Seeking information on Armendarez / Armendariz in Texas

Greetings,

I look forward to any help, ideas, or connections you can provide. So far, I traced my Armendarez family history back to my great-great-grand parents' names - but no further. Here is the information I have to date.

Part of the issue may be that they migrated from Mexico, but I have not been able to find such records. I am not sure if the Armendarez were present when Texas became independent or not, either. Any tips on how to move forward are appreciated!

My name is Sara and my grandmother was notified that we were using the Almendarez spelling illegally when I was a child. So the origin is still a mystery. My Grandfather is Louis Almendarez and I am looking for anyone with information on our history prior to my grandfather. My fathers name is Louis Bernardo Almendarez from California.

from a ranch name la palma pegada, where is a lot of almendarez families the one that started in my ranch was pedro almendarez then he had a lot of sons no daughters jst sons and iit was like that my great grand father had like 9 sons too and one came to the us to plano texas his name was jose oton almendarez the rest remain in mexico my grand father name is juventino almendarez and he still lives in la palma pegada and others of his brothers still live over there....etc etc

Looking for background information on my dad's side of the family - my Grandfather's name is Robert H Almendarez. WWII vet, brothers Maximo, Anselmo and Frank. Parents were Margarito and Manuela Almendarez, I've been searching for information on my Great-Grandparents but without birthdates I am running into a dead end.

Hi Sandra this is you cousin Lisa Tomas and Alicia's daughter. It's funny that I came across this. I was in Premont a couple of months ago and went to see Fea. We were sitting around the kitchen table when I asked her about our last name. I have a letter that my dad sent to my mom where he used Armendariz spelling instead of the way we spell it. Fea told me that when their cousin Pedro changed his name when he became famous that the whole family changed their name. There may be some truth to this.

Our surname cn be traced to desoto exploration of the southeastern u.s .We are from a region of southern spain who fought the moors and drove them from southern spain.The name almendarez can also be traced to the Basque region between France and Spain an area known in ancient times for mercenaries.

WOW!! 15 to 20 years ago, you could hardly find a Almendarez. I'm David Anthony Almendarez 46 yrs. old, I live in Fallbrook CA.- My Father is David D. Almendarez also of Fallbrook CA.- His Father was David Pedro Almendarez also from this area- His Father was ( my great grandfather ) was Pedro Almendarez who lived in the Los Angeles & Riverside CA. area. passed away when my grandfather, David P. was 6 mos. old. I believe he or his parents ( great great ), were from Mexico. Heres where it gets confusing; My grandfather David P. (passed away) told us, this was not his Dads, Dad, last name.(3rd great) That he was given his moms maiden (which was Almendarez), had something to do with her running with Zappata (great great great grandmother), she was a fighter (soldier or whatever they were called)??Would like to find out where the Family originated. I'm sure were all related one way or another. Name wasn't very common out here CA. until recently. Have a whole lot of family in Chino CA. area also. My Grandfathers brother was Russel Almendarez. I can get more names if needed from my Grandmother (still living ). Our Family here is real close 2 Brothers ( grandfather & uncle) married 2 sisters (grandmother & aunt). David Armendariz Sequieros, son of Ramon Armendariz and ? Sequieros is currently trying to find relatives in Aquas Calientes. David will be in Aquas Calientes during week of July 1, 2002. Origen of David's family is Sonora.

Lucario Almendarez, my paternal great grandfather came from Mexico around 1880 to Questa, NM and married Maria Antonia Rosa Gomez and had my paternal grandmother, Maria Josefa Almendarez in Cuchara, CO around 1884.
Lucario's parents were killed in Mexico by raiding Apaches and was being raised by an unk Uncle. The story goes that he and an unk brother ran away from Northern Mexico and Lucario was working on the Easter NM plains with a buffalo hunting crew. Families from Questa (then known as Rio Colorado) would then send hunting parties and Lucario came back with them to Questa.

Are you aware of any ALMENDAREZes from Chile? I am researching a JUANA LATRILLE ALMENDAREZ, whose father, DOMINGO LATRILLE LOUSTAUNEAU, the founder of Tocopilla, Chile, today a city of about 20,000.

Why? Because they married an OWEN. Mr. OWEN EDWARD OWEN married Ms. Latrille Almendarez, either late in the 19th or more likely early in the 20th century. They, as is usual with Owens, are trying to find people across the sea, the plains, in this case across the world. Oh, they live in Australia for a few decades. This information was provided by his grandson, LIVING OWEN.

This is not a trick question. Expect anything from an OWEN.

I am searching for Pedro Almendarez (b. 1860) and or his son Matilde (b. 1885). They emigrated to Oklahoma and became coal miners near Gowen in Latimer Co.

I do not know if they came from SLP, but others in the family did.

My dad is from Harlingen, his name is Andrew Almendarez. He had a twin named Abraham. I don't know to much about that side of my family so i was interested in know if any of us are related.

I knew Wally Armendariz on the one to one basis. He married Beto Villa's daugther Iris. This might concern some of you, that Pedro Armendariz was related to Wally in some way. I think that Pedro was born in La Gloria, Texas. Pedro, was a famous mexican movie star....

I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. My father was employee for that city. A tree trimmer. I don't know much about him. But he died an alchoholic. Now i live in Stockdale Texas about 34 miles from S.A.. I've been here, and married to the same man for eighted years. If have any info. for me please let me know.

Hi Amy, sorry it took so long to respond. According to my inquires to several old relatives, your fathers name was not familiar to anyone. My father's family was from Spain and the
actually spelling was Armendariz. When my father's family migrated to Texas most of his brothers were were into ranching and farming. I do have a cousin that was a singer in the early 60's by the name of Lupe "Wally" Almendarez who became a well known Tejano music singer. He passed away about 6-7 yrs ago. I will keep going on and maybe somewhere down the line we'll both find something. Bye!

My father's name is Melvyn Almendares and his father's name was Candido Almendares of Toas, NM. It is rumored that the spelling was changed in the mid-to late 1800's. My grandfather was born in 1896 and died on Nov. 13th 1964. My Aunt and I are trying to find out more about this side of the family but haven't beenable to get very far. Most of us have been living in Laramie, WY for the past 50 years and now some are in the Denver area. We would love to hear from you...
