Trying to figure out the connection between the Altemus' of mid 1800's Philadelphia and the TIEL & Coffin families of the same era. Several Altemus' seemed to be named Lemuel Coffin Altemus, and then there is a businessman named Lemuel Coffin, who joined up with the Altemus family ( Dry goods?) and then a Lemuel Coffin TIEL ends up in there as well.
The lengthy 1895 news article about Lemuel COffin's will probate, mentions some of my relatives, in a separate paragraph/listing than his employees ( that inherited in the will) . Lemuel Coffin seemed to be very generous, as many people who inherited from his death were employees.
I have not been able to connect the Coffin family with the Altemus yet... I guess someone married into the other family.
