Per Marion Co vital recrods, Francis was born September 30, 1858, Per Francis and Ida's marriage certificate, she was born agt 1873 in Larue Co, KY. Please contact me at bobcatbob @ aol.com for more information, would like to hear from you and share information.
This couple died in 1897. He was 39 and she was 24. Their boys Thomas Boone Alvey and Joseph Francis lived with various of the mother's relatives, including my g-grandmother and grandmother. Did they die in an accident?
No one in my family seems to know. Ida Mae Alvey was my grandmother's older half-sister.

I found the military recrods and the 1910 thru 1930 census records. I gather you do not have his death certificate to know if it lists his parents or not? I found his cemetery record online which shows his death as Dec 15, 1962, are the one that posted that information? I have Perry Co, IN birth records, lots of Alvey's but only from 1883 thru 1920. It's possible George's parents were deceased and he states he was a farmer when he did his first enlistment from Louisville. But then Tell City vicinity which is where most of the Alvey's lived in Perry Co, IN was just a few miles from Louisville. I had thought that George was the son of Henry and Melvina Alvey (both Alvey's), Melvina died a few months after George was born but Henry remarried and I found him in 1900 but no George. Contact me at my e-mail bobcatbob @aol.com.

Yes, I too have not been able to find him in the 1900 census record. I've looked through many of the posts about the Thomas Green Alvey branch, but nothing seems to click. He enlisted in the Army, Oct. 24, 1903 in Louisville, KY; He was discharged Oct 23, 1906 in Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Re-enlisted Nov 4, 1906 Jefferson, Mo.
Discharged Nov 3, 1909, Fort Howard, Maryland.
These are not complete military records, but a summary that shows where he was born, etc. No other personal details.
It seems like he left Indiana, joined the army and never returned. I wonder if his parents were deceased - maybe he was an orphan.
If you run across anything in your searches, please keep me in the loop.
Thanks for your response.
Kay

Kay,

If your George Henry Alvey was born in Perry Co, IN, it is a sure bet he descends from the Thomas Green Alvey branch of the Alvey family. Thomas Green migrated from St Mary's co, MD after the Revolutionary War and first settled in KY before moving across the Ohio river to Perry Co, IN in the early 1800's. But to tell you exactly which Alvey family are his parents will be tough without finding him at home on a census recrod. While they were mostly Catholics, I have not found a baptizmal recrod form him so far. Since he was born about 1881, he missed being listed in 1880, the 1890 was destroyed and I have not found him at age 19 on any 1900 census or in 1910. I have found him in 1920 and 1930. Did you find his military record on line for do you have a copy of it? The names George, Henry and Aaron are very common in this branch of the Alvey's.
Vicky,

Attachments to Rootsweb posts are not allowed so mostly, the picture was deleted before it was put on the list. You sent me those pictures from the History of Eastland County which I enjoyed seeing. I am the same Bob Alvey, this Rootsweb site just uses Bobcat which is from my AOL address Bobcatbob @ aol.com

I just noticed a change, there is an option to attach a file to the post, that looks new to me.

Yes, I found him listed in the family tree. I just wish I had a picture. The article indicates a picture at the bottom but I didn't see it.
It supplies an address so I will write and request a copy with the picture.
I have pictures of a man and lady together in the yard and it looks like it could be from that area.
You would not believe how one picture lead me on this journey.
My son found the exact picture in a reference book in our library. "History of Eastland County" and this book opened the door to more history. The picture is of Abraham Alvey and his second wife who both are buried in what we have always known as a "family cemetery" in Cisco, Texas.
I am still searching.
I must give credit to Bob Alvey and his family tree website that has brought me so much peace in just knowing my mother's side of the family.
Vicky,
James Perrie Alvey, Sr (first time I have seen him listed as Peregrine)is the son of George Nicholas Alvey. Most of that Alvey line remained in Maryland. His brother Richard Henry Alvey was a high level Judge in Maryland and noted as one of the Maryland Men of Mark, although he almost ended up in prison for his southern leanings during the Civil War.

Vivky, your line of Alvey's goes back to the same Arthur Alvey, second son of Joseph Alvey who immigrated to Maryland from England, but your line left Maryland for Kentucky abt 1805. Both James Perrie, Sr and James Quinn Alvey ended up in Texas before the Civil War.

The English Alveys date back to the early 1700's. Mostly Maryland. Our Alvey or Avey family names were created by US Customs when the ship from Hamburg arrived with my greagrandfather's family in 1885. We are totally German

I have a family history on James Alvey, Sr. born 12 October 1849 in Mayfield, Nottingham, England died 9 March 1931 in Escalante, Utah. Also his son George Alvey born 24 March 1884 in Arnold, Nottingham, England died 25 November 1957 in Panguitch, Utah. Does this help you at all? I would love to exchange information.
Hello. My mother passed away in April and was buried in the Mitchell Cemetary outside of Cisco, Texas in Eastland County. Her grandmother was an Alvey and her mother was Viola Maxwell. I know nothing about this side of the family at all. This is sad.
I have a picture of my mother's mother and grandmother. This would be Viola Maxwell, but all mama said about her grandmother was her last name was Alvey. I maybe spelling it wrong.
This cemetary is for "families" only.
You maybe surprised as to who all is buried there.
Please let me know if we are kin or not. I want to learn so much about her side of the family. Mother has one sister (out of 11 siblings) still living.
Good luck with your search and God bless

Deb, I realize that your post is old, however, Thomas Green Alvey, Jr., is buried in Tobinsport, Indiana. That is if the one for whom you are looking was born in 1745, fought in the Revolutionary War, and died in Indiana in 1924.
