Who was Matthew Alton?

My husband's great grandfather was Matthew Alton (b. 1829 d. 1914)married to Eliza Mary Downing in Lee County, Iowa; moved to Parsons(St. Paul), Kansas. He emigrated through New Orleans with his mother and a few brothers. Who were these brothers from Ireland? The story is that his mother and several brothers settled near Keokuk, Iowas and he living with his mother until her death. We don't know the mother's name or the brothers' names. Then the story continues that Matthew, Eliza, Lucy 1yr old, went down by steamboat to Osage Mission, Kansas.

Mrs. Alton of Raber, Michigan in 1891

July 4, 1891 Page 1
Married Man and Married Woman Skip

Edward Johnson , a clerk in the Feltus store, eloped the other day with Mrs. Odeta Alton, the wife of an honest, hardworking man, Johnson left a wife and three or four children almost destitute. Mrs. Alton had no children. The affair has been the talk of the country round about Raber. Johnson was well known in the Soo and his bad behaviour surprises some.

I am not related to this family, just passing on this information which comes from a webpage called "Marriage Notices, Jan. 1891 - Dec. 1893." The link for the site is listed below.
Joyce

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Ewjmartin/marr9193...

Altons from the Glasgow area

My grandfather was John Alton, born in Glasgow in 1902 to John Alton and Jean McMichael or Carmichael. He had 6 brothers and sisters, but unfortunately the family was split up(not sure why). I know that Jean remarried William Birkett and had a daughter named Martha. Does anyone have information on this side of the Alton family? I know the information is sketchy and I don't even know all the siblings names except for Agnes, Janet and Peter. Peter went to Canada. I thnk there may have been a James somewhere. I believe that my great grandfather was from the Carnwath area in Lanarkshire.

Harry H Alton, b. 1908, d.Jan 1984, Wilton, Sacramento, California

My great aunt, Sessie(June) Boyer married a Harry Alton. They lived in Wilton, Sacramento, California. I found a Harry Alton, born Iowa, enumerated with his father I. W. Alton and his mother Nellie in Mahaska County, Iowa, in 1910. Also he is in the 1920 Census with his parents Irwin W.and Nellie Alton in Minidoka, Minidoka, Idaho. I found a marriage record for Harry H. and Verda Wade, Bannock County, Idaho - they married 10 Sep 1927. On the "Donavan Eastman" Rootsweb family Submission Record I note that he has Harry Hamilton Alton married to Allie Uvah Morgan in 1940 in Twin Falls, Idaho. Donavan's material indicates that there is a living child for Harry and Uvah. June Boyer could have been married to a Mr. Haken. She had one daughter Virginia (surname unknown) who also died in Sacramento, California. Her married name was Virginia Paulitz. I would love to tie up the loose ends of this family - please help me if you can. I am willing to share whatever will I can. Thank you.

Douglas Cambell ALTON was a veteran of WWII - he served in the Naval Intelligence overseas. He didn't like to talk about his experience over in Turkey and Greece or France. His brother, William Carol Wilson ALTON, Jr., was a Captain in the Air Force. Their father, William Carol Wilson Alton, Sr., was in WWI. We salute all of the ALTONS that served in our armed forces and the valiant efforts they gave to their country.

Ruttle Connection

Agnes Alton 's husband, Daniel Alton died in Ireland in 1847. She emmigrated to Canada (Lucknow, Ontario area) in 1847 with 7 or 9 children.
Does anyone know where she fits into the Ruttle (Ruckle ) family tree ?It is probable that she came from Ballingraine, Limerick County, Ireland. She would probably have been a descendant of Caspar Roeckle, who was one of the Palintine refugees who settled on Lord Southwells estate in 1709.However there seems to be no mention of her parents anywhere.
My interest is double. I married Roy Alton's (one of Agnes' descendants)widow and Caspar Roeckle (Ruttle) was one of MY Palantine ancestors.
Harry Dulmage

Wilson in Evanston. Milton H. Wilson and his brother E.C. Wilson owned "Wilson Brothers" in Chicago. Milton H. Wilson was a trustee of Northwestern University from 1897-1929.
