Hi

Am looking for any relation to Josef Alperovitch (Halevi). May have come from Kiev but think was living in Borisov, Minsk 1880's and was a teacher. Born about 1850's (guess)
His sons are David (my G g Grandfather was born 15th July 1877) Moses and Yehuda known as Leib. May have daughters?
Would like to know what happened to family members?
Anyone know if Moses went to America as Morris Alperovitch?
David came to England sometime in 1890's and changed his name to A Davis and was a tailor. His daughter Rose Alperovitch went to live in New York, U.S.A in 1929 and was helped by Molly Rosebush (a friend or possibly sister to David).
:)

David,
I am Diana, not Rachel, as stated before. I am leaning towards William Alpert being the s/o Simon and Rosa, because William's daughter married a Levine, and granddaughter states that she is related to Feinberg of Dannemora. The 1900 census for that town shows Simon, Rosa, Lena Levine, dau., etc., plus states that Simon came to the USA in 1889. Wife, Rosa, came in 1890, Dau., Lena and Granddau., Fannie, etc. came in 1890. WILLIAM ALPERT CAME IN 1890 AND WAS NATURALIZED IN CLINTON COUNTY. HE IS UNDOUBTEDLY A COUSIN OF MAX AND LOUIS, SINCE HE ENDED UP IN BURLINTON, VT, AS DID MAX A ND LOUIS. It would be easy to prove with a death cert. for William Alpert, if there was someone in VT who could obtain it. I am in MI, and am interested in this because there are two inter-marriages between Steinberg and Arcofsky in Russia (sister of William Alpert's wife, Rachel Arcofsky) and because the William Alpert descendants are related to me through a daughter's marriage. Therefore, I want to identify positively William's parentage. Plus, I have contact with all William Alpert descendants, grandchildren in their 80's. If you are looking for all descendants of Jacob and Ida, then these people are your family, as well.
Diana
dianabutcher@copper.net

David,
Please send me the link to your data.
William Alpert was the father of Louis, who married a Pere/Pear. I am seeking information on these descendants; plus Arcofsky also connects to another intermarriage where the descendants ended up in Leeds, England. I am in contact with Louis Alpert's grandchildren, and his gt. grandchildren. I believe that the lineage all intertwines back in Kovno, as well.
Diana dianabutcher@copper.net

According to Lenore, dau. of now deceased Sarah (Alpert), Feinberg family are cousins of the William Alpert family. So, we definitely are working on the same families.
If you send me your email address, I can send you a link to the tre I am working on on "my heritage".

I will follow up on some research on the Arcofsky name. I will also reach out to Lori Feinberg who has been working the same research for > 20 years.....

So how do you fit in?? Max and Lena Alpert were my great-great grandparents.....

Regards,
David

William Alpert was naturalized at Plattsburgh. He was born ca. Oct 1862 probably in Kovno, and resided in Burlington, VT. He married Rachel Arcofsky, which is new information. I am firmly convinced that he was related to Max, Louis and Samuel Alpert of Burlington.

Hi,
I could have been given incorrect info. All I know is that Louis Alpert (b. ca. 1891, probably in Kovno, and definitely from Burlington, VT, before moving to Brooklyn, NY, married Rachel (changed legally to Ray) Pere aka Pear, d/o Joseph and Anna. I was told that his father was William. I have my doubts, though. The Alperts resided with Jack and Goldie Steinberg. ALPERT is listed as "cousin". I've been told that they were first cousins. I believe that Louis' mother was either a Wolfe or connects to the Steinberg, or Wolfe family of Leeds, England--some of whom removed to Brooklyn, NY. One of the Jack Steinberg kids was born in Chittendon. Tupper Lake has also been mentioned. These descendants are alive, in their 90's.
Diana

Hello
Is there a link between the name Alpert and Alperovitch?
Am tracing Alperovitch and was told that the family nearly went to America, but instead stayed in London, England.
In the East London Synagogue in 1899 Davis Alperovitch (believed to be from Kiev, Russia) married a Rachel Milchensohn (could be spelt wrong, also believed to be from Minsk, Russia). On the marriage authorisation which was translated: David son of Joseph Halevi. Brothers: Yehuda known as Leib and Moses, not present. Rachel daughter of Arye, known as Leib who is alive. I do not understand why David would be Alperovitch if father was Halevi?
They had several children of which Rose Alperovitch (name was changed to Davis) left England for New York in 1929, later to be Mrs Rose Sadowsky (not sure if spelt correct) living at West 94th Street, New York, U.S.A . She later came back to England.
Would love to hear from anyone that has any info.

