HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - James Calvin Alloway, 86, formerly of Columbus City, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2007.

Joel McGraw will officiate. Internment will be at Stateline Cemetery in Hazel Green, Ala.
Services: Spry Funeral Home, Huntsville, Ala.

Mr. Alloway was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving aboard the battleships U.S.S. New York and U.S.S. Texas during WWII. In peacetime, he attended the U.S. School of Music in Washington and played trumpet for the U.S. Navy band, attaining the rank of chief petty officer.

Later still, he attended aviation electronics technician training in Millington, Tenn. After completion, he was given a permanent appointment as aviation electronics technician instructor until his retirement in 1960. He then moved to Huntsville to take a position with the NASA space program.

He worked on the Sky Lab project and would later work with various government contractors under the auspices of the NASA space program.
He attended Bicentennial Chapel at Redstone Arsenal and was a faithful servant of the Lord.

Survivors include two sons, James Lee Alloway of Madison, Ala., and Leslie Glenn Alloway and his wife, Mlou, of New Richmond, Wis.; two brothers, Melvin Alloway and Merlin Alloway of Muscatine; two sisters, Dolly Allen of Springfield, Ohio, and Jean Kuhlman of Superior, Neb.; special friends, Ronald and Linda Fields of Madison, Ala.; five grandchildren, Mark Alloway of Minneapolis, Heidi Alloway and Elizabeth Alloway of New Richmond, Jimmy Alloway Fields of Pensacola, Fla., and Alison Fields Brooks of Madison; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

MUSCATINE, Iowa -- James Brian Alloway, 50, Muscatine, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at Unity Hospital.

Services are at the Nichols Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Crematory, Muscatine. Pallbearers are Mark Kallenberger, Randy Kallenberger, Mike Alloway, Russell Alloway, and Tom Thompson. Burial will be at Columbus City Cemetery.

He was born April 24, 1953, in Muscatine, the son of Arthur Robert and Elizabeth Mae Welsch Alloway. He married Lori A. Lamb in October 1977 in Muscatine.

He worked at Prime Mover, Muscatine, until 1995.

He enjoyed bowling and building model cars.

Survivors include two sons, Russell and Michael, both of Muscatine; a daughter, Whitney Alloway of Bennett; two grandchildren, Austin and Noah Alloway; his mother and stepfather, Elizabeth and Donald Tietge of Muscatine; a sister, Shari and husband Ed Hicks of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; a nephew, Ryan Hicks of Arizona; a niece, Staci Stanton of Wapello; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and paternal and maternal grandparents.
