Mrs. Frances Altenbach, 828 Lincoln avenue, wife of Alex Altenbach, passed away at her home suddenly Sunday evening at 6:30 o'clock.
She was born in Bavaria, Germany, November 20, 1871, the daughter of Joseph and Monica Peter. Fifty years ago she came to America, and lived in Chicago for several years before coming to Sheboygan to make her home.
On Aug. 25, 1909, she was married to Alex Altenbach at Holy Name church. The Rev. Dominic Thiel performed the ceremony.
Survivors are her husband, and the following children: Mrs. Edgar (Rose) Harff, this city; the Rev. Conrad A. Altenbach, Mukwonago, Wis.; Mrs. John (Hattie) Conrardy, of Milwaukee; Mrs. Andrew (Sophie) Dachauer, of San Francisco, Cal.; Mrs. Ben (Thecia) Schmidt, of Milwaukee; and the Misses Elizabeth and Alexia, at home.
One son, Felix, and a daughter, Monica, preceded her in death. She is further survived by a brother, Joseph, of Stratford, Wis., and a sister, Mrs. Theresa Lax, of Switzerland, and 19 grandchildren.
A good, heroic, kind and loving mother, she was much attached to her husband, home and family. She was a faithful member of Holy Name church, and of St. Ann's Altar and Mother society of that church.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 9:30 at the Robert H. Kroos funeral home and at 10 o'clock at Holy Name church. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Philipp Diels will officiate. Celebrant will be Father Conrad Altenbach, and Fathers Henry Maurer of Lyons, Wis., and John Stehl of Neosho, Wis., will be deacon and sub-deacon for the solemn requiem high mass. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the Robert II. Kroos funeral home from Tuesday noon until the time of services. St. Ann's Altar and Mother society of Holy Name church will hold a vigil for Mrs. Altenbach at the funeral home Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. All members are asked to attend.
