Mary "Marguerite" Altemus, 91,
of McKeesport,
passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at UPMC McKeesport. She was born June 27, 1920, in Petersburg, Va.,
to the late John C. and Filomena Warner Chapman.
She grew up in Hopewell, Va. She was the widow of Clyde G. Altemus, whom she met at a church dance in Hopewell, Va., near where he was stationed in the Civilian Conservation Corps. She was a very active member of the Christy Park United Methodist Church for more than 60 years, was a former youth fellowship adviser for 15 years, a past church treasurer, a long time member and past president of the McKeesport Hospital Junior Committee, a member of the McKeesport Wimodausis, Ladies Syria Caravan 4 and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years, where she was a past matron and past district grand matron. She was currently a member of the Clairton chapter 316 OES. She is survived by her daughters, Doris Altemus Stoll, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Mary M. Little, of Bethel Park; two sisters, Evelyn Seid, of Surrey, Va., and Christine DeAlba, of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandson, David C. (Sandra) Stoll, of Galway, N.Y.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephew and great-great-nieces and -nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Clyde, she was preceded in death by her two sons-in-law, George H. Stoll and Robert C. Little; as well as four sisters and numerous sisters- and brothers-in-law. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the I.M. FINNEY FUNERAL HOME INC., 203 Fourth St., Dravosburg. A funeral service will be held at noon Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. D. Ronald Libengood officiating. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Park in Pleasant Hills. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Christy Park United Methodist Church, 436 29th St., McKeesport, PA 15132.
