Hi I dont know if I can help you but my original ancestor was Edward Allyn married to a Sarah Kimball. Sarah had a large family..If you look in Suffields CT> HISTORical site you will find many Allyns some of which were ebenezer. I am not up to the older generations as I am reseaching the ones in the 1600s. I know that some of the family did go to New York, New Jersey and further south..Good Luck

I don't know about the Welsh Allyn connection, but I do have a question about Isaac Allyn. My husband has an ancestor, Mary Kimball Allyn, born in Preston, New London, Conn. in 1795. Her parents were Ebenezer Allyn and Polly Kimball. Mary Allyn was first married to an Isaac Allyn. I do not know if that was in Connecticut or in New York, where they were later found. I know they had one infant, who died in New York. Mary's father, Ebenezer, also died in New York, and he and the infant are buried side by side. Mary and Issac, along with her mother, sister and three brothers, then moved to Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, along with other families from Conn. In 1830, Polly and Isaac were divorced, and I have never found him in another census record. I don't know what happened to him. If you, or anyone else reading this post, can shed any light on this family, I would love to hear from you.
Sue

William H. Allyn, Connecticut and Wisconsin Connection

I am looking for information regarding the parents of William H. Allyn born 1812 in Hartford CT. I found a census of the family in Wisconsin in 1860 and an earlier one in CT but that is about it. I think maybe the mother's name was Sofia but I don't know her maiden name. Any information would be greatly appreciated as I've hit a brick wall! Thanks!

I am just now searching for family descendants, some of whom I know little about, particularly on my mother's side of the family.

Theodore and Eliza Cork were my great grandparents. One of their children, Etta Useba, was my grandmother. She was married at first to a man named Sikes and then to my grandfather, Cirus R. Burns Jr. To that union was born four daughters. My mother, Esmond Lea, was the oldest.

She met my father during World War II when he was stationed in California. From that union came five children with me the oldest. My parents are both deceased.

I am building my own family tree under Edward Dent. I assume you may be able access information. I have a lot of people yet to add. I can also be reached at ed-dent@sbcglobal.net.

I have the following information in my wife's ancestry:
My wife is Bonnie Lou (Corpian) Herlache.
Her father was Clifford Corpian.
Her Grandfather Was Lyman Corpian.
Great Grandfather William Gipson Corpian.
William's mother was Roxanna "Roxy" Ray and her father was George Washington Ray and her mother was Lucinda Lamb.
Roxy married Joseph Hiram Hudson (2nd wife). William was the son of what is believed to be a Hiram Corpian but no one seem to know for sure. Roxy was never married to this Corpian. Joseph Hiram Hudson never adopted William but raised him. It is believed that William was about 2 years old when Roxy married Joseph. Roxy's father was George Washinton Ray and her mother was Lucinda Lamb. Lucinda was the daugter of Caleb Lamb born March 30,1767 in Vermont and died May 1, 1873 at the age of 106 years 1 month and 2 days. I have found a picture of Caleb on the internet and his grave stone. The grave stone also gives the Allyn name on it.

Hope this helps. If you have any other information to share it would be apreciated. E-mail is rherlache@baycomwi.com

Hi!
Ginger August is really "the heart and soul" of the Geer Family Association. Some day I will write on the political division in regards to the Civil War in regards to the families of Elisha Satterlee Bill,(Union), first wife Olivet Geer, and his Lodowick Bill, (Confederate), wife Elizabeth "Bets(e)y" Geer. These Geer women were remotely related. Olivet is a descendant of the original George Geer's son Jonathan while "Bets(e)y" was a descendant of Jonathan's brother Robert. Both Lodowick and Elisha lived in Connecticut.
I am more of an Allyn than a Geer. I have one Hannah Allyn line that goes into a Rose line. One of my Geer ancestors may have been married to an Allyn also and not does not include the original George Geer.
Relatively yours,
Scott

Ginger; I'm researching Thomas Parke Gere, a man who, along with his brother William Beecher Gere, were living in my hometown, Chatfield, MN, when they enlisted for Civil War service. They both did important service in the south, Tom winning the CM of H in the Battle of Nashville. But to my mind, Tom Gere's most interesting service occurred in the Dakota War of 1862, and specifically the defense of Fort Ridgely against Dakota attack. On the first night of that war, Tom Gere was in command of the fort, commanding about 30 men and protecting 250 refugees. He was all of 19, and he had the mumps. I know about his ancestry. I'm trying to find out about his descendants. Looks like he had 4 children. That's where the trail ends for mr. Do you have any further information or know where I should look?

