Jane, was he Norwegen or Swedish? My great grandfather immigrated with his wife and 5 children in 1880 and went directly to Amherst Junction, which is still just a village in Portage County Wisconsin. Even had 2 brother, Paul and Carl, one who died early and his wife and two sons immigrated to the same area. He had one sister Helene who stayed in Norway and the other immigrated with her husband and children, and lived on the MN Wis border about 100 miles from Even.
