Adam Altemus died at 11 o'clock Saturday night at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William T. Duncan, of Morrellville, aged 80 years. His death was caused by general debility. He was born in Brushvalley township, and was married there in 1852 to Miss Catherine Conrad. For many years they made their home in Dilltown, where Mrs. Altemus died in 1898. Later Adam Altemus moved to Johnstown to make his home with his daughter. He was a veteran of the Civil War, having served in Company C, Two Hundred and Sixth regiment, Pennsylvania volunteers.
The deceased is survived by three brothers, two sisters, two sons, and two daughters. His sons are Samuel C., of Morrellville, and Albert, who lives on the old homestead, and the daughters are Mrs. Duncan, referred to above, and Mrs. Clark Tomb, also of Morrellville.
The funeral took place Monday afternoon from The Duncan home, where services were conducted by the Rev. Everett G. Morris, pastor of the F-street M.E. Church. The remains were brought to Armagh, for interment. Adam Altemus was a member of the Baptist Church of Dilltown for many years.
