Hi,
I know my grandmother was Edith Alleyne, born in Britain. Both her father and grandfather were Robert Henry Alleyne. If I'm putting it together correctly, her grandfather lived in Barbados and her father returned there and possibly left soon after for the US. Anyone related to Robert Henry Alleyne?

I have replied to another man who is connected to the Alleyne's, I took some photos of the graves in Butlerstown Cemetry, Waterford of Samuel Alleyne 1834-1911 who fought in the American Civil War and the grave of his son who was also called Samuel. If you send me on your email address I will forward them to you.

I have been trying to locate your aunt Myrtlene who was a good friend of mine. We kept in touch for many year after I migrated to england with my parents over 40 years ago. We went to school together and the last contact I had with her was just after her marriage when she moved I believe to the west bank of Demerara. I believe the rest of the family was still living at the Trinity manse. I was very saddened to learn through the facebook obituaries of the passing of not only your grand parents, but also your uncle Trevor. I would be most grateful if you would pass on my e-mail address to your aynt myrtlene and tell her I would love to make contact with her .

Apparently, about five generations ago, a John Alleyne (also seen as Allen on a source document) gave birth to Elizabeth (born 1837) who married John Hamilton Barrow (born 1836). I cannot seem to find any details on his father, Samuel Barrow; regarding birth, death, marriage etc. His wife’s name is not listed.

Are you able to help me?
I will take some pictures of the headstones, one is more legible than the other and strangely it is the oldest one belonging to Samuel that went to America. Give me a few days and I will get back to you.

regards, David

Hi,
I've been working on the Alleyne family in Ireland lately... the family of Samuel Alleyne of Waterford hailed from Tipperary originally. If you google it you'll find lots of info posted be other people.... Samuel senior was born abt 1832 and eventually fled creditors of their large estate (Coolprevane, near Golden TIPP) to the US, where he fought in the US Civil War before returning to Ireland and eventually settling in Ireland (I'm still trying to get all this stuff together).
I'd be interested in hearing about the family in Waterford... do you have photos of the headstones?
I'm descended from Samuel ALLEYNE (a cousin or second cousin of your Samuel) who came to NSW abt 1840.
cheers,
matt

here I am in 2010. and I too would like to know the history of my name. Trying to back track to lines actually, Alleyne and Winchester. I'm curious about this for a number of reasons. there were apparently two Alleyne groups in Trinidad where my father is from so who came from where would be interesting. Also I have the interesting combination of both sickle cell trait and thalisimia trail, the latter usually coming from the Mediterranean. So I'd like to know who passed that one along lol. Born and raised NYer, parents from Trinidad(father) and Tobago(mother). Charles Alleyne is as far back as I've gotten as a grandfather.

Alleyne's and Allens

Greetings Alleyn's! My name is William Bernard Allen and myself along with about 20 other Allen descendant's have created a project to consolidate our Allen family trees. We have a proper web page coming up any day now, but I put together this blog to give a high level over view of the project. We believe our family descends from Dr. Richard Alleyn.

"Dr. Richard Alleyn was the rector at St. Mildred's, Canterbury, England form 1601 to 1637. He then was rector at Stowting, Kent, England from 1637 to 1651"

Now I know one of his sons went to Barbados and many of his offspring still live there. So, if you have taken a DNA test or believe you descend from this branch of Alleyn tree, contact me at salabencher@gmail.com

I look forward to hearing from you!

http://alleni2a1patrilineageproject.blogspot.com/

I have come across these Alleynes of Golden, Co. Tipperary in my own researchs.
Here is what I know of them :
Samuel Alleyne of Golden to Charity Pennefather 1763
(Cashel Marriage License Bonds. The Pennefathers had a large estate near Cashel
They had 3 children that I know of
Richard Samuel b. say 1785 married Jane Quirk at Braddon on the Isle of Man on 11 Sept 1812
Samuel who married Ellen Scully of Dualla near Cashel on 27 Sept. 1800
Mary Anne who married James Fogarty of Cabra Castle on 18 Feb. 1816.
Next Generation
Richard Samuel and Jane Quirk had a son Richard born a son born on the I. of M. He married a Catherine Geddes on 24Sept. 1845
Samuel and Ellen Scully had a son John
The Alleynes seem to have been fairly well-off, the families they married into were big farmers. You will have to work out for yourself which of them went to Australia.

Barbados Alleyne Connections to Virginia

There was a Richard Alleyne who was the elder brother to the Reynold Alleyne (1609-1651) that immigrated to Barbados and became the progenitor of the Alleyne's of Barbados.

