Greetings Janet,

I would be interested in a coop search. I also now have a German friend at work, who's elderly father knows and assisted me with some "old script" documents that I had. Let me know if you are still interested...as I am still very interested!

All Best wishes,

Stephen Alt

Francis Jane Day

My ancestor is Francis Jane Day, born 04 October 1836 in Person County, North Carolina, and died 14 January 1860. She is buried at the “Deep Creek" John Bumpass Sr. Cemetery, located at Old Allensville Road at Ruff Davis Road. Her stone is located near the back of the periwinkle area. This is exact wording on her stone is, “Frances / wife of / Francis M BUMPASS / Born Oct 4, 1836 / Died Jan 14, 1860 / Age 23 years 3 months”. In 1850 she is found in Caswell County living with Zack and Martha Dameron and their one year old child, Mary Elizabeth. She married Francis M. Bumpass on 15 November 1855, noted on the marriage entry was a John B. Day listed as a Bondsman (unknown relationship to Francis Jane Day or to Francis M. Bumpass). Francis M. Bumpass was born in 1830 in Person County and died in 1862 also in Person County (exact dates of death and burial unknown). From this union they had one child, John Francis Bumpass, born 1857 in Person County and died on 04 September 1914 in Durham County. The 1860 Census has Francis M. Bumpass and his son John living with his mother Nancy Roundtree (Day) Bumpass in Allensville, Person County. I am searching for Francis Jane Day’s parents and her relationship to her husband’s mother Nancy “Roundtree” Day. Was Nancy Native American? Any help will do. Thank you in advance.

Edgar Miller Alt was born in Wisconsin in 1851, probably moved to Illinois and died in Oregon. I don't know if he had any sons. One of his daughters married a White who was connected to my Stiles family. We have a picture of her children.

I don't have any information on his family, but can go to the Federal Records building which has census records to look at his relatives.

Do you need information on Harley? There are several Harley Alts. Do you have a birthdate, location, or some way to distinguish which is your grandfather? Perhaps I can trace him back to see if the lines join.

Helpful census records are available for 1930 back to 1850, but many of the records are unreadable or misspelled. I'll send you what I find if you are interested.

My husband's work partner did a search and found that same
woman but I can't get a reply from her and there's no phone.
Can't be sure she's the right one. I thought it was very odd that she lived in the same town as another Cleo Alt who died in Petersburg WV in 2003 (I think) but was born in 1911. Thanks for the info.

I have written to her but have received no reply.
Do you know of any other Cleo Alt in your family that was born about 1940?

Found in Cuyahoga County, Ohio probate records the marriage of Vera ALT or ALLT (both on record) to Andrew KOVACS. I have very little information on Vera. She was listed as Veronica in the obiturary for Andrew. She proceeded him in death, sometime in the 1940s. He was born 1898 in Hungary and died 1971 in Clevleand.

Does anyone have a Vera or Veronica ALT in their family? The ethnicity of my family (so far) is Hungarian. Any help is appreciated. Thanks :-)

Mary

Dear Priscilla,

I finally found her! Verona ALT arrived Ellis Island Jan. 20, 1922. She came from Roumania, spoke Hungarian, and went to her sponsor, brother in law, John Merk, 9805 Cumberland Ave., Cleveland, Ohio. Her marriage to Andry Kovacs, Aug. 13, 1924 shows her mother's surname as Donant. Found them on the 1930 census under name Kovach in Cleveland.
Thanks for all your help.

Regards, Mary