Hello, I have looked over this board a lot and don't believe I am related to anyone here, but I'm hoping some of y'all can help me. My ggg grandfather was Frederick William Alpert born on 12-29-1836 in Hamburg, Germany and married to Dorothea Kuhurt. They immigrated and settled in ND in 1884 and had several sons and daughters (I don't know the name of them all but there was an Otto, Ewald, Leopold and Emilie). Otto is my gg grandfather and was born on 6-5-1868 and married Magdalena Lippert.
My problem is I have hit a complete brick wall from when my family immigrated! I'm pretty sure they changed their surname, but I don't know what it was before. I also need to know of any good German genealogy sites I can search that are in English

iknow that my maternal grandfather was from Russia and that he emigrated in the early part of the 20th century and ended up in NY with the name Alpert - Samuel Alpert. i wonder if there is any relationship here. My grandfather was supposed to go into the Russian army, but he was studying to be a cattle slaughterer (shocket[sp]) and in order to avoid being drafted, he traveled to Germany and escaped. He settled in NY, began a grocery business, married and had 3 daughters, one of whom is my mother. I was excited when i saw the name "Alperovich" because my mom had told me so many times how he came to NY and since the immigration officers couldn't pronounce his name, gave him the name of Alpert.

Hello.

I am searching for relatives.

The family "Story" is that Reuben or Reuven Petrakansky, a teen age male and one of 11 children of Abraham and Leah Petrakansky (or some like sounding name) of either Latvia or Lithuania (they called themselves Litvaks) migrated to the US in the late 1800’s to escape the Czar’s army.

He was “Adopted” by his cousin ALPERT of perhaps Portland, Maine and took (was given) that last name. Reuben Alpert settled in Boston area and married Ida Bauer (again no additional info).

I don’t know much more about him or any family, but had heard that many of his brothers and sisters had escaped the Czar and settled in the US and may have taken the names Kane, Peters and Kansky. They moved for the most part out of the Boston area and they and their descendants are long lost.

If you have any knowledge of Reuben Alpert or any possible relatves, please contact me at sdi-ne@comcast.net.

Steve Alpert
I havent been looking for them actually, but my last name is alpert and I am of Russian decent. The first Alperts came over from Minsk in 1893 and there were 19 brothers so naturally we lost track of some people over the years. Please e-mail me with some more information.
thank you , M.Alpert

my grandfather Elhanon Alperovich and his 7 brothers were born in Odessa, now Ukraine. One of the brothers emigrated to USA right before W.W.I (1914) to avoid the draft. He came here through Ellis Island. He changed his last name to Alpert. He later moved to North Carolina and had daughter Mary in 1924. The last letter came from him to our family in 1944 from North Carolina and since then we have no news about him.

Thanks
Eugene Alperovich
ejen1@yahoo.com

Seeking Relatives of Martin H. Alpert

For those who are related to the Martin H. Alpert family of Westhampton Beach, I would like to let you know I have made substantial progress in finding information about his family but need some help in finding some of his relatives.

Briefly, his father's name was Yankel (Jacob) Alperowicz (spelling of ending varies). His mother's name was possibly Taube or Tobey. He was born in Kurenets in Vilna Gubernia, which is now in Belarus.

His oldest sister, Basia, married Mordechai Ancelevicz and moved to Smorgon (also Vilna Gubernia). He had two other sisters, Fanny (Feige) and Ida (Ette). It is possible that the two younger sisters were living in Smorgon before emigrating to the U.S. Basia stayed behind and remarried when Mordechai died and eventually moved to Palestine. Mordechai and Basia Ancelevicz's descendents now lives in Hadera, Israel and also in Brazil.

When Martin (Morris/Moische) Alperowicz came to the U.S. at age 15, he went to his Uncle's home in Shenandoah, PA. His uncle's name was Simon Levine, but the original family name was most likely Lewitan. They had a large family, 9 children, but only about 7 of them were living in Shenandoah.

By 1910, most of the Simon Levine family moved to Norfolk, VA. A daughter, Kate, married Hyman (Harry) D. Kanter and had a daughter, possibly named Margaret who was born about 1920. Kate had two brothers who lived with her in the 1930's, Phillip and Harry H. Levine. I believe Phillip had a clothing store in Norfolk and Harry may have been a dentist. Other Levine sons names were Lial (Isaac L.) and Abe. Another daughter's name was Kohe.

I am searching for descendents of Kate and Harry D. Kanter as well as descendents of the Simon Levine Family.

I am also searching for other relatives of Martin H. Alpert with the last name of Fogelson, who lived possibly in East Orange, New Jersey.

Thank you for your message. The Martin Alpert you know is not related to me as far as I know. Martin H. Alpert is my grandfather who died in 1953. His original name was Moische Alperovicz. See if your attorney's family's original name was Alperovicz and whether the family originally came from Kurenets, Belarus, as my grandfather's family did.

Gene Alpert

Looking for family of Itzi and Bertha Alpert. They came to NY prior to 1907 from Dyatlovo (formerly Zhetl) in Belarus. I know they came prior to 1907 because that is the year my grandfather came here and he listed them as the people he was meeting. Bertha's maiden name was Epstein and was the sister of my grandfather Max. I believe they had 5 children.Hannah Samuelsen, Sophie Klotz,Lily Wolf,Harry Alpert and Harold Alpert. If any of one knows the Alpert family please get in touch with me.
Thank You
Martin Epstein
Louisville, KY
