I'd like to try and find out some info on the Altazin family. My father is Carl Altazin Jr. and of course his father was Carl Altazin Sr. I know they have ties to Plaquemine/Brusly area, but that's about as much as I know...

My mother is Thelma. She said there is 1 album that may have a picture of uncle Benny but she doesn't think it is in there. Many pictures have been taken out/lost through the years. We will check and see. It is so interesting how both Uncle Benny and Aunt Clara had each been married before.

Thank you for answering me. My husband said he remembers Aunt Maggie. He wonders if you have a picture of his grandfather Benjamin Harelson. We have one of Clara. They had 8 children and all are dead now.

Yes. We would be cousins. If I remember correctly Aunt Clara had a lot of children! Can't remember everyone's names at the moment. My grandparents had 2 daughters. Then the other sister,my great Aunt Maggie (Altazin King)and her husband, Uncle Boss didn't have any children. My grandmother's (who was Gertrude Altazin Lobdell) mother died during birth with my grandmother.

Hi Eric:

The first record of an Altazin coming to America was Jean Baptiste Altazin, born about 1790 in Bayonne, France, the son of Jean Baptiste Altazin,. Sr and Francoise Porche. I think his reason for coming to America was some of his mother's family, the Porches were already in America. Jean Baptiste, Jr came here about 1810. He met and married Anne Genevieve Scholastique Arbour and they were married in April, 1812 in St, Joseph Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana..

I've never been able to verify any information on his parents or siblings if any. To the best of my knowledge, his parents never came to America.

If you have any information on this family, I would appreciate your emailing me.

Hoping to hear from you soon, I remain,

Sincerely,

Milton D. Altazan
2101 Allene Street
Brusly, Louisiana 70719-2060
