Delton Fairfield New Buffalo near Baraboo Wisconsin - Noah Cynthia Alma / Almy

Mary, it has been awhile. Would like to reconnect. Noah and Cynthia Alma/Almy (It was actually initially spelled Alma, but pronounced Almy)are my 3g grandparents. They were in Pennsylvania in 1850 - Elk Creek, Erie County, though both were born in New York. Their first three children, Julia, Laura, and A. were also born in NY - Castile, Genesee County. The family moved first to Pennsylvania, then to Fairfield, Wisconsin, near Baraboo , Delton PO. Noah and Cynthia are here in 1860, 1870, and 1880. The 1880 Census gave me a surprise. It says Noah's father came from Wales. Rosanna has a son named Llewellyn Newell. The name Llewellyn comes from the first recognized Prince of Wales, acknowledged 1267 by Henry III, King of England. The family seems to like to leave name clues. Rose's sister, my gg grandmother, Laura (Alma) Hornby Atkinson named one child Bertram, a town in Norway (though I have not connected this) and Laura's daughter, my great grandmother, Inez Mabel (Hornby)Shaver Ecker named a child Alma Ecker (pronounced Almy). Laura's family with three Atkinson children and three Hornby children moved to Fargo, North Dakota. Laura's 1st husband Robert Hornby died in the Civil War, as did her brother, Samuel Almy.)
Would like to connect with other cousins to help fill in the pieces.
My E-mail is Laudi C AT Comcast Dot net - with no spaces and proper symbols for @ and .

I'm trying to find out information on Richard Morris (1690-1763) who is sort of an ancestor to Christopher Almy. I need to know if he had wives before Mary Porter (1692-?), married Jun 1741. They show 20 children and not sure if they're all Mary's or not. Any help appreciated.
Thank you,
Celeste

OK -Now that's what we need to get someone interested in helping you - good job. Now here is what I would suggest: you copy this and post it as a separate query for yourself here on this message board with her name [or whichever ancestor you are stuck on or are searching for] with dates as you have here and that will bring attention to your quest for help. As it is now, it will catch only the eyes of anyone who knows about or is interested in the subject name I posted a query for. And as you can see by the lack of responses I have received, that is no one! I would also suggest you post the same or another query about these ancestors on genforum.com, search for surname ALMY. You may even find others intersted in these as you do a seach on both for your ancestors before posting a query - never know! Try searching for William G. Almy, and or Sarah. Of course I do not know what you are looking for, but maybe you can get some ideas for further research from my suggestions (or not). But hey: it's free and not much is these days. No budget cuts here.

I do not have any Sarah Elizabeth Almy on my database and no Sarah of that late date. If I read your message correctly, she was born in 1877 and came over from New Haven, (what county?) England. Or do you mean she was from England, moved to New Haven,CT.? Either way, my Almys came over from England at a much earlier time period. For anyone to try to help you with your Sarah, more information is needed. For starters: was she born an Almy or married an Almy?

I am so sorry Mary but I don't think this mail was ever answered. Since I wrote that mail I found a cousin in RI I think who has done extensive work on the Almy family and even has a CD you can order. His name is Merwin F Almy and I think you can find him on the net as I don't have the address at hand. He even does a monthly news letter. Our oldest Relative, William, is first found in the 1600's in RI or NY I can't remember off hand and came over from England. The CD is called "William Almy and his descendants in America" Again sorry, Paul Almy

13 ALMY burials in Pawnee County, Oklahoma - Sinnett Cemetery

I found the following ALMYs buried in the Sinnett Cemetery in rural Pawnee County, Oklahoma--about 20 miles west of Tulsa. This is a pretty and well-kept cemetery.

Many in this cemetery were once buried in the town of Keystone, Creek County. They were later relocated to the present location when the town was evacuated and the Keystone Dam/Lake were built in its place in the late 1950's.

For purposes of noting births in your gedcom, the older residents (if born in this region) were born in either Indian Territory or Oklahoma Territory--as the border line was near. The two territories were dissolved when Oklahoma became a state in late 1907. The Sinnett Cemetery land and surrounding area was acquired through a "land run" when the Government opened up Indian-owned property for "sooners" to grab on a first-come-first-served basis. Sherman Ackley, the owner, later donated this property for burials.

Burials and grave marker photos are also at http://www.findagrave.com/ A direct link:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GScid=...

