I'm interested in your Alles bible entry, as I have been looking for a connection to my Great Uncle Robert H. Alles. I believe he lived in Ridgewood, NJ in the 1880's. I know very little more about him except that I think he taught English at NYU in the 20's. He married Esther P.C. Dolson, and they lived in NYC. I do know that he had a sister, Jane, who lived in Philadelphia and wrote a history of the Philadelphia Country Club.
I'd like to find out more about Uncle Bob !

ALLES Bible, 1818-1889, Germany, NJ

This is a Bible in my possession. It has not appeared at my
site before now, because important information is in old German and not transcribable by me. I finally gave it my best shot, and here it is. The scanned pages are at Bible Records Online, URL below.

Tracy St. Claire
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Die Bibel oder Die Ganze Heilige Schrift des Alten und
Neuen Teftaments, New York, ABS, 1882.

The Bible is in fair condition. The original binding is
there, but the spine badly torn and the front cover is off.
The pages all appear intact and in good condition.

I cannot transcribe all of the entries because they are in
German. Please see the scans to get the entire family
record. And, if you have these skills, please consider
transcribing and/or translating it for the site.

I think this is the John Alles and Phelepeona Alles that are
found in the US 1880 census for Raritan, Hunterdon County,
NJ.

There is a scrap of a miniature prayerbook? Bible? and some
pressed flowers in this Bible.

Transcribed by and in the possession of Tracy St. Claire,
aaf@ais.net.

SURNAMES:
ALLES

-----------------TRANSCRIPT STARTS-----------------

[Page One -- Front Flyleaf]

To Mrs. Alles
from Mrs. Allen
Christmas 1882

[Page Two -- Last Page of Maleachi, opposite family records.
There is a lot more here. I admit to not having done much on the genealogy front for a number of months now.
My husband is a descendant of Jacob and Catherine (Hahn) Alles from Dubois county. We are working hard on a hisotry of their son, Captain John Jacob Alles, who fought in the Civil War. We know of Michael and Catherine, but do not have much information on the rest of his brothers and sisters. There are supposed to be 10 children, but we only have the five who are listed on the ship's passenger list. Can you give us any help? also, do you know anything about the locations of the Captain's sword, uniform, etc? We are making a display for the local museum and would like to find as much of his memorabilia as possible to add to the display. The items would be loaned to the museum.

I was born Barbara Anna Alles, in Stratford Ont. My father was Henry Conrad Alles, son of George Henry Alles. We stem from Valentine Alles (mother Anna Margaretha Alles) who settled near Tavistock in the early 1840's. Is it possible we are related?
I have a contact in California who grew up in the Kitchener Waterloo area, last name Alles. I find it totally strange that we lived so close yet knew nothing of this other line of Alles'. He descended from Konrad Alles who settled near Erbsville in 1842. I'm curious to find a connection with this group of Alles', and my family.
Also I am trying to research an inherited talent for art and creativity within the Alles line. I'd appreciate any info you would care to share with me. Thanks..