Richard Alleyne was born in 1610 and married Elizabeth Hales on April 13, 1640. Richard followed in his father's footsteps serving in the Church of England as rector of St. Mildred's in Canterbury from 1637-1654. This was a time of chaos in England immediately following the English Civil War and the establishment of the Protectorate under Cromwell in December 1653. It is believed that Richard Alleyne immigrated to the Virginia colony around 1654/55. There is no further trace of Richard Alleyne or his family in England following 1654 although records of a Richard Alleyn show up in Virginia immediately around the same time they disappear in England. In the 1689 land processioning records of New Kent County, Virginia, there was a Richard and Reynold Allen. It is believed that these two are sons of Richard Alleyn the immigrant. These Alleyn/Allen's of Virginia were very active in the leadership of the Church of England in Virginia and appear frequently in church records.

Have any of the Barbados Alleyne's who are descended from Reynold Alleyne participated in a DNA test? I would be interested to see if there is a DNA match between the Virginia Allen's and the Barbados Alleyne's.

Funny that you say this.... My father showed me a picture of his father who had green eyes and dark shin - from Barbados. My father - John Fitgerald Alleyne, said his grandfather was Irish. There was even a territory in Bardados called the "Alleyne Territory" and we acquired an early map that shows the territory. So there's one connection I thought I'd share with you.

Let me first say i completely agree with what you said, my name is Rhea Alleyne and i am also trying to piece together my family tree, does anyone know a Myrtle Alleyne of Barbados? she was my Great-grand-mother, i am still in the process of finding her mother, who used to work on a plantation, and her mom (my Great-great-great- grand mother) was half white,i'm thinking that she probably had sisters and brothers unknown to us, however; i understand they were all Alleynes.I hope that info helps, i'm assuming that you don't live in Barbados, i plan to start looking in Archives and if i find any info regarding the names you mentioned, i'll let you in on it, even if we don't have close blood ties.

Clifford had a god-father, William de Castro Alleyene who was the son of Samuel Maynard Alleyene and Sarah Elizabeth Armstrong. He had an uncle George Henry Alleyene and an aunt Elizabeth Maynard Alleyene who married a John Cooke Allder.

According to IGI there was also a William Thomas lleyene born 1811 and a John Alleyene, born 1819. I am trying to find out if the John is the same as John Alleyene who was Clifford's father.

I am also researching my family ancestors. I've been planning to do it long before my father Jimmy Alleyne passed away in 2002. I am from Trinidad and my father was from there also. His father's name was David Alleyne born in Barbados and migrated to Trinidad. He died in 1955. He was from St Michael's parish in B'dos. He had other siblings whom I never met and who had migrated to other islands. My grandfather's was first married in B'dos and had children then remarried to a Grenadian in T'dad. I was told he was mixed with Carib Indian. One of his daughter's from his first marriage Doris, lived in T'dad until her death at age 80. She was my main connection to B'dos but procrastination caused me to lose out on that info. My interest is to locate relatives of grand uncles and grand aunts.

Alleyne family of Golden, Tipperary to Sydney, NSW

Hi,

I've been working on my Alleyne/Alleyn/Allen ancestors in Sydney. As usual, spelling of their names veries depending on how the registrar hears the names pronounced.

The family arrived from Golden, Tipperary in 1850.
Ellen Alleyn married Michael Joseph Conlon, they lived in Glebe.
Her brother William was a butcher in Glebe around the same time.

I'd love to hear from any other descendents of the Alleyn's in Australia.

Pasted from my blog:
http://thehistoryofmatt.blogspot.com/

Michael Jospeh CONLON married Ellen Alleyn in St. Mary's Cathedral Sydney on 29 Jun 1865 and they subsequently lived in Glebe. In Michael's biography posted elsewhere here, he mentions that he married the daughter of Samuel Hyde ALLEYN, and in Ellen's marriage certifiate her place of birth is listed as Co. Tipperary, Ireland and her mother is named Mary.

These clues led me to the NSW Archives database, and a family who were entered under the surname ALLEN. I imagine the name was written phonetically, given the variation in name.

Here are their arrival records (pasted below). The main information to note is that Samuel ALLEN/ALLEY was married to Mary HAMMOND, though her age and the age of his children hints that she may be his second wife. Samuel and all his children were born in Golden, Tipperary, while Mary Hammond was born in Clonmel, Tipperary.

The other key clue is that the ALLEYN's already had a daughter in Sydney, Eliza: "Daighter Eliza Allen living in Sydney" and while I'm yet to track her down in arrival records, it's certainly an interesting development.

So, here are their arrival records transcribed. I look forward to connecting them to the other ALLEYNs in Golden, Tipperary.

List of Immigrants per Ship "Thetis" as by the immigration board inspected 22 May 1850

- Allen, Samuel, Married, 47, Parents names: William and Ellen, both dead, Calling: Shepherd, Native place and country: Golden, Tipperary, Religion: R.C., Can Read, Relations in the colony: Daighter Eliza Allen living in Sydney, State of bodily health: Inferior, Any complaints regarding voyage: None.