Almy, Anna M.
b. 1891 d. 1970

Almy, Edith R.
b.
Hi Greg,
Mary was the daughter of my great-grandfather. She was my grandfather's sister. I called my father to ask him to send me all the information he had about the Deans. He's going to mail the information to me and I'll copy it and mail it to you if you would like me to. He asked me to ask you if you have contacted any of your grandfather's half brothers or his half sister who still live in Clarksville. He says that he's pretty sure that some of them are still living. He also told me that Hick Dean's name was John Hicks Dean and that Hick's father's name was Samuel. Franklin's sister has a bunch of family pictures. She gave my father all of the Almy pictures a couple of years ago. I will send you all of the Almy info that I can with the Dean information my Dad sends me. We still don't know much past Andrew A. Almy. My father said he would also be willing to talk to you if you want to give him a call. He still lives in Hopkinsville but moved recently and doesn't have internet access anymore.
I am searching for information about any Almys that may have immigrated to the US from France (maybe through New Orleans). My ggrandfather (Andrew Allison Almy)was listed on the KY census (1870) in Shelby County and he listed his birthplace as France.

Hi Michael,
My father's father was George H. Almy. George Almy was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Andrew Allison Almy was George's father. We are not sure where Andrew was born or when and where he died. As I said online, on the census he listed his place of birth as France. My father remembers that his uncle went "up the river" (Illinois, Indiana, or Ohio maybe?) to represent the family when he died, but no one remembers where or when that was.
Do you think that we are talking about the same Andrew Almy? I hope were are because we've been researching this for 13 years now and keep hitting dead ends. I also have pictures; many old pictures. My Dad knows who some of them are, but not all of them. I think most of them are from the Tresch side of the family however, but there are some of the Almy's also.
Please let me know if you think we share the same great-grandfather. I hope we do.
My g-g-grandfather was Andrew Allison Almy. The 1870 Shelby County KY Census, showed him as coming from France and says he was a shoemaker. He eventually settled in Hopkinsville, KY. Could this be the same man as your Grandfather? If so, I would love to have any information you have about him and I will be glad to share also.

My grandpa's name was Franklin Almy Dean (9/20/1913) and he was born to a Hick Dean and a Mary Almy in Hopkinsville, KY. I believe Mary was the daughter of your great grand father, Andrew A. Almy. I hope what I have said is true and we are able to share info; anything you could tell me about Hick, Mary, or the Almy's would be appreciated.

According to the 1910 census for Cimarron, Pawnee Co., OK Frederick Almy born 1841 was born in NY, his father was born RI, his mother born MA.

This identifies him as the "Fredrick" Almy, age 9, b. NY in the 1850 census for New Bedford, MA. His father, Benjamin T. Almy was born in Newport, RI, his mother Sylvia (Howland) Almy was born in Dartmouth, MA. Frederick is listed on the 1890 Veterans Schedule as living in Wood River, Dawson Co., Nebraska. He had served as a mate 1861-65 on the USS Savannah.

Through his mother's Howland line, Frederick Almy was a second cousin to the eccentric miserly heiress Hetty Howland (Robinson) Green, "The Witch of Wall Street," who inherited a fortune from her family's whaling business and invested it further so that by the time she died her estate, in today's dollars, would be over $17 billion, making her the richest woman in American history. Frederick and Hetty were great-grandchildren of Gideon Howland (Sr.) and Sarah Hicks.

Almy/Davenport marriages, New York 1800s

Who is the Anna (---) Almy who md. Joseph Davenport on 14 August 1811? She was born 15 June 1770; died 10 Dec. 1842, is buried with husband Joseph Davenport, in Grove Cemetery, Trumansburg, Tompkins, NY . She married Joseph Davenport as his second wife on 14 August 1811 and they had one son: David, born 14 March 1815.

On the 1810 census for Ovid, Seneca Co., NY, Joseph Davenport and Anna appear; Joseph has a wife; Anna is a widow with 5 children. Which Almy was she married to?

Information about this Almy/Davenport marriage came to me after posting queries/information I had at the time about my known Almy/Davenpor marriage. My interest in any/all Almy/Davenport marriages is because after the death of my ancestor John Almy who md. Sarah (Kirby), Sarah married a “Mr Davenport” whose first name I have never found but which was mentioned on a deed for my own Bradford Almy, son of John Almy and Sarah (Kirby) (Almy) Davenport.

