James/Hazel Altman

I'm trying to find information on James or Hazel Altman who lived in Florida 1949/1950 time. James was in the Navy at the time. Hazel worked in a drugstore, or dinette. They had a son a few years later. Hazel was a foster child before marriage. They would have been 18 and 19 years of age in 1950/51. Sorry this information is so sketchy. Any help would be enormously appreciated. Thank you.

Hi All

We have 3 matches in 3 different Altman groups from GA!! Group A, Group C, & Group D. 1 per group. We need more DNA test and markers to see if can see the subgroups. FTDNA is having a sale until Sept 30. The more markers the easier to see the subgroups. In other words I may see which group my Thomas came from and how we all fit together.
Y-DNA37 Reduced $189 $119
Y-DNA67 Reduced $269 $218

Go here to order your test.
https://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspx?code=R61257&...

Go here to see MR Aultman Group C 67 markers. These would most likely have been common within Viking populations. One lineage of this group extends down into central Europe”

It would be Great!! to get at least 2 from each group.
Group NC… Wayne Co NC
Group 1a...Georgetown/Williamsburg/Marion/Horry/etc
Group 1b...Georgetown/Williamsburg/Marion/Horry/etc
Group 2.….Orangeburg/Lexington Co., SC
Group 3.…Colleton SC
Group 4.….Beaufort / Hampton SC
Group A….Montgomery & Ware Co., GA [ 1 24 marker ]
Group B….Montgomery & Wayne Co., GA
Group C….1810 Telfair Co GA 1816 Covington Co MS [ 1 67 marker ]
Group D….Houston / Crawford / Dooley GA [ 1 43 marker ]
Group PA
Group Etc [Would love to see some from known areas of Germany]

Diane Aultman Lafferty
Adam Altman's son, Nicholas Hancock Co.

I have found a Nicholas Altman in the 1850 Putnam Co. census, Riley Twp. Right next door to Hancock Co. In fact, he is probably buried in Clymer Cemetery in Hancock Co. (1852 death date, according to Findlay Hancock Co. Library Obit database). He bought land through the Ohio Land buy and signed the document in 1837, and the paper says he came from Richland County. Has anyone else found this Nicholas? Following is his listing from the 1850 census:

Name: Nicholus Atman
Residence: Putnam, Ohio
Age: 45 years
Estimated birth year: 1805
Birth place: Pennsylvania
Gender: Male
Race or color (on document):
Race (Term on Certificate):
Death month:
Death date:
Film number: 444716
Image number: 00708
Reference number: 9
Dwelling: 94
Household id: 95
Marital status:
Free or slave:
Collection: 1850 United States Census

Name: Polly Altman
Residence: Putnam, Ohio
Age: 35 years
Estimated birth year: 1815
Birth place: Pennsylvania
Gender: Female
Race or color (on document):
Race (Term on Certificate):
Death month:
Death date:
Film number: 444716
Image number: 00708
Reference number: 10
Dwelling: 94
Household id: 95
Marital status:
Free or slave:
Collection: 1850 United States Census

Name: Jacob Altman
Residence: Putnam, Ohio
Age: 21 years
Estimated birth year: 1829
Birth place: Pennsylvania
Gender: Male
Race or color (on document):
Race (Term on Certificate):
Death month:
Death date:
Film number: 444716
Image number: 00708
Reference number: 11
Dwelling: 94
Household id: 95
Marital status:
Free or slave:
Collection: 1850 United States Census

Name: William Altman
Residence: Putnam, Ohio
Age: 15 years
Estimated birth year: 1835
Birth place: Ohio
Gender: Male
Race or color (on document):
Race (Term on Certificate):
Death month:
Death date:
Film number: 444716
Image number: 00708
Reference number: 12
Dwelling: 94
Household id: 95
Marital status:
Free or slave:
Collection: 1850 United States Census

Name: Sarah Jane Altman
Residence: Putnam, Ohio
Age: 10 years
Estimated birth year: 1840
Birth place: Ohio
Gender: Female
Race or color (on document):
Race (Term on Certificate):
Death month:
Death date:
Film number: 444716
Image number: 00708
Reference number: 13
Dwelling: 94
Household id: 95
Marital status:
Free or slave:
Collection: 1850 United States Census

Name: Samuel Altman
Residence: Putnam, Ohio
Age: 6 years
Estimated birth year: 1844
Birth place: Ohio
Gender: Male
Race or color (on document):
Race (Term on Certificate):
Death month:
Death date:
Film number: 444716
Image number: 00708
Reference number: 14
Dwelling: 94
Household id: 95
Marital status:
Free or slave:
Collection: 1850 United States Census

Name: Daniel Altman
Residence: Putnam, Ohio
Age: 4 years
Estimated birth year: 1846
Birth place: Ohio
Gender: Male
Race or color (on document):
Race (Term on Certificate):
Death month:
Death date:
Film number: 444716
Image number: 00708
Reference number: 15
Dwelling: 94
Household id: 95
Marital status:
Free or slave:
Collection: 1850 United States Census

Is this the Nicholas Altman who was supposed to have married Mary C. LASKER, and
Joseph ALTMAN of Pine Bluff, Ark., chose that hour for the
beginning of their married life and incidentally they formulated
a set of New Year's resolutions which are designed to make
their life a perpetual joy.

