Herman D. Allert biography

Langdon ND Centennial Edition 1888-1988 page 220
HERMAN D. ALLERT
Herman D. Allert born 1858 in Elbing, Prussia and came to Ontario at age 11. Six years later he went to Winnipeg where he raised stock and sold machinery. He was married in 1882 to Lottie McWilliams and shortly after they homesteaded along Snowflake Creek in Dresden Township.

Ellerton Post Pffice near their farm was originally intended to be Allerton. Mr Allert was elected County Superintendent of Schools at the first election in 1884 and filled that post until 1888 when he became County Auditor. The family moved to Langdon and he continued at the courthouse until 1897 when he opened the Allert Drug Store. He was also a partner in the Allert and Winter Real Estate business. For a time the Langdon Library was located in the Allert Drug Store.

The five Allert children were: Vera, Cleveland, Lenore, Vivian and Daisy. Cleveland died at age five and his father built the unique fence which surrounds the old portion of Lebanon Cemetery in his honor.

Vera married Edward reilly, pharmacist at the Dresden Drug Store. After his death she married Sam Little.

Lenore was one of four in the first class to graduate fra Langdon High School. She married Fred Smith.

Vivian married her former teacher, Dan J. Ridlington, and after his death she married a Langdon classmate, M.C. Mitchell of California.

Mrs Daisy Alexander also lived in California. The Allert home, one of the most impressive in Langdon, is now the home of Dr and Mrs Goodliffe.

~~Volunteer Posting~~

Re JOHN ALLERT/SARAH DUTTON from England

John Allert buried in Victoria, Australia was married to Sarah Dutton. It now seems as tho he may have come to Australia sometime between 1851 and 1861and married in Aus. His parents are listed as Ralph and Mary but there are parents of a Sarah Dutton who were Ralph and Mary. From UK census I am guessing he may have come from the Lancashire/Cheshire area. Does anyone have any info?

Allerts before 1800

At least 3 Allert households departed from West Prussia to Russia in the mid 1850s

Karl Stumpp's wellknown Germans to Russia immigration book shows:

1. Heinrich Allert of Stobbendorf, Grosse Werder, left for Taurien region (part of today's Ukraine) in 1846 - no further details

2. Maria Allert, b 26 Oct 1793 of Pietzkendorf, Grosse Werder, left for Taurien in 1846 with her two children:
- Cornelius (b 16 Mar 1821)
- Heinrich (b 13 Aug 1823)

3. Heinrich Allert, b 13 Aug 1823 of Orlofferfeld, Grosse Werder, left for Taurien in 1945.

In all likelihood these three households were related. #2 and #3 also appear in the parallel Mennonite work by BH Unruh (1955).

Am not kin to these folks - but am doing some basic research for a client who would be interested in communicating further.