"....I Bradford Almy of Sacketts Harbour in the County of Jefferson, in the State of New York..... paid my Wm D. Cornell of the Town of Marcellus, County of Onondaga..... sold and quit claimed..... all my right and title....all that certain farm or piece or parcel of land ...in the Town of Ovid, County of Seneca, state aforesaid, being a certain piece of land which Samuel Almy by his last will and testament devised to John Almy....which fell by decent from the said John Almy to the said Bradford his Father and now occupied by a Mr. Devenport who married the widow of the said John Almy deceased....." set my hand and seal this tenth day of February A.D. 1818.....

No matter how often I have tried over the years to solve this mystery, it remains unsolved. I just keep going around in circles. I also do not know where or when Sarah Kirby Almy Davenport died; did Sarah and “Mr. Davenport” move off the land when it was sold? Can anyone help solve these mysteries?

John Almy (1798 - 1863) and wife Eliza (Pierce?)

Who were the parents of : John Almy (Judge and Civil Engineer) born in NY (Mass?) ca 1798; lived in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan until death on 29 Sept 1863 and is buried in the Fulton Street Cemetery? He had a wife Eliza (Pierce?) who died 30 Nov 1875; and I think their children (census kind of messed up) were Oscar F born 07 Jan 1837 in New York, died 15 Mar 1862 in Grand Rapids and a daughter Frances born about 1844 or 1846 in New York? It appears Oscar died single but am hoping Frances married and left some descendants. I cannot connect this John Almy to my own Almys out of Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New York. Some years ago after I posted a query about the children of my John Almy and wife Sarah Kirby, someone said she was sure this couple of John Almy and Eliza were connected to my John and Sarah… but I have not been able to make such a connection.

Did you ever figure out the line for Henry R Almy:
I am updating my database, this time on the descendants of my John Almy and wife Sarah (Kirby) (Almy)Davenport. I was looking for info on Henry R. Almy who is buried in Elmwood Cem. in Solon Twp., Kent, Michigan. The cemetery info says only: "broken stone, grandson"; he is in the same A section as William Almy and wife Roxanna Lusetta (Davis), so guess he is their grandson, but: whose son is he? What are the dates for him, etc? Is he the same person you you mentioned in your posting ???? (You can e-mail me directly at: obh345@mchsi.com ).

Alanson Almy: who is he?

Last night on the Steuben County web-site, I found some State census ; listed near Joseph Almy is an Almy I have no knowledge of: Alanson Almy, age 27 in 1855, living in Hartsville, Steuben, NY with a wife Lovina (Louisa?) age 19 and a child Elmer age 6/12. Who is this Alanson Almy ???

I find him again on the 1875 census - he says he was born in Seneca County- this time he has two more children: Willis and Frank.

I did not find him near the Almy(s) I was tracking on the state census for the other years as he was not a neighbor or close to either Joseph Almy who d. 1890 nor his son, James A. Almy... maybe once I find out where Alanson belongs I will go back and track him some more. Presently, my priority has been to find and track the children/some of the descendants of John Almy and wife Sarah (Kirby)

Who are these Almy men?

Over the years I have found and hung onto misc. pieces of Almy information, hoping to tie them into my own line, even collaterally, but now I am going to post a query to hopefully get some answers and use the information, or toss this stuff out - time to clean house. Who are these Almy men:
First: from LDS # 0022413: Rhode Island Monthly Meetings - Record of Testimonies of denial, of Condemnations by Individuals: Portsmouth, 30th day 10th month 1800: Samuel Almy, a member of our religous society having for some time manifested a disposition to walk in a broader way that we believe the Truth prescribes in habit deportmant & language (there is more) is disowned and he is no longer a member.

Second: Vital Records of Rhode Island, p 312 (sent to me eons ago by the Adjustant General of R.I.: Almy, John, Newport County, all. 77.45, rec. 232.55, R.I. Militia and State troops, pl. Sept 30, 1833, com. March 4, 1831, age 75

Third: Some time ago someone contacted me with information on her John Almy born abt 1798, md to Eliza unknown - resided/worked/died in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan. It was thought at first John was the son of my John Almy and Sarah Kirby, but information I have on their son John, from deeds, shows that he had two wives named Nancy and Sarah. So who is this John Almy of Michigan???? I was able to gather quite a bit of information on him from the internet and none of it linked him to any parents - he arrived in Grand Rapids 1835....