The agreement of the young couple never may be set aside
by either on the ground of failure of consideration, as the New
Year's obligations they assumed in addition to the marriage
contract are based on mutual promises.

The bride resolves:
I will never nag my husband.
I shall try to make myself useful to him in every way.
I shall never meddle in his business affairs.

The husband resolves:
I shall not talk to my wife when I am angry.
She shall have her own bank account.
She shall run the house; I my business.
I shall not concern myself with her political beliefs.

======================================================
(I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate
knowing if you found this posting helpful.)
johnobrien@kc.rr.com
======================================================

neirbo8

Altman Brothers from Ukraine in Detroit MI

Hello all!

Looking for relatives of Samuel and Rebecca, Harry Louis and Anna and/or Alexander and Jennie. These were originally from Bershad, Ukraine. Samuel and Louis arrived separately both in 1913 and apparently Alexander and Jennie followed in 1922. Rebecca arrived in 1927. My guess is that Harry Louis married Anna in USA.

Samuel remarried after Rebecca's passing (1941). Her daugther Rose married John T. Farnsworth in 1931, one brother dissapeared during WWI (Aaron) and the other sisters (Dora, Katya and Sonya) during Shoa.

Harry Louis had at least five children: Martin Doris and Albert and two other believed still living.

Alexander had at least three children: Rose Tillie and Celia.

I do this research on behalf of my mother-in-law, Alice Farnsworth, born to John Farnsworth and Rose Altman.

Any additional info will be welcomed!

Sylvie Lord

Trying to trace the ancestry of my gr grandfather, George Altman. He was born 1826 in OH. Died 1900 in Wexford County, MI. Married, first, to Barbara Shoup who died in OH 1858. Then married Sarah Ward (born 1842 in OH) in June 1861. Sarah was daughter of Eli and Aurillia Ward. Sarah had 4 sisters (Carrie, Mary, Hannah and Aurilla). I'm only aware of 2 siblings for George. Andrew, born abt. 1842, and John, born 1818. Can anyone fill in some blanks on George's parents or other ancestors?

The Altman/Aultman DNA Project is up and running with one entry. Need you to get your kit ordered and entered. I am excited that Terry Barton set it up for us. To order your kit go to this site. Terry suggests the 25 or 37 marker kit. If you got the 12 marker you may have to up-grade later. He said it takes about 6-8 weeks for the results. This is a mouth scraping of an Altman/Aultman male.

http://www.familytreedna.com/DNAList.asp?Group=Altman

Go to this site and click on results to see the one entry.
The Pennsylvania ALTMAN Family

To anyone interested in the Pennslyvania Altman families, you will find a primitive outline of the Descendants of Hans Wilhelm Altman on my primitive homepage. It can be found at "www.familytreemaker.com/users/r/e/a/William-Henry-Ream-jr".

Unfortunantly, I have not been too attentive in entering my sources--I hope to correct this when time allows. Most of the info. on the Altman descendants (except for the Ream branch) comes from "The Pioneering Altmans" by James Sherlock of Columbus, Oh. I have also used the work of many online Altman genealogists.

The Ream branch of the Altman Family Tree comes from many sources. If I had been able to print a genealogical outline, many of those would have been revealed in the notes. Suffice it to say that the late Verda Ream Pifer, the late Chester Sterling, Donald Leon Ream (formerly of Las Vegas, Nv.) and Freeman Stittsworth supplied the basis for this branch. I have built upon it using both the internet other sources.

I would appreciate it if you would send me any information you may have on this lineage. I will return the favor.

Altman/Baxley Williamsburg, SC

There was a man named John Baxley (b. NC 1795) who married a woman named Charlott(e) (b. NC abt. 1804) about 1826 in NC and subsequently moved to Williamsburg, SC. John died about 1835, and Charlott(e) remarried a widower named James Altman of Williamsburg. James Altman died about 1848, leaving Charlott(e) with several Baxley and Altman children. I am trying to trace the ancestry of John & Charlott(e) Baxley. Does anyone have any info on these folks?
-Ed Hudson
ehudsoniii@aol.com

ANDREW ALTMAN'S WILL COLUMBIANA COUNTY, OH

I recently received the Will for Andrew Altman b. 1764. Andrew (Andreas) was the son of John Peter, b. 1735 and Christina Eisenman. The will was divided up into three parts. The first part directs his executor to pay all late sickness and funeral expenses. The second part of the Will states: "Intending and expecting and to marry the widow Mary Low "(Low was hard to read and it could be wrong). The rest of this section directs what Mary would get after his death. The third part of the Will divides his property up between his son Louis and his daughter Sally or Sarah married to Christian Seidner. Andrew appoints his son-in-law Christian Seidner the executor of his Will. The Will is dated Jan 25, 1842, Salem Township, Columbiana County, OH. Andrew's signature is at the bottom of the Will. There is no mention of Andrew's son Andrew in the Will. If any of Andrews descendants would like a copy of the Will I would be glad to send a copy.
Walt
I am searching for family information on my great grandfather, George W. Altman, born around 1858, probably in the northeast US. His given name was Johan Wilhelm Rudolph Aultmann (spelling uncertain) and his father was Friederich Aultmann (spelling uncertain), born in Germany around 1824. He lived in Illinois for a time around 1904 and moved to the Grangeville, Idaho area around 1910, where he died in 1944.
