is keeping date of each letter she sends out and of reply to same. Indications so far point to prompt replies to letters.

Daily Republican The
2 Sep 1912 p 4
Rushville Indiana
The Allender family reunion will be held in the Christian church at Arlington Tuesday, September 3. A basket dinner, speeches, music, readings and a general good time will be
the order of the day. An earnest endeaver has been made to notify every one whose address is known. If you have been missed this is your invitation.
E. A. WILLIS,
Acting Secretary

Daily Republican, The
9 Sep 1912 p 5
Rushville Indiana
The Allender family met in their first reunion at Arlington Tuesday September 3. More than two hundred were present, many of whom had never met before. That it was a most enjoyable time goes without saying, yet with it all there was an undercurrent of sadness at the thought of the many who have passed to the great beyond. The forenoon was spent in getting acquainted, and renewing old acquaintances. At noon a feast of good things was partaken of after which a short program was rendered and an organization was effected by electing Morton Allender president; Mrs. Nora Offutt, vice-president; Lesner H. Allender, secretary and Mrs. Mattie Hufford, treasurer.
George Allender Sr., came from Fleming county Ky., in 1826 and settled on a farm two miles west of Arlington, where he resided until his death in 1852. After his death, Garland B., his youngest soncame into possession of the farm and resided there until his death in 1878. The main body of the big house erected by George Allender, Sr., in 1826, is still standing.
George Allender was born July 1, 1772. Elizabeth (Overly) his wife was born September 6, 1778. There was born to this couple ten girls and four boys. These children have all passed away. Mrs. E. A. Willis of Bluffton, Ind., is compiling a genealogical record of the family, and she reports she already has a record of more than 1000 names of descendants and there are yet several to hear from. The grandchildren present Tuesday were: John A Eaton, James H Allender, Mrs. Sophronia Brown, Mrs. Lizzie Nelson of Arlington, Phebe Moss, Gwynneville, Nancy J. McDaniel, Argola Ill; Frank Zornes, Carthage; Stephen Laden, Anderson; Mary J. Kennett, Walla Walla, Wash.; Wm. H. Allender, Axtell, Kan.; Mrs. Narcissa Gates, Carthage; Mrs. E. A. Willis, Bluffton; G. W. Parish, Shelbyville, and Mrs. Sarah C. Schumaker, Fortville.

Daily Republican The
7 Sep 1920 p 6
Rushville Indiana
The ninth Allender reunion was held Sunday at the Allender homestead two miles west of Arlington. About one hundred and sixty relatives were present. A short program, was given in the afternoon, which
included talks by A. L. Gary of this city, Carl Shank of Indianapolis and Mrs. E. A. Willis of Bluffton. The officers for next year are Morton Allender, president; Cicero Linville; vice-president; Mrs. Virgil Junken, secretary-treasurer;- Cicero Linville, Frank McDaniel and Jesse Nelson, committeemen
It has been almost three years since this thread began.
I was looking for roots of Augusta Allender. I haven't found her mother Sarah Brandt according to her death certificate. But her father John M. Allender has left a trail. He was in the civil war (57th IN infantry) and in and out of Disabled Veterans' Homes and married twice after Augusta's mother. He died at the Veterans' Home in Dayton, OH in 1919 and is buried in the National Cemetery there. We went there last weekend and found the grave. See Findagrave.com where I posted pictures.
Augusta was living in Dayton, OH by the 1910 census and married Hugh Walsh by the 1920 census. They are also buried in Dayton. Before Dayton she can be found in Richmond, IN and if she was grandpa's mother that would be in Cincinnati in 1891
I have found on a family tree on Ancestry that John's parents were Robert and Hannah Grove Allender who brought her family to IN from PA.
On the 1880 census Hannah still has some children at home and two grandsons, William and Harry. I wonder if they could also be John and Sarah's children along with Edna Ruth and Augusta.
I hope to hear back from you at almamagis@fuse.net
Jeanne

There is a marriage to Largent in your line and in the line of Allenders from Virginia (some of whom lived on Moveables plantation -hence the name) --I have not had any success on the Largent connection, but have not worked on it lately either. I took off the pics --they were not meant to be there. If you know anything on the Largent family or those two marriages it might help to make a connection. alice

So pleased to have an England Allender to place a message on this post. I have a great amount of difficulty of getting further back than my own Grandfather JOHN WILLIAM ALLENDER. I think John William's father was THOMAS ALLENDER and Thomas's father was JAMES ALLENDER. James was born 1783 in Maryland. James owned a sawmill in Hampshire Co., West Virginia. He was married to Sarah Alderton. Their children were George Washington, Thomas, Sara Elizabeth, Jacob and the Rev. James Allender I have a few dates, too.

Hi, tracing part of my husband's lineage via Valentine Allender who married Sarah Hughes (we think). Through this line of research, Valentine's parents were(1850 census) Jacob Allender and Polly ? they had Henry, Polly, Valentine (3/1836), Francis and Marian (translates to Maryanne in the 1860 PA Census and Polly becomes Maria). 1860 Census Valentine is married to Sarah Hughes (NJ) had one child Anna born 1858 or 1859. I believe died young. They are living in the father's house in Salisbury, Lehigh County, PA with son Jacob age 9 until some time in the 1870's as they live in the 1880's in Philadelphia, PA with Sarah's brother William Hughes/Hughs. Through the various Census' Millers can be found too. Allentown, PA is another location. Any of this info familiar or a connection?

JOHN ALLENDER, b. 1769 Ireland - What County?

Just beginning my Allender research. Appreciate all the resources on this line. Question 1: Has anyone yet discovered which County in Ireland John Allender, b. 1769, came from? He immigrated in April 1796 with first wife, who had child onboard ship, son William Alexander Allender. Question 2: Does anyone know what port they came into? I'm not finding any immigration information. Many thanks, Mary
