Dear Jane,

I believe your Uncle Robert H. Alles appears as a boy in a small, framed, labeled family photo I have of my ancestors, the Hope family- and collateral relatives. Robert H. Alles was somehow connected to Charles E. Hope (1842-1928) , who lived on S. Van Dien Avenue in Ridgewood, NJ. At one point, Robert seemed to have the same address as Charles. Perhaps he was a descendant of Charles, or perhaps a close friend of the family. Maybe you know? Charles was my GGGrandmother's (Carrie Hope Roberts) brother. From some things I found on Google Books or Scholar, I think that Robert taught at the City College of New York.
