My great grandfather's name was alfred Alm. He moved from Illinois in the late 1800's. I believe he was born around 1873. He married Agnus Rassmussen in 1898. He had 4 children. One, of which, was my father Lyman born Aug 28,1901. I do not know of Albert Alm. So, maybe a different Alm? My email is galmihc9370@hotmail.com

The person that I received the information on posts on this Alm forum as it was her maiden name. She was last looking for a photo of a Clara Alm on here.
Hi, Jennifer!

My Alms came to the US from Sweden 10 Sept. 1884 - the ship manifest lists:

Johana F., born about 1843;
"Dotter", b. abt. 1867 (Anna??);
Emma, b. 20 August 1870;
Charlotte, b. 1873;
Marie Hannah, b. 9 May 1879 (my great-grandmother);
Karl, b. 1882.

I have pictures and descendants of Emma, Charlotte and Marie but I have no information as to their father or oldest sister or Karl; I don't know what happened to Johana F., either.

My grandfather's (Marie Hannah's eldest son) middle name is Alhm, which further stirs the pot.

Are we a match???

Feel free to email me, either randi@wilycow.com or welhaven@gmail.com.

Thanks!

Randi Welhaven

Gene had two different wives(Kelly and Tippie),but no further information than this. I am interested to further the family tree along if there is more information. Thank you.

Anton Alm, wife Olga, granddau named Maude

I have an original 5” x 7” photograph of “Anton Alm, Olga Alm & granddaughter Maude”, which I would like to get back to family members. Photo was taken in about 1950, and Anton and Olga look to be about 60 years old, while Maude looks about 8 to 10.

I found an Anton Alm (who may or may not be the Anton in the photo) in the 1930 census of Los Angeles, CA. Anton B. Alm was 39 in 1930, born in MN, and he lived with his mother, age 79, brother 51 and sister 45. One World Tree shows that Anton Alm was born 23 Dec 1890 in Tripolis, MN.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Anton, Olga and Maude.

This is my Great GrandFather, b. september 28, 1836. He immigrated to US. Census data indicates he was born in Mechlinburg (Germany?). Family history says he immigated from Alsace-Lorraine. This is some question if the original name was Alm or Alam or a census taker who couldn't spell. He was married to Henriette Hensler b. Apr. 14, 1838.
Marriage date is supposed to be Dec. 19, 1864. Does anyone have anything that matches to this?

Diane,

Forgive me! Perhaps we are on the same track -- I have since found Hannah's two sisters:

__ Charlotte "Lottie" Alm (b.1873) married William Turnquist -- both lived and died in St. Paul, Minnesota

__ Emma Alm married Alek Wistrom - both died in St. Paul.

So, to recap -- seeking any info on parents of Hannah Marie 'Marie' Alm Welhaven (b. 1879) and her sisters. Also, my grandfather's middle name was Alhm and sometimes misspelled as Ahlm or Alm.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Randi
My grandfather Franz Alm emigrated from Norway in the late 1890's to participate in the Alaska gold rush. My grandmother Marie Gladheim emigrated from Norway in 1910 to marry Franz. They both came from the Alm area of Norway North of Oslo. Alms have lived there from at least the 1400s. I still have relatives there.

Hi, Diane.

While I am finding out much, much more than I have ever known about my g-grandmother Hannah Marie Alm Welhaven, I haven't yet come across your Krystyne.

Hannah came to US at age 5 in 1884 with her mother Johana, sisters Emma, Charlotte and Anna Caroline, and baby brother Karl. After dragging my feet, I finally loosened the purse strings and upgraded to US Passenger Lists and VOILA! There they were. I'll see if I can't find something for you there.

Good luck in the meantime!

Randi

I thought I might just post this and see what happens!

I have been searching for any information about my g-grandmother -- Hannah Marie Alm Welhaven.

This is what I know so far:

She came to the US with her mother, Johana, a sister listed as Dotler who has since been identified as Anna Caroline (married Albert Wistrom), sister Emma (married Alec Wistrom), sister Charlotte (married William Turnquist) and brother Karl (unknown). They arrived in New York 1884 from Gotenburg, Sweden and the girls ended up in St. Paul (MN), Duluth (MN) and Grantsburg (WI).

Do I have any relations out there?! I would love to hear from you. I have some birth dates, death dates, pictures, etc on most of these people.
Alm is a kind of tree. You call it elm. It was a common soldiername in Sweden. Don´t know what it is in Germany, but in Austria it´s a cabin in the mountain where the farmers had the cattles in the summertime.

My GGGrandfather served in the Swedish Army 1818 to 1847. His father was Anders and thus he would have been Anders-son under normal circumstances. When he enlisted he was assigned the name Älm (meaning Elm - like the tree) because he was posted at Älmas outpost near Tranås, Sweden. When he emigrated the name changed to ALM and they lived in northern Illinois.
