I've been researching my husband's family. I requested the social security record for his maternal grandfather, John Pisano which shows his mother's name as Filomena Altier. John was born in Potenza province in Italy in 1884 and settled in Utica New York, which is near Rome. I don't know if his parents ever came to the U.S.

My Grandmother Rosantonia married Rocco Garramone, both from the Basilicata Region of southern Italy and went to America in 1898.

I know for a fact that she had two brothers Giovanni and Luigi, and two sisters Carmela and Maria (Mary) Giuseppina. Mary married a man by the name of Francesco Rizzo and for sure, had two sons, Domenico and Lorenzo.

My Grandparents had a total of 16 children, 11 surviving to adulthood. My father Stephen Garramone is the baby and is 82 years old. Including my father, there are five surviving siblings.

I was raised in Utica, NY and the entire family is still in that vacinity. I will be visiting there throughout the entire month of August 2002.

Please write and tell me where you all are and why everyone lost contact with each other? I have been researching for over a year and had no idea what ever happened to my Grandmothers brothers and sisters, my father's Aunts and Uncles.

Please write to me at Naplesmomma@yahoo.com

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Lina

Hi, my mom's maiden name is Altier. My Great-Grandfather's name was Vito Altieri. He dropped the "i" after he arrived in the U.S. He married Edith Marie Fazi. We live in Ohio. Most of the family use Altier, but a few in northern Ohio still use Altieri. I believe my G-Grandpa lived in Pago, Italy. I would be interested in hearing from anyone. Please e-mail me at mattydess@hotmail.com. Matt D.

Hello,

I'm looking for an Altier branch in Spain. My g-grandmother was Luisa Altier, who died in the 70's, and her mother was born in Gibraltar.
I know this surname is very rare in Spain, and I think that the origin must be French or English.
Thank you!

Altier in Utica NY

Yes! Utica and Rome are virtually the same place, and I do believe that Utica is where they may have settled. Unsure if they had used the name Altier or Altieri. Im also not sure if there are any generation Gaps between Giovanni Altieri, and Joseph John Altier Sr. of Utica NY. Sounds like there is a very good possibility of lineage between my family member, and the female spouse you mentioned in your reply. I would love any additional information you might have! Please email me anytime !! Debsrainbowbrite@aol.com Thanks bunches!!

Hi everyone! I just found this message board. My grandfathers name was Joseph John Altier JR. and he was from Rome, NY. His Father was named the same (Sr.), and I have 1 photograph which I believe was the 1st Altier in my family that we can trace to Italy. His Name was Giovanni Altier. Orinional spelling was Altieri but Ive been told he dropped that last "i". I would love to talk with anyone who might be interested in the family tree. My Grandpa passed away in 1998, and I'm therefore lacking alot of history that I would love to learn about. Hope to hear from you all soon!
