I have not checked this site for sometime so not sure if you were still interested.
My husband is an Altizer and we went to the cemetery about 10 years ago. It is next to a living Altizer property and was well maintained. I did take some pictures. If you are still interested let me know and I will look thru my records.

Jessee Altizer b. 1835 Virginia Son of John H. Altizer was FIRST to be called in 1917 Draft -- Newspaper

I'm not an Altizer but when I came across this information while researching my own family I just had to pass it on to the proper families... here's the link and an excerpt from the newspaper.

http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/tazewell/newspapers/cvn0727...

Tazewell County, Virginia, Newspaper Articles: Clinch Valley News--July 27, 1917

July 27, 1917

FIRST MAN CALL RECEIVED GREAT HONOR

The first number of the Selective Draft, was 258, the Tazewell man bearing
this serial number being Mr. Jessee ALTIZER of Harman, Va. He is a son of
John H. ALTIZER, a married man and farmer. He will bear with him through
life the distinction of being first on the list of the 221 men of this
county to make up the draft of half a million men, drawn by the
government. It is not known how Mr. ALTIZER regards this distinction, but
he should feel proud of it.
My father has much information on Altizers in West Virginia. His father was Amos Altizer. My father has information going back to the original Altizer or Althauser that came over in the late 17th century. I was told this original immigrant was even at the battle of Cornwallis with George Washinton. Also were a bunch of Altizers in the Confederate Cavalry from what I've been told.

Elizabeth Altizer, (1805-1851), daughter of Elias J Altizer

I'm trying to find information on the first wife of Elias J. Altizer and some "confirmation" that Elizabeth Altizer (1805-1851) was the daughter of Elias and his first wife.

I've found Elias Altizer in the 1820, 1830, and 1840 census records for Lynn Twp, Posey County, Indiana. And I found the marriage record for Elias Altizer and Thursey Taylor on 27 Feb 1815 in Posey County, Indiana.

And I've found other trees that indicate that Elizabeth Altizer, b: 6 Mar 1805 in Tennessee, was the daughter of Elias Altizer, b: Mar 1776 in Little River, Montgomery County, VA. But the Altizer oriented family trees only show a Susannah as the daughter of Elias J Altizer and a first, unknown wife. [For example, from http://altizer.net/, click on "Altizer family genealogy files", then "GEDCOM FILES", and then navigate to Altizer, Elias J]

Elizabeth Altizer married Reddick Cartwright in White County, Illinois, on 5 Aug 1826. [And White County Illinois is directly adjacent to Posey County Indiana.] She and Reddick can be found in the 1850 census in Salisbury Twp, Coles County, Illinois.

So Elizabeth Altizer was in the Posey Indiana / White Illinois area in the right time for her to have been the daughter of Alias Altizer. But her mother could not have been Thursey Taylor as Thursey Taylor married Elias Alitzer on 27 Feb 1815 in Posey Indiana, 10 years after the birth of Elizabeth and Thursey Taylor was born in 1798.

Annie, I am related to Sallie Altizer through her gggrandfather, David Riley Altizer, however, several Christians have married into the family. If you want more info, go to www.altizer.net. As for the V. in Thomas' name, I would suspect it might be Vandike after his mother's family, and I don't know who keeps up with who on the Christian side in Tazewell. Looking at Christian message boards may help you. TJK

Harry Mitchell son of Hattie Altizer

I am trying to find when Harry Mitchell born about 1915 in McDowell Co., WV. died. I know he was alive in 1920 and died prior to 1930 census. Here are the census I have found:

1920 Brown Creek District, Welch City, McDowell Co., West Virginia
McDowell County Jail, Wyoming Street
Walter C. Mitchell 37 b. WV County Jailor; Hattie 36 b. WV, and Harry 5 b. WV

1930 District 23, Welch Twnp., McDowell Co., West Virginia
123 Hubert (seems they moved from the jail)
Walter Mitchell 45 m.@23 b. WV County Jailor
Hattie 42 m.@20 b. VA
Robert 11 b. WV

I am also looking for the birth parents of the boy Robert they adopted and I would like to know when he came to live with this family. I know his mother's name was Hannah, but am not sure who she was married to at the time of his birth. I do know Robert was adopted after Harry died. I was told that Harry was buried in a cemetery some where near the Altizer family estate in Brandy, VA. If you have any information please e-mail me at snkashley@fairfieldtx.com Thanks for any help you can give me.

Kathryn