I have been looking at Connecticut census records for 1800, 1810, 1820 but those records only give names and nothing else. So I have looked at possible father's in the area. There was a Jonathan Allyn B. 21 Dec 1742 in Wintonbury, Hartford. Also a Benjamin B. 1765. On one census it lists a Thomas Allyn right under a Chester Allyn B. 1787. So I am still trying. There are some possible siblings born close to 1804, Lathrop 1801, Samuel but no clue.

My husband and I went to Connecticut last fall and found a large family gravesite in Mystic Connecticut with lots of Allyn's, most had the names and dates worn off. That town even has an exit off the highway called Allyn Street. I asked their local librarian and she said that it was a very common name years ago, due to the Seaport there.

I just keep trying. I found the small cemetary called Sly Cemetary were I believe TJA is buried, and the approx. location of his farm.

Yes I am still looking for anything on Thomas Jefferson Allyn. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you and can't get any farther as to TJA parents. We have had a family emergency and I won't be available till tomorrow to look things up and see if they are useful to you.

Are you still looking for information on the Allyn family?I have tried to find the parents of Thomas Jefferson Allyn B. 1804 in Connecticut, but have had no luck. There seems to be no parents or siblings. Dennis Edgar Allyn would have been my grandfather, my father being Edgar Dennis Allyn of Michigan.

No, they are different Sabras!!

My 4GG is Sabra Griswold Case born in 1763 who married George Allyn. Her parents were indeed Joshua Case, Jr. and Lydia Griswold, widow of Stephen Palmer. See Barbour Collection and George's Rev. War Pension as well as several sources.

I have also seen several family trees showing Sabra married to her deceased father-in-law, Theophilus Allyn. His wife was Tryphena Wolcott. He died when George was a young boy making it impossible for Sabra to be married to him!!

Allyn or Allen in Windham County, Connecticut

In 1808, George Larned and Otis Allyn, executors for the estate of the late James Allyn, advertised James' farm in Thompson, Windham, CT for sale in the Providence Gazette (30 Jul 1808). Can anyone tell me anything about this Allyn family? I know it is a long shot, but the names James and Otis were used frequently among the descendents of Peleg Allyn of New York and Indiana, and I wonder if there might be connection.

Vernon Otis Allyn was one of the six children of Otis Allyn (12 May 1864 - 17 Feb 1933) and Florence Duckworth Arnett (22 Jun 1864-1 Dec 1953), who were married on 26 Sep 1889 in Posey County, IN. This Otis Allyn (there were several) was the son of Walter Calvin "Cale" Allyn (2 Sep 1834 - 29 Aug 1904) and Martha Jane Keeling (2 May 1840 - 26 May 1922, New Haven, IL). Walter Calvin Allyn was the son of Abijah Allyn (6 Mar 1794-1 Feb 1874) and Catharine/Katharine "Kate" Hooper (26 Sep 1799 - 27 Jan 1853). Abijah was the son of Peleg Allyn and Mary Lobdell and brother of Jehial mentioned earlier in this thread.

How interesting. I am related to both the Ray family and the Allyn family (through marriage) but in different families. Elizabeth Ray, daughter of George and Lucinda Ray, was my great-great-great grandmother. Elizabeth Ray married Lewis Betts in Wisconsin. Their daughter, Lucinda Betts, married Jack Simons in Wisconsin; their daughter Lizzie Simons married Charles Allman, the son of Melissa Lacy Staley Allyn)in Stuart, Holt County, Nebraska.

It seems a small world since Melissa Lacy didn't connect to the Ray/Betts family until she lived in Nebraska.

I hope this all makes sense.
