Almond, Thorne, Bledsoe, Altman connections

Hopefully there is someone still researching this line who will read this post. I descend through James Thorne born abt. 1785 in North Carolina who married Elisa "Betty" Almond, daughter of Canady Almond. James and Elisa Thorne's daughter, Martha (born 1808 in N.C.) married Yancey Bledsoe in 1823 in Wake county, N.C. - they moved to Tennessee abt. 1830. On the 1840 census, Martha Thorne Bledsoe is listed as head of household and beside her is her father-in-law, Jacob Bledsoe. Yancey must have died before 1840.

Yancey and Martha Thorne Bledsoe had these children: G.W., Lewis, Francis Marion, Elizabeth Jane, Yancey D., Martha, Edna A., W. R., and Samaria. Martha Thorne Bledsoe ?died in Tennessee before 1850 and her children moved to Sumter county, Alabama after that most likely to live near their Thorne relatives - their uncles James, Jesse, Turner, Willis, and J. Canady Thorne.

Interestingly, on the 1850 census, two daughters of Yancey and Martha Thorne Bledsoe were living with the family of John Altman in Sumter county, Alabama. I was not sure why, but maybe now I might present a theory.

John Altman of Sumter county, Alabama was born about 1819 in South Carolina; wife Sarah Jane Hitt; children - William, Sarah J., John, and N. Green. (Green was a popular name among the Almond, Almon, Almann families.)John Altman had a brother named Nathan, also a popular given name among that family. So..perhaps the Bledsoe girls were living with RELATIVES of their maternal grandmother, Elisa Betty Almond. Could the Altmans of South Carolina be related to the Almonds of North Carolina?

I have recently started researching my Grandmothers family and found her mothers name was Almond. My Grandmothers mother was Sarah Ellen Almond 1877-1899 married to Thomas Tutbury Taylor. Sarah passed away I believe in childbirth in her early twenties and the children, my grandmother and her sister Lily went into an orphanage but were taken out by their fathers sister and brought up by her. They lived in Leeds and I am anxious to trace anyone who is from this line who could help me trace the Almond side of the family.

Isaac Obediah Almond moving from Virginia to North Carolina

I have been researching my Almond line from Campbell County, Virginia for some time. I knew of Isaac Obediah Almond who moved to North Carolina later in life and with whom the family lost touch. I tracked him down in the 1930 census with his wife, Rebba and two daughters in Lowland, Pamlico, North Carolina.

Now I have, courtesy of the lovely folks from North Carolina who published their death certificates determined his wife was Reba James Jarvis and determined that he was buried in Holly Wood Cemetery, Lowland, Pamlico, North Carolina.

Obediah was born December 26, 1894 in Virginia and died July 4, 1957.

He was an engineer on the Sea Board Rail Road in Apomattox, VA before he retired.

I would love to know if he moved because of a family connection asI am always running into the Almond family in North Carolina, to marry Reba Jarvis or did he meet her there while working?

But most of all I would love to know if his grandfather Reuben H. Almond is buried in the same cemetery that Isaac is. I have always been told that Reuben H. Almond was buried in Lowland, North Carolina--but that was a bit too large of an area to search.

Hope this is coherent enough to post. Just found the death certificates and have been happily searching most of the night.

I am searching for information/descendants of George Jane ALMOND, nee. Chapman, who married at Hollington Parish Church, Hastings, East Sussex, England, on 22nd November, 1898.

George was born about 1873 at Wittersham, Kent, England, the son of Jesse Matild Almond.

George and Jane had at least two known children - George Lisney Almond born 6th October, 1899, at Hollington, Hastings, England, and Miriam Almond (year of birth unknown). The family emigrated to CANADA.

I would love to hear from anyone with these names in their family tree.

Looking for info on Walter Coles Almond and Mary Virginia (Otey)Almond. They were from Lynchburg, VA and moved to Baltimore, MD between 1900 and 1910. They were on the 1910 and 1920 Md census. I have an old photograph from 1800s, written on the back is "2nd Grandmother, Elizabeth Fuller Almond married Grandfather Almond in 1884; died July 22, 1922, 82 years". So she would have been born 1840 give or take a year. The photograph is a "Rawlinson" photo which I believe to be the photographer's name.

Thomas Almond - Croston, Lancashire

I am researching the Almond side of my family, whose roots were in the village of Croston, Lancashire, England.

I have got as far as a Thomas Almond who married Catherine Mawdesley in Croston on 29 Aug 1792.

I am however struggling to discover who Thomas' parents were. It is possible he was born in Croston on 27 Feb 1753 to Lawrence & Alice Almond, but this is pure guesswork and I have nothing to confirm it.

Any information on this, or on the Croston Almonds in general, would be greatly appreciated.

I am researching the Almond family who originate from the village of Croston in Lancashire.

Back in 1999 Kay Inglis posted a message on another board which contained the line:

"Prior to this we have notes in a family bible of a Hugh Almond m. Susan, bab. ch: 30Jan 1786, Alice and Francis and Henry bab 15Jan 1789"

Hugh Almond lived in Croston and was my 4th great granduncle. I have tried without success to contact Kay - does anyone out there how to contact her or, even better, have a copy of the bible she refers to?

James may be the son of James Almond and Mary Ward or possibly Henry Almond and Alice. I think he may have been from Cadshaw. Have tried locating a grave but to no effect. Think he may have died 1845 in Darwen.

Hulan Odell Almond-Born 1903 in /durham N.C Her mother was Effie Ada West born May21 1903 in JOHNSON N.C. Died Oct 13, 1948. Bertha Almond raised my mother after Effie died after she ran away from an ofernage (sp)with her brother Odell and sister Alease.

