I do believe this is the James A. Allen listed in the 1850 census for Pickens County, Alabama. His father, William H. Allen born 1810, Tenn. his mother Susan [Susannah] Wilkins Allen. Living with them is James A.'s grandmother Nancy[Hamrick] Wilkins. A very good candidate for William H. Allen's father is James Allen also listed in the Pickens County, Alabama 1850 census b. 1788, NC. William H. and James entered land in Pickens County side by side according to the blm glo records.