Bertha could only take care of one, so momm was the youngest so the others left her with
Bertha and went back to the ofernage(sp). Long story but Odell left again and Alease stayed there until she could get out.

my great grandfather was William Henry Harrison Almond B in 1841 died in Durham N.C
His wife was Ida tucker born in culpepper Va.

Richard Almond 1916 born in Middlesbrough and Lily Rose Almond 1918 to Claude Almond and Francis Brown they were married in Northallerton North Yorks. Their first child Harold was born there before moving to Middlesbrough.

I know harold died aged 41YRS in Manchester, Lily moved to Manchester some time ago and married later in life to James Bardsley ?no family. However Richard was in the Navy in the war. I have yet to have any luck connecting Reuben H. Almond with his siblings and/or parents.

In the 1840 Virginia census Reuben H. Almond with family is living next to James Almond with family and Polly Almond.

Can anyone put these three Almonds together outside this one census document? If I could prove Reuben and James were brothers it would open up an entire world.

Still would love to know who his parents were, also.

Cora Almond of Colorado

Searching for info or threads of information regarding my great-grandmother and her ancestors. She was Cora Alond, born Nov. 29, 1884 in Morrison, Colorado. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Almond. She attended what would become Colorado Teacher's College and U of No. CO. I think it may have been called Colorado Normal School then, in Greeley. She married Marshall Orendorf on June 26, 1912 in Norwood, Colorado. They settled in Ouray, Colorado and had 5 children. She was the first female superintendant of schools for that county. She dies in 1954 and was buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Ouray. Both her parents are buried there, as well. That's all I know. Her father may have immigrated from England. But I don't know if there were any siblings or anything. Info would be appreciated.

William Allman, DeKalb Co., GA, 1840 Census

Can anyone help me identify William Allman who appears in the 1840 census of District 636, DeKalb Co., Georgia, in the 1840 census? William is aged 60-70 with a female of the same age, and one male 5-10, 2 males 10-15, one female <5, and two females 10-15.

Does anyone have ideas on what line this William belongs to and where he came from?

He is the right age to be the child of John Richard Allman, b. abt 1750 in NC, who is said by some to have had a son William who married Lovey Casey, but I have yet to find evidence of what happened to this William.

There is a William Allman in Franklin Co., GA, in 1830, but he is listed then as being 60-70 and has no one in the household who would correspond to the 60-70 year old female in the 1840 DeKalb census.

Born about 1835 in Leicestershire, England and family tradition has it that he invented a dentists drill whilst in US. He was married twice and had daughters Mary Jane about 1862 - 1937 and Agnes about 1860 - 1935 (possibly married to a Mr Roy). The second marriage resulted in Julia(?) born about 1875 and died later than 1945.

They were Charles, Thomas and Mary Almond, all born Clandown, Somerset, between 1860 and 1875. GGFather was John George (1859-1923) and his youngest sister Clara, later Talbot.

In 1974 James Duffy requested the deed to Henry Almond and Elizabeth Almond Grave Section 24 Lot 214 at Fernwood Cemetery. I am doing genealogy and trying to complete this line. In the 1930 census I have a George Almond age 28 living with Nellie and John Warner. In 1930 census I have his brother William age 33 married to a Margaret and they have a daughter Sally Ann Almond age 3. Can anyone connect?

I am looking for any and all information regarding the Almonds of Kansas and/or Ohio. Specifically that of my grandfather's family. He was James Henry Almond b. 10/16/01 in Yates Center, Woodson Co. KS. Siblings include (I think) Goldie M., Lola L., Lina S., and Clifford R. There may have been more, I am not sure.
His father was Jacob D. Almond and his mother was Eva (or Ava) Adelia Young. I believe that Jacob's father was William H. Almond, b. 1848 in Ohio and his mother was Mary E (nee?) b. 1843 in Ohio, but I don't have documentation to support this.

I know I wrote to this list a long time ago, but here I am again. My grandmother was born in Manchester in 1883 to William and Sarah . She had 1 sister, Elizabeth b. 1879 , a brother Ralph b1873 and brother William b1876. The family lived in Chorlton Upon Medlock, Newton and Ardwick-- all in Lancashire County, England. Sarah (the mother) was born Sarah Allen in Salford. When the parents died (1886-1900) the children were sent to Canada, where they were split up to live with different families.Sarah (my gran) married William Munday in approx 1898.They had 6 children. I'm looking for information on William and/or Sarah Almond
who I believe to be the birth parents of my great grand-
mother, Mary Almond Marshall Higgins Guffey. According
to Civil War Database William was killed in the Civil War
and I don't know what happened to Sarah. My ggrandmother
was born om March, 1863 and was adoped by Wilson
(her adopted mother) and Marshall (her adopted father) -

Lou Almond and Joe ADAMS produced Eva who married a Gipson, Pink who married a Larry, Barbary who married a Miller, and Jodie and Lela both of whom married a Hough. Three other issues of the Almond-Adams marriage were Archie, Worth and Stumpsey.

Lou Almond and Joseph W. Adams are both buried in Gilgal Cemetery in Claiborne Parish, LA. along with some of their descendants. I have tombstone photos and will share. All info will be greatly appreciated.

The 1860 Census lists John Almond age 57, Mariah Almond age 46, Francis - male, age 21, Sarah age 20, Nancy age 18, Mary age 16, Edmund age 14, John L.age 12, Anna age 10, Wm age 6, and Martha age 2. The elder John Almond was born in North Carolina and Mariah was born in Alabama. It's possible the family lived in Paris, TN. Thanks!
